Rated 5 out of 5 by Lynn18 Perfect for cats with chicken allergy
My cat had been having a really tough time of inflammatory bowel disorder, and after a lot of vet visits, medication, and experimenting with different foods (including vet prescribed hypoallergenic stuff), we finally found success with a chicken-free diet. We were feeding him California Natural's salmon formula because it contained no chicken, chicken meal, chicken broth, etc (any of that stuff would trigger litter box problems and bloody stools) but when California Natural discontinued its cat food line we were panicked.
Lots of label reading at the local pet store brought us to the Natural Balance green pea and salmon formula, and he's been IBD symptom free for over a year now. We started with the wet and added in the dry and he's tolerated both well. He loves the taste and I love that he's healthy again, and that I'm not cleaning up cat diarrhea all the time. Chewy helps make a pretty expensive and hard to find food easy to access and easier to afford!

All three of my cats loved the Salmon & Green Pea Formula, except the most recent production batch in Spring 2014. This flavor was out of stock for a few months in early 2014. I was so happy when the Salmon & Green Pea came back in stock with Chewy that I ordered two cases in mid-April 2014 so we would have enough for a few months, but my cats will not touch these cans. Of these two cases, I have tried 5-6 cans intermittently over the past 2.5 months and they still refuse to to eat any of the cans in this batch. I do recall the prior cans were moister and lighter in color. I agree with the other two April 2014 reviews about the consistency being just too dry and an issue of quality control. Sadly, my most finicky Princess and underweight cat loved this flavor the first time around, and I could be assured that she would eat this if all other choices failed. Now, I am back on the hunt for her fail-safe choice. I, too, will donate the unused cans to rescue as I hate to waste any more cans.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tara Great food!
Very very odd texture for sure! However, my kitty is actually holding this stuff down and her allergies are calmer as well. I guess due to real and also limited ingredients she is definitely tons better! She will lick her bowl clean which never happens either!

Rated 5 out of 5 by KittyWhitney11 My cats loves this!
I'm trying to get my cat back to eating better food and I was experimenting with this pate. It's a weird, sticky texture but she loves it. It's got her going to the cat box regularly too. I'm usually on poop patrol to make sure she's going enough and since she started eating this she's been back to her regular size & timing...woo-hoo!

Rated 2 out of 5 by PWhitewolf The cats hate this.
I am not sure what has happened to Natural Balance cat food. I'm sure it's still a great, healthy product, but I think they have changed their ingredients, the recipe, or something. I have bought this flavor of Natural Balance before, and the cats loved it. When I opened the first can on this case, it didn't even look the same. It looked like cheap cat food. This is my third unsatisfactory experience with Natural Balance canned cat food (three different kinds). I'm giving up on them and trying something else like Blue Buffalo. Natural Balance used to be "purrrffect" and now it's just "hissy". I am donating all my Natural Balance to my local shelter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Spencer One of the very few chicken free foods
Our cat is severely allergic to chicken, and or grain foods. His condition got so bad, he actually had to have his leg amputated because he would constantly lick it, and because he did there was irreversible damage. I shopped around, and every dry and canned cat food had some kind of chicken in it, even the fish varieties. There would be chicken broth, chicken livers, chicken fat, always some type of chicken product in the food. Natural Balance Salmon and Pea was one of only two brands that I could find that was totally chicken free, and grain free. The other brand he wouldn't eat. Its been four months now, and our cat no longer chews or licks constantly, and his fur has totally grown back in.

This "food" isn't fit for my neighbor's yappy little dog. Neither of my cats will touch it. It smells horrible also. Buyer beware!
