I had initially ordered the pagoda fountain which was so easy to put together but it turned out to be a lemon. I called chewy and they of course were so gracious and credited my account. The person who took my call recommended this pioneer fountain in the stainless steel but my yorkie does not like stainless for some reason so I ordered one in the ceramic. After trying to make heads or tails out of this one to put it together after 45 minutes I called my husband in to do it for me. He too had problems. He finally got it together but I noticed the flow was barely going so I added more water but it still just barely came out. I know there was an adjustment on the flow so my husband took it apart to find that it was already on high so he moved the lever to medium and it had the same flow. He moved it to low and it did the same. Moved it back to high and had the same result. Chewy was so good about the pagoda I didn't want to bother them about this one. I will chock it up to a loss and will do more research on these kind of fountains. … more

  • Nice Slow Steady Steam, no spills or splashing

I got the white ceramic version. The construction of the ceramic is nice and strong, might be consider heavy for some people. It is also aesthetically pleasing and the pump is quiet. The ceramic pieces just fit by putting one piece on top, the filter/pump unit needs some small adjustment to align the slow to top ceramic piece. You must check to not overfill the water pass where the top ceramic piece fits to bottom. My setup is that I keep a bowl of clean RO water as well as this fountain nearby. My cat does drink from it but also the normal bowl too. I just hope this helps her drink more water. • A very nice fountain, but fountains may be not be liked by every pet.

I purchased this for my dog after our vet recommended a fountain to increase my pup's water intake. As far as fountains go, this one is excellent. It is nicely designed, very solid, relatively simple design, and as attractive as fountains come. Replacement filters from Chewy are very affordable. If you know your animal will use a fountain, perhaps if you already have a plastic one and are looking to upgrade, I 100% recommend this fountain. Unfortunately, my pup did not care for this fountain, but after our experience, I do not think she would like any fountain. My pup is insanely picky about her water being fresh, and I just cannot keep the fountain as clean as I can keep her bowl. My pup is insanely picky about her water being fresh, and I just cannot keep the fountain as clean as I can keep her bowl. Even if I dump out the old water and put in fresh every day, the fountain quickly developed a slimely film on all surfaces. This is even with using the brand new carbon filter. The only way to keep the slime gone was to take apart the fountain and wash all parts every day. This was just too time consuming and labor intensive to be practical. I'm not sure if the water has anything to do with this, town vs well, hard vs soft? But I can quickly and easily wipe out my pup's bowl and give her fresh water once to twice a day, and that is definitely what she prefers. … more

  • A Mixed Up Review

    By on

My cats (and a new kitten) have all used this fountain without any problems. However, it is somewhat heavy and a little awkward to clean and reassemble. We have the black and hard water minerals are impossible to remove so it's looks a little "shabby" even right after a thorough cleaning. For all that, it's a success in our house.

  • The cats have spoken

I don't usually write reviews, but I figured this one has merit. I had the Drinkwell Pagoda fountain prior to this purchase for YEARS (probably at least 5) and had a few of my cats regularly drink out of it (I have a multi-cat family). Well, after many years of faithful service, it finally gave out so I came to Chewy to purchase another one. Sadly, I couldn't find the one I really wanted so I "settled" on the Pioneer Pet (Raindrop Design), which was roughly half the cost of the Drinkwell and got decent reviews so it wasn't much of struggle to settle :). I set it up and plugged it in and "I" was instantly disappointed - it didn't have as much of the "streaming fountain" effect as my I don't usually write reviews, but I figured this one has merit. I set it up and plugged it in and "I" was instantly disappointed - it didn't have as much of the "streaming fountain" effect as my Drinkwell did and was much, much quieter than the Drinkwell (surprisingly I had gotten used to the sound of the running stream in my house that the Drinkwell had). Feeling a little disappointed that "I" wasn't as happy with it I instantly thought to myself, well, if it doesn't go over I'll just donate it to my local shelter. Not really a huge loss. So, I go about my business, gathering the trash from the box, etc and take the items out to the recycle (in the garage). Immediately upon stepping back into the house I hear the sound of a cat drinking water (my cat loving friends know that sound) so I go over to the fountain to see who's drinking out of it. To my utter surprise there are two cats drinking out of the fountain at the same time and a few others hovering around to check out the new purchase. I swear, the Drinkwell fountain NEVER had this much attention!! AND, literally within the first hour I witnessed all of my cats taking a stab at the fountain. I've had it installed now for over a week and regularly spot each cat taking a sip from it - they ALL like it!!! So, while I was not overly impressed with it, my cats LOVE it and that's all that matters in my house :) Definitely, definitely recommend … more

  • White Ceramic Fountain

    By on

This is my first fountain and I'm proud to say that my cats loved it! I got the white version to help my cats' vision to see that there's nothing in the water to fuss about. I must warn you, it did take a week for my cats to warm up to it. I had to remove their stagnant water bowls eventually to get them to move on to this one. What surprised me was the WEIGHT of this thing. Its HEAVY and very thick ceramic, so be aware!

  • Serenity and the cat is happy!

    By on

The ceramic fountain is an answer to a prayer! The other fountain I used was plastic and the design caused my cat Boots to hit the 'fall' no matter how she approached the well. Also in her efforts to avoid getting wet, there was always water on the floor around her bowl. More cleanup duties for me than bargained for. Not so with the Pioneer -- the aeration is attained without having a 'fall' and the bubbling effect for me is soothing. Boots stays dry and hydrated -- a very happy family!

  • Ceramic Fountain is the best!

    By on

I wanted a fountain water bowl for my dogs to keep their water fresh. They prefer ceramic water bowls over stainless or plastic. I didn't think I'd find a ceramic fountain but I saw this one and had to try it. I'm not disappointed. It took them about a day to start using it but once they did they haven't stopped. It's very quiet and I love how easy it is to clean. The ceramic was the right choice, I'm glad I held out until I found the right one.

  • Not Impressed

    By on

I was not impressed with this fountain. Not only did it not fit together like the picture shows, it tended to dump water all over the place off the edges of the bowl. The pump did not line up property with the top and had difficulty priming the pump. CHEWY was FANTASTIC when I contacted them with these issues! Will definitely be ordering from CHEWY again...just not this product!

  • Four paws up

My cats have had a fountain that was a different variety for several years. They love the flowing water, (several toys have have gone swimming in it as well LOL). I love the fact that this is ceramic and much easier to clean, it seems to stay cleaner than the plastic varieties. It is also heavy enough to be tip resistant, since I have one cat that loves to stand or scoop the water out of the bowl consistently. I find the gentle noise it makes relaxing as well.
