As cats age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your cats because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your cat's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our cats love it! We were a bit afraid that the transition to Hills g/d would be an awful g/d experience. They loved it from the start! Great!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The first snub, ever. Two kitties (fed Friskies before adopting) have now been on a diet of high-end & prescription food, incl. a min. of 10 brands/15 flavors in rotation, and this is the first flavor to be snubbed. They wouldn't even try it just a little bit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Several of my cats loved this.... I have 6 cats, several old and several younger. You're the only place I've found that carries G/D. I got a case, and (typical of cats), some of them love it and some don't. But it's a good food, and I certainly would buy it again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could we have more flavor options? My 18 yr. old cat has always had a good appetite, which borders on being voracious now that he's hyperthyroid in his old age. However, he ate this g/d canned food for just a few days before he started turning up his nose and walking away from it. Tried mixing it in w/ other canned food w/ different meat or fish, and that worked for a couple of days. His weight is down to about 8#, significantly less than his prime weight of 12-14#, so I don't want to w/hold the food he will eat to see if he get s hungry enough to eat the g/d. Maybe if there were more meat/fish options? I've never fed my cats the same flavor day after day before, so maybe that is part of the problem. The rest of the case of this food will probably go to the animal shelter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product My aging kitty Missey loved this food but after a dozen cans will not touch it. She has kidney issues at the age of 15 and will probably be on this the rest of her life. I have called my vet to see if there is something else I can give her as I don't want to give her regular food like my other 4 cats. She also has other health issues. Love Chewy's customer service and products You Guys Rock! Have been a customer now for over a year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Necessity for my cat My 15 year old Ocicat was born developing kidney stones. Major surgery every three months the first 18 monthes of her life to remove the stones and alopurinol for years to keep stones from developing. Hills recommended GD and she has been stone free for 8 years. Hills saved Amelia's life and now I am having trouble getting GD as it is backordered from Hills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our 14 year old cat Lulu had become very ill with heart disease. With Hill's G/D and a balance of medication, she's fat and sassy. Can't get enough! Our cat was near death from a combination of heart disease and excessive prescribed lasix that had eliminated all potassium in her system. With a corrected balance of medication and only g/d canned food, she's regained her ideal weight and is playful and happy - seems years younger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My cat actually likes it! My cat is on a diet of only canned g/d because she had surgery for a bladder stone that was caused by too much protein in the diet. She actually loves the food, her coat has never looked better, and she is playful like a kitten at 9 years old.
