Nature's Variety Instinct Grain-Free Chicken Formula Canned Cat Food is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 184.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used to Love this Food - Formula Recently Changed Like many of you out there who love your cats, I originally chose this brand of wet food because it was one of the very few on the market that is not only grain free but also free of harmful emulsifiers like carrageenan and guar gum (99% of even top quality cat foods contain at least one of these). While the label has remained the same, the last two cases of food I have received have been...different. The appearance of the food itself has a greasy, yellowish tinge to it and a significant portion of the meat seems to have been replaced by water/jelly. To my eyes, it does not appear to be an appealing food product and my cats are not fooled either - they used to devour their meals and now I am lucky if I can get them to eat half a portion. I don't know what has changed at Nature's Variety but this is definitely not the product it used to be. I am now switching to ZiwiPeak. It is unfortunately more expensive, but worth it for the quality and peace of mind - knowing that I am feeding my cats something that is actually good for them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top choice for soft food. Nature's variety instinct is a top choice for cats soft food for both quality and healthy ingredients not to mention cats love it. While it is on the expensive end your cats will be healthier for it and I feed my two cats half this and half of a high quality dry food for their 3 meals a day and a can lasts 5 meals or almost 2 days. The only issue you might have is since it is a pate it is a bit more solid then other types of soft food and even more so since I store it in the refrigerator between meals. Because of this I add a bit extra water to it, cats getting more water in their diet is a good thing, and heat up the two bowels together in the microwave for 8 seconds to make it easier to mix it with their dry food.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but smelly My cat will eat this food, but when I open the can it really smells=stinks. I'm thinking that this is causing smelly stools that I can smell in another room of the house from the litter box. I have since changed to a less smelly wet cat food which has reduced the odor. In spite of the smell, it seems to be a decent food with some ingredients probably not necessary for a cat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Both cats love the food, I love the service and the product. My order of Instinct Chicken Cat Food came right on time. Both my cats devour it and I have no waste. Before they would leave most of the food I bought in the bowl and cry during the day because they were hungry, with Instinct Chicken. They hardly ever go to the hard food bowl anymore! Thank you for a satisfying product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wet Food to Help Prevent Dehydration I lost one of my kitties after feeding junk dry food for too long. In order to prevent losing my other fur child, I researched a good nutritional wet food to start feeding my kitty. She appears to love it so far. Please know what you are feeding your pets. I only gave 4 stars cuz it's too soon to tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for my picky eater I have definitely recommend this food to all my friends! After hours and hours of countless research I found this to meet all the marks!! It was mentioned on many many third-party review blogs and websites . But what is even more compelling is that when I got it home and served it to my cat (who has always been a picky eater or and turned his nose up or only taking a couple bites) he got so excited and is always scarfing it down !! To me the smell is compelling- it is real. Also there's a great amount of moisture and the quantity of proteins to fat to carbs is ideal. Unbelievable. I cannot say enough about this wet food. There are no grains or starches like potato- no fillers- just real food; it's 95% protein. Then 5% is vegetables; you can see little pieces of real veggie in there. Everything gets eaten; my cats clean their plate!! I could not be happier or more impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helping Ordered for our two 15 year old cats. Vet said they need more protein and to feed more wet food. This brand is great! The cats are enjoying it. Will need to order more soon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I'm baffled My cats usually go bananas for wet food especially if it's chicken flavored. The first time I tried feeding this to them they heard the can open and ran to their food bowl so excited. As soon as they saw/smelled the contents they lost interest and walked away. One cat came back and had a couple nibbles but that's it. I've tried feeding it to them a few times and get the same results every time. By human standards it is probably the least disgusting smelling cat food ever, and I bought it because it seemed one of the healthier brands I could afford...but it's no good if my cats wont' eat it. I bought the dry version of this too which they'll tolerate but still aren't a fan of. Bummer.
