Description

For cats with kidney problems, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Feline Formula offers balanced nutrition to help support the kidneys. NF is formulated with low sodium, phosphorus and protein to help reduce the workload on the kidneys and help cats with kidney problems feel better. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult cat's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Kidney disease can occur in cats of all ages, but it normally appears in that of older pets. It can't be cured, but with proper treatment and dietary management you can help make your cat much more comfortable.
  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease.
  • Restricted amounts of high-quality protein, low phosphorus levels, and a reduction in sodium all help reduce the workload on the kidneys. Added B-complex vitamins help to protect the body and break down nutrients.
  • Designed for cats with chronic renal failure, hepatic disease associated with encephalopathy, or any condition that benefits from restricted sodium levels.
  • Made in the USA!

The write-up about the details of this food says it's minced. It's not. It's pate, which my cat hates. This was the last one I thought might work for his kidney condition. There are no more options. So now it's pretty much ordained that he'll eat his regular Fancy Feast and will go sooner rather than later, I guess. I wish someone would make a kidney-prescription food that was truly minced and in a gravy. But the description of this food needs to be changed to pate.

  • cat needs it, cat loves it

we have a 21-year-old cat with kidney trouble. a low-protein diet was prescribed by our vet, and Purina NF is the only one he would eat. our vet does not stock NF (special-order only), so it's great we are able to get our order filled by Chewy. the price on Chewy is better too. note: not only does our senior cat like the NF, but our other (much younger) cat also loves it ... so it seems to be a good option.

  • A hit!

My cat has polycystic kidney disease so needed that diet food. She wouldn't eat KD, so I tried this. At first I was dismayed that the wet food only comes in 5.5 oz cans. With only one cat eating it, I knew I'd have to store uneaten food in the frig. She ate it at first offering, a miracle since she is so picky. I ended up adding more water to it because it has a real solid consistency. But regardless, she'll eat it even cold from the frig. So great!

  • Has cat appeal

14 year old cat was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in August 2016 and vet recommended switching to all prescription wet food. She like the Royal Canin 3oz cans but was unable to maintain a healthy weight on that exclusive diet. She ate a combination of Purina ONE wet and dry for most of her life and the Purina prescription dry food is the only one she will eat. I ordered the cans to see how she liked them. She seems to prefer the Royal Canin wet food but eats these on occasion for variety. They are too large for her to finish, I've tried refrigerating the leftover but I usually ending up throwing some out. Please make the 3 oz cans! Otherwise, I recommend for picky cats.

  • Our Cat Enjoys It

Our cat had surgery for a constricted esophagus and can only eat soft foods. The vet recommended we feed him a mixture of the Purina Pro Plan NJ and Clinicare (a liquid). Fortunately he can get that down and really seems to like it.

  • My kitten likes it!

My veterinarian seems to prefer that my kitten eat more canned food than dry with her particular problem. I am happy to report that she is happily eating this kidney function formula by Purina. I adopted her in October only to find out that she has stage 2 kidney disease (genetic). Chloe is now about 10 months old and doing well. I am extremely grateful to Purina for making this food available to us.

  • My cat loves this food!

When Aby was diagnosed with renal disease we were given a couple different brands of specialized renal formula food to try...unfortunately she didn't like either, the wet or the dry. My vet recommended Purina Pro Plan Veterinary NF and Aby has been eating it ever since. It was an answer to our prayers! Little Miss Aby had not eaten anything to speak of in a couple of weeks, she needed nutrition! We are very happy and Aby has put on a couple of pounds. Thank you Chewy.com for making it so convenient to purchase online, our vet is a two hour drive from our home.

  • Great price. Easy purchase.

My doctor recommended this food for my ailing cat. It's a prescription food---so it's necessary to either get it from a Vet or have a prescription to buy it. Chewy made this very easy. They contacted my Vet and took care of everything. A bonus: it's much cheaper at Chewy!!! Love these people.

  • Kitty Did Not Like....

    By on

Well, I was hoping my kitty with very early stage CKD would take to this food....as I had already tried Science Diet and Royal Canin prescription food. But...she did not like this at all. I even gave a can to a friend of mine whose cat also has CKD....and her cat would not eat it either. I'm sure it is good food with all the right research behind it for kidney kitties...but it is unpalatable for some kitties....sadly, including mine.

  • Finicky cat eats it up

    By on

Our 10.5 cat was recently diagnosed with the first stages of kidney disease and we tried K/D at first, but he rejected it after a couple weeks. We had been feeding both of our kitties Purina so we were happy to find that Purina made a prescription kidney diet for cats. Our kitties LOVE it so much. And our finicky cat eats the wet food several times a day. He loves the dry food too. I only wish that there were more flavors for the wet food.
