Feeding Instructions

The amount of food your cat requires will depend on activity level, age, and environment. Feed at room temperature and refrigerate unused portion. Always provide access to clean, fresh water.

For adult cats, feed about 2 cans per 7 lb of body weight.

Transition Instructions

It is always a good idea to start out slowly on a new diet with any pet. Slowly increase the amount of new food being added to the present diet over a period of 5-7 days. If any digestive upset or loose stool occurs, make the transition more gradual. It is a good idea to allow your pet's digestive system to calm down and return to normal before proceeding. There is no need to rush this transition. Once your pet is accustomed to Nature's Variety foods, you can rotate freely between forms and flavors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are your products made?

All Nature's Variety foods and treats are manufactured in the United States.

Where do your meat and poultry come from?

Nature's Variety is committed to using high quality, safe ingredients from government-inspected facilities. Our natural ingredients are continuously inspected for quality and tested for analytical compliance before being accepted at our facilities.

Why do I occasionally notice a slight change in the color of your diets?

Nature's Variety does not include any artificial colors or dyes in our wholesome foods. As a result, the color of our food is totally dependent upon the color of our healthy ingredients, and may vary from time to time. Absolutely consistent and uniform color does not come from nature.

Why do I occasionally notice a difference in the moisture content of your Instinct cans?

Our Instinct canned diets are predominantly meat and are all natural (with added vitamins and minerals). As a result, our canned diets will directly reflect the amount of natural moisture that is in a variety of meat or poultry. For example, lamb is a drier meat – so our lamb formulas often have less noticeable moisture than our rabbit formulas (as rabbit meat has higher levels of natural moisture). Please be assured that the natural moisture present in our canned diets will never exceed the percentage that is guaranteed on the label.

What is the shelf life for your products?

Instinct, Prairie, and Homestyle cans – 2 years (unopened).

How are your foods preserved?

Nature's Variety uses only natural preservatives for our wholesome foods. For our canned diets, the manufacturing (or retort) process sterilizes the food and removes all air, thus there is no need for additional preservatives.

How do I store your kibble and canned diets?

We recommend storing our canned foods in a cool place, protected from extreme heat or cold. Once a can has been opened, refrigerate the unused portion until it can be fed (up to a day or so).

Transition Instructions

Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Pride by Instinct with the current food each day.

Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations and information on how to easily combine different forms of food.

My two cats love this food! However they do leave some on the plate and I think this because it is minced/flaked. In general, they prefer pate, but they eat this well.

Both of my cats love this stuff. Chicken is really the only animal protein they both like. Chewy delivered ahead of their estimated time ..definitely a plus! :)

  • Recommended for cats with Irritable Bowel Syndrom

    By on

This particular cat food was on the list of brands for cats with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The cat likes it and it did not irritate her digestion. I wish I could get it in pate because this particular cat is old and missing a few teeth. I would recommend this product.

  • Good consistency, cat loves it

    By on

My cat has enjoyed this food for months. Sometimes he gets picky and stops eating a food, sometimes he won't eat a food at all, but that's not the case with this brand and flavor. It breaks apart into bite-sized pieces when you take it out of the can. It's watery enough that it doesn't dry out quickly (and he loves licking juice up first). Apparently it tastes pretty good! My cat approves, the price is right, really the perfect canned cat food.

Samson likes this stuff but he isn't fussy. I've fed at least 4 different flavors from this company and Samson likes all of them.

  • Yummy & Grain-free

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I'd been trying for months to find a premium grain-free canned food that my 3 cats would all eat. I picked up a few cans of Pride in several flavors at local pet food location. (Note: at least in St. Louis, the major pet store chains do not carry. I could find it only at the posh premium pet food stores, in case you want to try in small quantities 1st.) All 3 like/love Pride, with chicken and rabbit ranking 1st, duck 2nd, and lamb 3rd, which only one of the cats will eat, but he adores it. They like the tuna as a change of pace, but salmon didn't cut it. I hate to review cat food, because as you know only too well, your cats have their own ideas about what they like and couldn't care less I'd been trying for months to find a premium grain-free canned food that my 3 cats would all eat. I was not sure the flaked chicken would go over well with my four cats. They loved it! It contains an ample amount of juice/gravy which adds to overall texture, very appealing to the cats.

  • My cats love this!

My senior cat has IBD so I'm very careful about what he can eat. After going through so many kinds of food brands I tried Natures Variety Pride. He can eat this food with no stomach issues and he loves it! I use the chicken, lamb and rabbit for variety. My other cats love this as well. I highly recommend!
