Feeding Instructions

The amount of food your cat requires will depend on activity level, age, and environment. Feed at room temperature and refrigerate unused portion. Always provide access to clean, fresh water.

For adult cats, feed about 2 cans per 7 lb of body weight.

Transition Instructions

Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Pride by Instinct with the current food each day.

Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations and information on how to easily combine different forms of food.

Transition Instructions

It is always a good idea to start out slowly on a new diet with any pet. Slowly increase the amount of new food being added to the present diet over a period of 5-7 days. If any digestive upset or loose stool occurs, make the transition more gradual. It is a good idea to allow your pet's digestive system to calm down and return to normal before proceeding. There is no need to rush this transition. Once your pet is accustomed to Nature's Variety foods, you can rotate freely between forms and flavors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are your products made?

All Nature's Variety foods and treats are manufactured in the United States.

Where do your meat and poultry come from?

Nature's Variety is committed to using high quality, safe ingredients from government-inspected facilities. Our natural ingredients are continuously inspected for quality and tested for analytical compliance before being accepted at our facilities.

Why do I occasionally notice a slight change in the color of your diets?

Nature's Variety does not include any artificial colors or dyes in our wholesome foods. As a result, the color of our food is totally dependent upon the color of our healthy ingredients, and may vary from time to time. Absolutely consistent and uniform color does not come from nature.

Why do I occasionally notice a difference in the moisture content of your Instinct cans?

Our Instinct canned diets are predominantly meat and are all natural (with added vitamins and minerals). As a result, our canned diets will directly reflect the amount of natural moisture that is in a variety of meat or poultry. For example, lamb is a drier meat – so our lamb formulas often have less noticeable moisture than our rabbit formulas (as rabbit meat has higher levels of natural moisture). Please be assured that the natural moisture present in our canned diets will never exceed the percentage that is guaranteed on the label.

What is the shelf life for your products?

Instinct, Prairie, and Homestyle cans – 2 years (unopened).

How are your foods preserved?

Nature's Variety uses only natural preservatives for our wholesome foods. For our canned diets, the manufacturing (or retort) process sterilizes the food and removes all air, thus there is no need for additional preservatives.

How do I store your kibble and canned diets?

We recommend storing our canned foods in a cool place, protected from extreme heat or cold. Once a can has been opened, refrigerate the unused portion until it can be fed (up to a day or so).

  • Great cat food!

    By on

Natures Variety has great food for cats.....My F2B male Savannah kitten loves all the other flavors also. Sometimes I mix it up with the Nature's Variety freeze dried raw food and that is really a treat! Alot to pick from in this brand and I notice some new selections are offered now....I got the new kitten food coming on my next order too! :) Thanks Chewy!

  • Quality canned food!

    By on

My 2 love this stuff, all varieties. My vet (who is amazing) even carries this brand in her office. I foolishly used to feed kibble, and making a transition to all wet food/real meat/grain free was a struggle. They were addicted to their "Fritos", as I call the dry food. I seriously tried about 5 brands before I found Nature's Variety! They've been kibble free for almost a yr now.... :)

  • Generally well-accepted, lower protein

    By on Top 50 Contributor

This food seems to be generally well-accepted among my crew. It's a minced with gravy sort of thing - gravy is fairly thick and not too runny or soupy. My only real concern is the fact that it's only 8% protein. This will make it more of a rotational meal rather than a staple here.

  • Food was good

    By on

It's seems since I went on auto ship my food orders have been making more than one cat sick . If it was just one cat getting sick, I wouldn't think it was the food, idk how chewy stores their food but this isn't the 1st time. Cat site also has people saying this, it's not just me. No More auto ship for me and looking into alternatives

  • My cats love this food

    By on

The food is more minced than pate, in case that makes a difference for your cats. My cats can both be pretty picky, but both seem to really like this.

  • Very heavy on the meat

    By on

Lots of small meat chunks, no gravy but this is remedied by adding a tablespoon of water, or in my case more because my cat won't touch water, and she still loves it. The best brand available in my opinion.

  • Great product unfortunately last shipments have been damaged: mdented cans galore, this product and other items I've ordered

    By on

If your shipping doesn't improve, you'll lose me as a customer. Too time consuming spending 30-40 minutes on the phone with CS after each delivery even if I do get credit. I have a job, I don't want another and doing business with you is hard work. I'm considering finding another resource .

  • GOOD HEALTHY CHOICE

    By on Top 50 Contributor

oNE OF MY CATS, THE LIVES TO EAT GUY, LOVES THIS LAMB CHOICE. THE OTHER, THE EATS TO LIVE TYPE, NOT SO MUCH. HE WILL EAT IT EVENTUALLY BUT HIS BROTHER HAS USUALLY ALMOST FINISHED THE WHOLE CAN. NATURALLY,, HE THE BROTHER, IS ON THE CHUBBY SIDE. THE LAMB LOOKS AND SMELLS VERY DELICIOUS AND THIS LAMB IS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT AND I WILL PUT IT ON THEIR ROTATION.

  • They eat it with vigor but it may be to rich

    By on

I won't get this again because one of my cats ( two Toygers, one Tonk) can't hold it down. It is the same high quality that is PRIDE but just not for my cats.
