Feeding Instructions

Because iodine intake from other food sources -- treats, another cats food, etc. -- can compromise the effectiveness of low-iodine nutrition, its critical that you follow your veterinarians feeding instructions carefully and feed only y/d.Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results & safety practices: Cover and refrigerate unused portion. Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food & canned food. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

Transition Instructions

A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend no transition or a shorter transition time.

  • Yummy, please serve me more of that tasty cat food!

    By on

Sammie has hyperthyroidism and for the last 10 months I served him the YD dry cat food. I would let it on the floor for him to eat as he pleases. I figured that, by now, he might be bored only eating the YD dry cat food, so I decided to try the wet canned US cat food. Like the dry meal, he just loved the wet canned cat food. He would polish up the bowl. Being very frugal, I divide the can into 3 parts and add some warm water (it is sort of dry) and he lives it! I serve it once a day at supper. Diane Roach

  • They love it!

My senior hyperthyroid cat (and his healthy brother) started y/d dry recently. They seemed to love it and adjusted very quickly, but also missed their canned food. I hesitated to try y/d canned after reading reviews that cats didn't like the consistency and wouldn't eat it. Fortunately, I followed the advice of a few reviewers to add a bit of warm water to soften this food. They love it! After about 3 weeks on dry (and about 2 weeks on canned), my boy is starting to gain weight.

  • hyperthyroid

I took my very large 14 year old cat to the vet for a check-up. He had lost 6 pounds! After blood work, my vet determined he had hyperthroidism, normal level is 1-4, his was 7.1. I started him on the yd diet, both canned and dry. He loves the food and a month later his level is 2.3! The canned food is very dense, so much so, that after adding a little water, I am able to get 6 feedings per can. It's expensive and has the worst ingredients, but it works. Unfortunately, the vet said he would probably gain the 6 pounds back.

  • Great product

Having to put my cat on a prescription food was my one of the choices my vet gave me for my cat's hyperthyroidism. My cat loved it from the get go and has gained 3 oz. in little over a week. She loves the food and eats more of it then the old food. Am very delighted with the results

  • Expensive way to find out....

Since there are no trial sizes offered , I am pretty bummed that I spent so much money on a product of my cat will not try. I am sure the product is excellent, but my cat will not come near it. Have tried numerous ways of introducing it to his diet, but he will not eat it!

  • Easy R/X Fulfillment...

...BUT: 90% of the cans of cat food that were in the case were dented. This made me wonder if they were "legit". I've always been told that I shouldn't purchase anything in cans that were dented. I never purchase food for my family in dented cans. So, I probably shouldn't for my pets. Not sure about re-ordering. Thank you for asking for my feedback!

  • Food helped my cat regain her normal weight

This product has really helped my 10 year old cat with thyroid troubles. She has regained her normal weight. She doesn't eat a lot of the wet food but gets great nutrition from her portion. She also loves the dry food version.

  • Minnie liked it!

My cat was very picky but she immediately went for this food. She wolfed it down. However she was pretty sick so it might have been too late to help and she passed soon after I started feeding it to her. I don't think it had anything to do with the food and I would recommend trying it if your cat has thyroid issues

  • Speedy delivery!

My cats prefer the y/d dry over the wet. That's opposite to what it was with Friskies. Just wish it came in a fish flavor or one they find more appealing. My 17 year old cat is losing a bit of weight, unfortunately, because she just isn't eating this wet food like she needs to.
