Feeding Instructions

Because iodine intake from other food sources -- treats, another cats food, etc. -- can compromise the effectiveness of low-iodine nutrition, its critical that you follow your veterinarians feeding instructions carefully and feed only y/d.Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results & safety practices: Cover and refrigerate unused portion. Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food & canned food. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

Transition Instructions

A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend no transition or a shorter transition time.

Hill's Prescription Diet y/d Thyroid Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Minnie liked it! My cat was very picky but she immediately went for this food. She wolfed it down. However she was pretty sick so it might have been too late to help and she passed soon after I started feeding it to her. I don't think it had anything to do with the food and I would recommend trying it if your cat has thyroid issues

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING FOOD I cannot express how amazing this y/d food is. We thought our kitty would not like the food but we gave her the chance. This is such a great alternative to the ID treatment (that is costly but if we had to do it we would). Our cats thyroid level was very high and we put her on this food - only water and y/d. We were in compliance with it for four weeks and she went back to be tested and it was normal - even the doctors were AMAZED!! Added note: it must be refrigerated after opening - our kitty is spoiled so we take a quarter of the can and mash it up with a tiny bit of water and microwave it for 9 seconds - and she eats the whole thing (she hates it cold from the frig). Another great idea is slice off some like you would cranberry sauce from a can and cut into small squares and bake on a ungreased cookie sheet for 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven. It must be 30 minutes from trial and error or they are soft. After completely cooled, store them in a plastic bag. Don't spoil them to much with this treat. Again, we strongly recommend this y/d food.

Chewy was the way to go: * lower price than the vet * delivered to my house, free shipping, no need to call vet ahead of time and make a trip to get the food * easy ordering--I supplied the vet's name and phone number and Chewy took care of the rest * fast delivery--roughly 36 hours from placing order to receiving it Thanks, Chewy! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy R/X Fulfillment... ...BUT: 90% of the cans of cat food that were in the case were dented. This made me wonder if they were "legit". I've always been told that I shouldn't purchase anything in cans that were dented. I never purchase food for my family in dented cans. So, I probably shouldn't for my pets. Not sure about re-ordering. Thank you for asking for my feedback!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cat eats after mixing with water At first, the cat would not eat this food. It is extremely dense and dry. It's almost like peanut butter consistency to the cat. The cat was used to the grilled cat food with the 'sauce' and the sauce is key. I divide the can in to four portions and give 1/4 of can per day. I chop up the food so it's in small pieces and add water/stir to make it soupy. The cat drinks the sauce at a minimum and sometimes eats the food. This keeps the hyperthyroid issue under control and is better than applying expensive meds. She also has the dry food available at all times.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Speedy delivery! My cats prefer the y/d dry over the wet. That's opposite to what it was with Friskies. Just wish it came in a fish flavor or one they find more appealing. My 17 year old cat is losing a bit of weight, unfortunately, because she just isn't eating this wet food like she needs to.
