Rated 1 out of 5 by Used to Love this Food - Formula Recently Changed Like many of you out there who love your cats, I originally chose this brand of wet food because it was one of the very few on the market that is not only grain free but also free of harmful emulsifiers like carrageenan and guar gum (99% of even top quality cat foods contain at least one of these). While the label has remained the same, the last two cases of food I have received have been...different. The appearance of the food itself has a greasy, yellowish tinge to it and a significant portion of the meat seems to have been replaced by water/jelly. To my eyes, it does not appear to be an appealing food product and my cats are not fooled either - they used to devour their meals and now I am lucky if I can get them to eat half a portion. I don't know what has changed at Nature's Variety but this is definitely not the product it used to be. I am now switching to ZiwiPeak. It is unfortunately more expensive, but worth it for the quality and peace of mind - knowing that I am feeding my cats something that is actually good for them. September 7, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good stuff My domesticated feral loves this. I feed her a half can mixed with a table spoon of orijen twice a day. She's gained and maintained a healthy 2.5 pounds since I found her. Also, I called Nature's variety and they confirmed that this and the Ultimate Protein with the black and gold label is the same exact thing with different labels. October 11, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Grain-Free? My cat likes this food. HOWEVER, how can this food be labeled 'Grain-Free' when there is ground flax as one of the main ingredients? Can someone please explain this? Maybe I'm missing something...Thank you. October 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome for my picky eater I have definitely recommend this food to all my friends! After hours and hours of countless research I found this to meet all the marks!! It was mentioned on many many third-party review blogs and websites . But what is even more compelling is that when I got it home and served it to my cat (who has always been a picky eater or and turned his nose up or only taking a couple bites) he got so excited and is always scarfing it down !! To me the smell is compelling- it is real. Also there's a great amount of moisture and the quantity of proteins to fat to carbs is ideal. Unbelievable. I cannot say enough about this wet food. There are no grains or starches like potato- no fillers- just real food; it's 95% protein. Then 5% is vegetables; you can see little pieces of real veggie in there. Everything gets eaten; my cats clean their plate!! I could not be happier or more impressed. July 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Our cat [Sidney] Loves this food Sidney loves the Basic Instinct dry food/chicken formula, so I thought I would buy the canned food for him. I'm trying to avoid the fish/tuna foods after hearing scary facts of mercury content, plus they just smell fishy!!!!! He loves this food and will have it from now on :-) October 1, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good food I bought this food because my Siamese has a tricky digestive system. So far, so good. He (and the other two cats) love this food. My only complaint is the price. It's very expensive. September 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Saved my cat's life That sounds dramatic, but it's not. My kitty is 1 1/2 years old. When he was about 6 months old he was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) caused by coronavirus and was very sick. He had gross, wet, clear-the-room stinky stools and was in renal failure. My vet didn't expect him to live. We were devastated. I did a TON of internet research and landed on Nature's Instinct. I picked it because of the ingredients list which included montmorillonite clay. The food looks like real food. You can see actual vegetables in the food. My kitty is not only alive but has made a complete recovery (and his poo smells SO MUCH BETTER!). I have nothing but good things to say about Natures Instinct. We will feed our pets nothing else! Rated 4 out of 5 by picky eater likes it of my 3 cats, one can't "stomach" (keep down) most of today's canned cat foods, but this one she likes and can tolerate. i like that it is grain free and healthy. September 25, 2016
