Description

As cats age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your cats because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your cat's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health.

  • Hill's prescription G/D canned catfood for hypertension

    By on

My cat was diagnosed with very high blood pressure, causing sudden onset blindness. My veterinarian prescribed medicine for her hypertension, along with a prescription heart care diet. G/D was the only one he could find. I purchased both the canned and dry. My cat tried it once, but I don't believe it agreed with her, and she hasn't eaten anymore. She's eating her regular BB catfood and not getting any salty treats. Perhaps other cats would enjoy the G/D diet, but I can't recommend it based on my cat's preference.

  • Hills G/D Diet

    By on

My cat has to eat this food due to kidney failure. She has lost 75 percent of her kidney function. It does appear to be easier on her body, but she really misses the taste of regular cat food. I wish it had more flavor for her.

  • Several of my cats loved this....

    By on

I have 6 cats, several old and several younger. You're the only place I've found that carries G/D. I got a case, and (typical of cats), some of them love it and some don't. But it's a good food, and I certainly would buy it again.

  • The first snub, ever.

    By on

Two kitties (fed Friskies before adopting) have now been on a diet of high-end & prescription food, incl. a min. of 10 brands/15 flavors in rotation, and this is the first flavor to be snubbed. They wouldn't even try it just a little bit!

  • Our cats love it!

We were a bit afraid that the transition to Hills g/d would be an awful g/d experience. They loved it from the start! Great!

My cat likes the Turkey flavor of the GD prescription hills canned and dry food, since started she so far hasn't vomited once and the food has less fat content.

My cat Jack's kidneys became more sensitive as he got older. This is a great option for him - plus he loves it!

  • Great Product

My aging kitty Missey loved this food but after a dozen cans will not touch it. She has kidney issues at the age of 15 and will probably be on this the rest of her life. I have called my vet to see if there is something else I can give her as I don't want to give her regular food like my other 4 cats. She also has other health issues. Love Chewy's customer service and products You Guys Rock! Have been a customer now for over a year.

  • Necessity for my cat

    By on

My 15 year old Ocicat was born developing kidney stones. Major surgery every three months the first 18 monthes of her life to remove the stones and alopurinol for years to keep stones from developing. Hills recommended GD and she has been stone free for 8 years. Hills saved Amelia's life and now I am having trouble getting GD as it is backordered from Hills.
