Feeding Instructions

Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation. Divide the cups per day by the number of feedings per day. Be sure to always provide clean, fresh water. Along with dry food, we recommend feeding raw or wet food to help increase the amount of water in your pet’s diet.

Daily Feeding Guidelines (standard 8 oz dry measure cup):

Weight Adult Daily Feeding (Cups) Weight Loss Daily Feeding (Cups)
5 lbs 3/8 1/4
10 lbs 1/2 3/8
15 lbs 3/4 1/2

Kittens: Feed up to twice the adult maintenance amount.

Pregnant/Nursing Females: Feed up to three times the adult maintenance amount shown above.

Transition Instructions

Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.

Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations and information on how to easily combine different forms of food.

The Pure, Real Nutrition of Raw Is In Everything Instinct Does

Instinct's Responsibility as The Raw Brand

LEAD WITH RAW

It all started with Instinct's raw pet food. Since the beginning, they've led with raw because they know the good it can do. They're rewriting the rules of pet food and championing raw nutrition to bring its superior benefits to all that they do.

KEEP IT REAL

Delicious and nutritious pet food should only use real ingredients. For Instinct, this means all-natural, real meat, fruits and vegetables, with nothing artificial.

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Feeding raw should be simple, and it should easily fit into your everyday routine. Instinct believes raw should be accessible to pet parents so every pet can experience the benefits of raw nutrition.

GIVE BACK

Instinct believes in the power of raw nutrition. It only makes sense to share it. Together with Best Friends Animal Society, they're furthering the no-kill movement and their shared mission of transforming and saving the lives of pets.

MAKE IT BETTER

Instinct has never been afraid to challenge the status quo of pet nutrition. They continuously redefine what better means—always pushing their standards of nutrition to raise the bar in pet food.

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece

ONE MILLION MEALS

All pets deserve food that's real, nutrient-rich, grain-free and natural. That's why Instinct provides over one million meals annually to the dogs and cats at Best Friends Animal Society adoption centers nationwide. Because what we feed them can make all the difference. Here "we" refers to the pet parent, not Instinct.

About Instinct

Instinct believes deeply that it's up to them to find a way to make it possible for more people to feed their pets the pure, real nutrition that only comes from raw. They know that if they can get the nutrition of raw into more bowls, they'll transform the lives of more pets. And that's really why they do what they do.

  • My Cat Loves It

    By on

I have never seen my cat tear into a food like she did with this one. She gobbled it down by the mouthfuls and begged for more. This was so amazing a major hit in my house. Will buy again.

  • Not the same

I have been buying this for my ferrets. I knew they changed formulas to add peas. I checked online and the ingredients did not list peas so I purchased it. When I got it, it was the newer package and had peas in it so I couldn't use it. Gave it to my cats so it didn't go to waste. Website ingredients need to be updated!!

  • My Serval liked it but he picked out the freeze dried raw meat.

    By on

I purchased this food because Serval's do best on a raw food diet. It's decent food, but my cat picked out the freeze dried raw meat particles that are mixed in with the other kibble. I thought this was mostly a raw meat product and didn't realize that it's just little freeze dried raw meat kibble here and there mixed in with the bulk of the food. I may buy it again, but my cat seems to prefer the little "treats" in there instead of eating the entire portion. He'll eat it but isn't thrilled with it. I'll have to read the ingredients again before I make a decision to re-purchase this cat food.

  • Absolutely love this product! I buy it for my ferrets and I'm one picky ferrant

    By on

I spent hours of reading to find the very best for my ferrets! After compiling all the nutritional info I found that this product was the best! Love the raw boost bites, although when I bought my first bag was surprised to see how many raw freeze dried bites where in there and disappointed in the next three! I'm hoping this was a fluke and I just got a few bags with not a ton of luck!

  • Dr. wants her to eat turkey but she'd rather starve...

    By on

This is very good food but my Mia detests turkey meat and would rather starve and bite me to give back her red meat. Dr wanted her to eat the limited ingredient turkey in cans but she refused so I thought I would try this with the duck and have better results. Mia will only eat the raw pieces (marshmallows out of the lucky charms) from the kibble and then persistently try to coax me into giving her back a red meat diet. Very good food if your kitty eats turkey meat though. Most recently I tried the rabbit and that she'll eat it's just not what the Dr has ordered.

  • Healthy cat food that my cats love

    By on

My vet recommended the Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost food for my 3 cats because it's so healthy and good for the cats. My cats are 6 mos, 10 years and 18 years and this food is excellent for all of them. In fact it's the only dry catfood my vet recommends and sells. I bought a small bag from the vet to test it out and my cats gobbled it up. I now have the large bag on auto-ship through Chewy . Excellent product!

  • Our cats wouldn't touch the stuff with a ten foot cat toy wand

    By on

We really really wanted to like this cat food but our cats refuse to eat it. They would rather go hungry than eat this food. Also, the freeze dried bits are way too large for our cats to eat. We broke them into tiny pieces but, again, our cats refused to eat it. I have to say, this food doesn't look or smell particularly yummy compared to the other premium, small batch cat food we were feeding them. Cats will be cats but I do wish there was a less expensive "test" size bag.

  • My Cat Loves This Food, But Not Enough Freeze Dried Bits Like Before

    By on

My cat prefers this food above all the others he has tried. He is a cat and therefore fairly picky, but he loves this food! The only thing that is a disappointment is that in the most recent bag there were only about 5 freeze dried bits, which is his favorite part of this food and he ate those pieces immediately. I was really bummed that the food has seriously cut back on the freeze dried bits and wish they would bring that quality and quantity back. Otherwise, I highly recommend this food.
