Feeding Instructions

Because iodine intake from other food sources -- treats, another cats food, etc. -- can compromise the effectiveness of low-iodine nutrition, its critical that you follow your veterinarians feeding instructions carefully and feed only y/d.Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results & safety practices: Cover and refrigerate unused portion. Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food & canned food. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

Transition Instructions

A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend no transition or a shorter transition time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product is good The product is a little dry but you have to microwave it a little and add a little water. My cat eats it just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING FOOD I cannot express how amazing this y/d food is. We thought our kitty would not like the food but we gave her the chance. This is such a great alternative to the ID treatment (that is costly but if we had to do it we would). Our cats thyroid level was very high and we put her on this food - only water and y/d. We were in compliance with it for four weeks and she went back to be tested and it was normal - even the doctors were AMAZED!! Added note: it must be refrigerated after opening - our kitty is spoiled so we take a quarter of the can and mash it up with a tiny bit of water and microwave it for 9 seconds - and she eats the whole thing (she hates it cold from the frig). Another great idea is slice off some like you would cranberry sauce from a can and cut into small squares and bake on a ungreased cookie sheet for 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven. It must be 30 minutes from trial and error or they are soft. After completely cooled, store them in a plastic bag. Don't spoil them to much with this treat. Again, we strongly recommend this y/d food.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Speedy delivery! My cats prefer the y/d dry over the wet. That's opposite to what it was with Friskies. Just wish it came in a fish flavor or one they find more appealing. My 17 year old cat is losing a bit of weight, unfortunately, because she just isn't eating this wet food like she needs to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Food helped my cat regain her normal weight This product has really helped my 10 year old cat with thyroid troubles. She has regained her normal weight. She doesn't eat a lot of the wet food but gets great nutrition from her portion. She also loves the dry food version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cat eats after mixing with water At first, the cat would not eat this food. It is extremely dense and dry. It's almost like peanut butter consistency to the cat. The cat was used to the grilled cat food with the 'sauce' and the sauce is key. I divide the can in to four portions and give 1/4 of can per day. I chop up the food so it's in small pieces and add water/stir to make it soupy. The cat drinks the sauce at a minimum and sometimes eats the food. This keeps the hyperthyroid issue under control and is better than applying expensive meds. She also has the dry food available at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from hyperthyroid I took my very large 14 year old cat to the vet for a check-up. He had lost 6 pounds! After blood work, my vet determined he had hyperthroidism, normal level is 1-4, his was 7.1. I started him on the yd diet, both canned and dry. He loves the food and a month later his level is 2.3! The canned food is very dense, so much so, that after adding a little water, I am able to get 6 feedings per can. It's expensive and has the worst ingredients, but it works. Unfortunately, the vet said he would probably gain the 6 pounds back.
