Your cat or kitten is unique and her feeding requirements will vary with his environment, age and activity.

That’s why we suggest starting with the guides, and then monitoring his weight and adjusting portions as needed. Feed twice daily and remember always to keep fresh, clean water available.

Just like you, your cat or kitten is a unique individual with feeding requirements that will vary with environment, age and activity. This chart provides an initial guide. We suggest monitoring your cat's weight and adjusting amounts as needed. Feed twice daily, and always keep fresh, clean water available.

KITTENS: post weening (after 5 weeks old) feed 1/4 cup for each 1lb of body weight. At 20 weeks, feed 1/8 cup per each 1lb of body weight. Feed as an adult at 52 weeks.

GESTATION: increase the adult daily feeding amount by 25%. LACTATION: feed free choice.

Transition Instructions

Dogs and cats are often fed the same food, which means a sudden food change makes it difficult for their digestive systems to adapt, which is why it’s important to introduce the new food gradually. Going slowly will give your dog or cat time to adjust to their new food and will also reduce the chances of digestive upset.

Start by mixing 25% new food with 75% old food. Slowly change the proportions over the next 5 - 7 days by gradually increasing the amount of ORIJEN and decreasing the amount of old food. At the end of this transitioning process, you should be feeding 100% ORIJEN.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Biologically Appropriate™ concept is Simple: mirror the freshness and variety of meats that dogs and cats are evolved to eat.

Nature matched the nutrients in whole prey animals to perfectly meet your dog or cat’s needs. ORIJEN WholePrey represents the evolution of ORIJEN foods, incorporating meats, organs and cartilage in ratios that mirror the natural diet, and eliminate the need for long lists of synthetic ingredients.

Biologically Appropriate foods are formulated to match the eating anatomy of the animal they are intended for. As dogs and cats are evolved as carnivores, that means they require high concentrations of meat, high inclusions of fresh meat, and a rich diversity of meat. Is your food Biologically Appropriate™? Answer the 3 meat questions: * HOW MUCH MEAT IS IN THE TOTAL DIET? * HOW MUCH FRESH MEAT? * HOW MANODS CONTAIN BOTANICALS?**

ORIJEN is designed to match the natural diet as closely as is possible in a kibble format. Botanicals are a part of the natural diet for all cats and dogs, and play an important role in bridging the gap between good health and peak conditioning. The botanicals found in ORIJEN are selected by one of North America’s leading Homeopathic Veterinarians.

While there are many differences between ACANA and ORIJEN, both diets reflect our belief in the importance of providing diets that are Biologically Appropriate™, using ingredients that are Fresh, Regional, and Never Outsourcing any part of the cooking or packaging of our Brands.

When comparing the 2 brands, let’s ask the 3 Meat Questions: 1. How Much Meat? ORIJEN has 85-90% Meat, while ACANA foods have 50-75%. 2. How Fresh? ORIJEN’s foods have 2/3 Fresh meats and ACANA’s have ½ fresh. 3. How Many Meats? ORIJEN foods have up to 10 meats, while ACANA’s foods feature up to 5.

Put simply, ORIJEN and ACANA foods mimic the natural eating habits of your cat or dog with high fresh meat inclusions and low inclusion of carbohydrates. Although slightly lower in protein than ORIJEN, ACANA provides an unbeatable value and price point that makes Biologically Appropriate™ pet foods accessible to a wide range of pet lovers.

Organ meats are a concentrated and natural source of virtually every nutrient your dog needs to thrive, including all essential vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and vital amino acids.

Densely packed with nearly every nutrient, including heavy doses of B vitamins, organ meats such as kidney, liver and tripe are loaded with the minerals phosphorus, iron, copper, magnesium and iodine, and provide important fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, all of which nourish dogs and cats as nature intended.

Which is why you will find amino acids, including taurine or minerals like calcium and phosphorus on the guaranteed analysis but not on the ingredient list!

ORIJEN’s fresh meat inclusions are very high. The 2 largest nutritional components of fresh meat are protein and fat. By using large inclusions of fresh meat we are able to minimize the amount of added fat in our ingredient list.

I bought Orijen because of the great ingredients. It seems impossible nowadays to find pet food that isn't loaded with "meals" and/or "by-products". Once opening the bag you can see and feel just how high quality this food is. It's so different from other cat foods I've bought. I heard about this brand originally from other ferrets owners and decided to try it for my cats. They really enjoy it, it may not be cheap but you really are buying some of the best pet diet out there. I will always recommend Orijen from now on.

  • Great Cat Food

    By on

All four of our cats love this new food. We bought it specifically for our Ragdoll who has allergies. Too soon to tell if it's helping her, but they all seem to like it. The only issue with the food is the VERY potent fish smell. But if the cats are happy, then we're happy!

  • My Siamese loves this food!

Great food. My cats have a lot of energy and bright healthy looking coats. They seem to maintain their original weight and are very active and playful. I have an older cat that prefers your cat and kitten grain free with chicken and turkey. I buy both varieties for my cats since two are fish eaters and the older cat prefers chicken and turkey.

  • My picky cat loves this

    By on

After trying to educate myself on what is the best food for my cats, I have learned that more protein and less carbs seem to be the trick. While that usually means wet food only, my picky diva girl doesn't like many wet foods. She does love this Orijen fish, however and it's higher in protein and lower in carbs than most dry foods. It's got a definite 'aroma' to it but she seems to be driven in what she eats by her sense of smell. So this food is a winner for her.

My cat loves this kibble! He can't get enough. I didn't want to feed him regular kibble because they dehydrate cats, but this along with wet food keeps him hydrated.

  • The best!!!

I have been feeding 6fish to coco for a little over a year. She is 13years, lost ten pounds and acts like a kitten again. No more bad food for either of my cats. They love 6fish.

  • WOW...JUST WOW...

This food is amazing. From the moment I opened the bag and smelled fish to watching my very senior cat gobble it up. He was eating Fromm but only a few bites and he'd walk away. Orijen even looks like a better food and Sunny is finally eating again. I'll donate the Fromm to a shelter. This is a 5 star plus!

And they only eat fish flavors... it's low calorie and rates high on every list of best foods for cats I've seen. My guys are indoor and I don't want them to gain weight. Worth the price
