Description

As cats age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your cats because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your cat's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your cat eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health.

Key Benefits

  • Clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older cat's kidney and heart for overall health
  • Reduced phosphorus to minimize stress on aging kidneys and reduced sodium to help maintain normal blood pressure
  • Optimal fat levels reduce pancreatic workload and minimize fluid retention
  • Added taurine helps maintain normal heart muscle function for your senior feline
  • Targeted levels of high quality protein coupled with clinically proven antioxidants make this prescription the perfect diet to help your cat continue to enjoy a happy and active life

For best results & safety practices: Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food, canned food & treats. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

Transition Instructions

A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. • Hills Prescription G/D canned cat food

    By on

My cat was diagnosed with very high blood pressure, causing sudden onset blindness. My veterinarian prescribed high blood pressure medicine and suggested a heart care diet. I purchased both the canned and dry Hill's G/D. My cat tried It, but I don't believe it agreed with her, and she hasn't eaten anymore. Perhaps other cats would enjoy the G/D diet, but I can't recommend it based on my cat's preference.

Chewy is a superb service for those of us who would otherwise have no way to get prescription food for our special needs pet. Sherbet and I live in a low cost housing complex and I have seen Chewy boxes being carried through the lobby to the elevators for delivery to a number of our resident pets. The Chewy service is expedient and greatly appreciated.

  • We highly recommend chewy.com!

We are thrilled not just with the products and pricing but also with the quick shipping/delivery. Even more important I know all of our 4-legged family members give it Chewy a 5-star rating!! And another added benefit is there is always a 'warm body' available by phone to help answer my questions.

  • Cats won't touch it.

I bought this for a cat newly diagnosed with a blood clot. He took one sniff and then walked away. Since then, he walks around it- he won't go near it. None of my other 4 cats will eat it either.

  • My cat loves it.

My cat is thirteen and had been on a K/D diet which she did not love. My vet decided that she needed more nutrition because she was losing too much weight and muscle mass. Since changing she has gained some weight and definitely enjoys the food much more.

  • Good for my cats heart health.

    By on

Similar to a human child, getting a cat to eat something good for them can be a challenge. My heart murmured and overweight cat will only eat this when I fail to give her her Hartz Bisque food. All other food options expended she will finally eat some of the food. My normal health Siamese male will eat it but never finish what's there which is unusual for him. Overall, I don't think I will be re-ordering this due to a lack of taste/smell attraction for the cat that it really needs to eat it. If I have to spend money I'd rather spend it on something palatable for her that is also beneficial to her health. Just a little more tweaking for Hills and it's a winner.

  • Sassy senior

My kitty is 12 and has some early signs of kidney issues. This food helps her immensely. Normal levels for the past 2 years since starting this diet. Loves the dry food...but not the wet food. Go figure, right?
