Description

The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Cat Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your cat’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Key Benefits

  • Protects vital kidney and heart function and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
  • Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T.) technology helps stimulate the appetite and increase caloric intake.
  • Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
  • Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

  • Hooray for K/D Dry!

    By on

Thank goodness for the dry food formula. One of my cats has recently been diagnosed with early stage kidney failure, and the vet gave me a can of the wet food equivalent to take home and try. He gobbled it right up, but only because he had been fasting for over 18 hours. When I started incorporating it into his regular food thereafter, he grew less and less interested the more the ratio of the K/D pate to his old food grew. So, I decided to take a chance and switch to dry and see if he likes that better. I'm happy to report that I mixed a small portion of the K/D pate with this dry formula, and I have NEVER seen him eat so enthusiastically! It's a hit and a lifesaver. • Cat says it Yummy!

    By on

Our 15-year-old female kitty has early stage kidney disease. The vet put her on this kibble, and she loves it. She has no teeth and is able to process the small pieces without a problem. Our 10-year-old male cat also loves it (and doesn't have kidney disease) and our vet said no problem, as these Hills Rx Diets are complete meals according to the Hills rep. Good news, as I can't keep the male kitty out of the female's food.

  • Success with k/d!

    By on

My vet recommended this food for my 16 year old cat. She was not doing well and blood tests showed her kidneys were at least a good bit of the problem. She loves this food, eats it very well, and seems to be doing much better. Gaining weight and stopped throwing up. Well worth the price for a sweet old girl!

  • Does cat eat the food?

    By on

The test is, "Will the cat eat the food?" She does and so does the other cat who needs urinary diet. They have to be fed in different areas. She has been on it for a few months. I do not know if it is helping her, but I am happy to try. Next blood test will tell.

  • Recommended!!!!

    By on

We feed this food to our senior cat (he is in the early stages of kidney disease) and to our 3 year old cat (he requires an SO formula for bladder crystals). My vet recommended this brand and formula because it was safe for both cats, despite their different diet needs. They both like it, they also go bananas over the pate version! Most importantly though, this takes care of both of my cats issues and it's very noticeable in their drinking and bathroom behaviors... A tad expensive but worth it!

  • Another picky feline

Lucy, who is a senior rescue, prefers this to the ocean fish flavor dry food but is not hugely enthusiastic about this product either. It is an ad lib supplement to her regular feedings and I've noticed that she nibbles at it during the night so I'm hoping she gets some of its benefits.

  • After so many years, the new improved formula didn't work for us...

Our cat Sony is on Renal Support diet for the past 5 years. We were feeding him Hill's Prescription k/d Kidney Care chicken dry food all these years and it was a superb, fantastic food that did an amazing job keeping him healthy. Cats' kidneys begin to fail with age but Sony, although he is 17.5 years old, has only mild renal disease. No doubt that Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care diet helped protect his kidneys and prevent Kidney failure. But a few months ago Hill's changed their k/d Kidney Care formula (Note the red banner on the package that says "IMPROVED FORMULA") and Sony stopped eating. We transitioned to Royal Canin renal support F dry and Sony is back to eating really well Our cat Sony is on Renal Support diet for the past 5 years. • Better Than Most Renal Diets

    By on

I've tried nearly EVERY kidney diet. And while they really should eat as much canned as possible (I always mix in a little water to any canned food for more hydration), sometimes they insist on dry. This version of K/D Kidney Care with Chicken Dry is the one dry that my renal cats will eat most readily.

  • This food works

    By on

My vet recommended this food for our older cat (16 years old) that started peeing on the floor in the house. Within a few days the cat stopped peeing on the floor. That was several years ago, and the cat continues to do fine. The cat seems to like the food. I mix the dry food with the canned food.
