Feeding Instructions

How much food your cat eats each day is dependent upon size, level of activity, stage or reproduction, and environment. When feeding in measured amounts, feed according to the weight of your cat. When feeding with out 96% meat cans, reduce dry amount fed by 1/4 cup for every 3 oz of wet food. Add 1/4 cup of dry cat food for each additional 2 lbs. Adjust feeding level to your cat's individual needs. Kittens and nursing females may consume two or three times the recommended amount per day. Keep fresh water available at all times. Store in a cool dry place.

Transition Instructions

Slowly transition your pet by choosing one of Merrick's high quality diets for your cat or dog. Mix the Merrick food with your current pet's food over the course of 5-7 days. Continuously increase the amount of the Merrick food while decreasing the amount in your dog or cat's current diet.

5 paws up (technically 16 paws....we have 4 cats). I switched to this food from the Merrick Limited Ingredient turkey flavor. My cats were eating it fine, just I was reading about cat foods, and that one had a lower fat content, and higher carb. Not ideal. So this one has better percentages. The cats were bouncing off the walls, and me, while I tried to put out clean bowls and fill with this new food. lol. They loved it. Even our cat Hobbes who is more of a wet food guy seems to be eating more of this. We also feed Weruva wet food 2 times a day. My 4 cats have never snubbed a dry food. They don't like Merrick's wet food, and anything pate is a no go. We've fed Wellness (different varieties 5 paws up (technically 16 paws....we have 4 cats). We've fed Wellness (different varieties), Blue Wilderness (too many K calories), Royal Canin (this was what they were eating when we adopted them) and the Merrick Limited Ingredient Turkey. Wellness was good, but too expensive. Merrick seems to be good food for a good value. Also, just know that if you order food from Chewy, and your cats don't like it. Let Chewy know. They'll refund you and have you donate the food to a local shelter that your cats won't eat. Or dogs. So there is NO RISK to trying new foods on chewy. We've done this twice when we tried different wet foods. Just a tip : ) Cause you know cats are wacko. lol. … more

  • What do semi-wild cats and kittens eat?

They all seem to like this food very well. Was using a brand no longer available through Chewy, but the cats seem to like this one more.

  • Cats love it

Both of my cats love this food. The pieces are small, which makes it good for Betsey, who isn't a big eater and only needs a little at a time, and Nardo, who eats everything under the sun. I am so happy with the ingredients and the price on this food!

My three cats don't really like it yet are tolerating it...probably because it has more healthy ingredients.

  • They love it!

I have 5 cats and they all love this food! After trying several different brands, this was hands down their favorite. They eat so much that I cannot keep their bowl filled. I will definitely be purchasing this again.

  • No more daily vomiting of food

    By on

We had used another brand of dry food for several years with no problems. Then both cats began to have digestive issues. We began to try different brands, including grain-free varieties, but both kitties still were vomiting food almost daily. We then tried the Merrick Before Grain Chicken Formula, based on online reviews. After just a few days, they both were much better and they love the Merrick food! We highly recommend it.

  • Cats like it

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

My cats enjoy the food and it comes in smaller pieces which since I have a gulper I appreciate. I only have one thing against it and that is the color. It is a dark brown - obviously with added color. Wish they hadn't it's one more thing to clean up when they throw up! A lighter color would be much easier to get out

  • All 7 Love This Food

Wanted to try something different that was relatively affordable with great ingredients. This dry food has it all and all 7 - ages 1 1/2 to 10 - really really like this food.

I was hoping my 2 yr old orange tabby would like it but he's clearly NOT a fan. I'm mixing it in with what he does love which is Purina Beyond Grain Free and just will end up sticking with what he likes. Hey we tried.
