Description

For cats with kidney problems, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Feline Formula offers balanced nutrition to help support the kidneys. NF is formulated with low sodium, phosphorus and protein to help reduce the workload on the kidneys and help cats with kidney problems feel better. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult cat's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Kidney disease can occur in cats of all ages, but it normally appears in that of older pets. It can't be cured, but with proper treatment and dietary management you can help make your cat much more comfortable.
  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease.
  • Restricted amounts of high-quality protein, low phosphorus levels, and a reduction in sodium all help reduce the workload on the kidneys. Added B-complex vitamins help to protect the body and break down nutrients.
  • Designed for cats with chronic renal failure, hepatic disease associated with encephalopathy, or any condition that benefits from restricted sodium levels.
  • Made in the USA!

  • Another Failed Kidney Diet

    By on

For anyone who has a CKD cat, this is almost the worst disease I think any of our kitties could be diagnosed with. I have spent $100s on food to get my little man to eat including all the prescription diets and, at this point, anything that is non-prescription. Purina NF was, unfortunately, another failure. It's hard as a rock and no matter whether I let it sit at room temperature, serve it cold, serve it warm, mash it up with water, cut it into chunks, sprinkle FortiFlora to entice him, add chicken broth...he would NOT eat it! A very expensive case of food for something that my cat won't even lick to try, but simply turns his nose up at and ignores it completely. Frustrating! As one reviewer has said, I am beginning to believe there is no such thing as a truly palatable kidney diet. As another reviewer said, WHY are there not more kidney diets that are minced or chunked? Not all cats like pate! … more

  • Start 'em Young!

    By on

My two elderly cats (19+ and 18+) are both in very early renal disease. Our vet suggested putting them on a kidney diet, but that requires them to eat food that isn't as tasty as the salt-filled regular stuff they have insisted we feed them. They turned their noses up at this immediately and, while we could give them no options, at their ages, we just don't have the heart. They've lived good, long lives and we just want them to eat and not claw us to death in our sleep. Any new cats that may be in our future will start out with a blander low-salt diet so any transition to function-specific food will be easier.

  • Good for him, but not his favorite.

    By on

I know this is a good product because we used it for a cat who had kidney problems in the past. Our cat, Sam, doesn't particularly like this food or the special food we got from the vet. It helps to offer him a choice. Some diet foods just can't be made as tasty as foods for cats with no dietary restrictions. I wish we could explain to him why he had his diet changed. Of course if I were put on a bland diet I wouldn't like it even though a doctor could explain to me why it was necessary.

  • Finicky eater does a nose dive

My beautiful and loving kitty now needs an RX food. We tried out 4 different brands, and this is the one she dove into, to eat of course, right away. It also works for her when I need to give her liquid medication, mixed in. Thank you Purina NF!

  • My Cat did not like this food.

When I ordered this food for the first time, my cat ate the food well. After two shipments, he was no longer eating the food and essentially making a mess instead of eating the food. We have switched brands.

My cat Chloe now 18 has been on the NF diet for years and she gobbles it up and is doing great. I think Chewy is fantastic! My order was at my door the very next day after ordering and packaged perfectly!

  • This is one of two my cat will eat

    By on

My cat really needs the low protein and phosphorus cat food, but will not eat the veterinary diets except for this and one other. I had to place a small amount in the dish and cover it with the kitty krack to start with, but now she's eating it mixed in, thank goodness!

  • Dr. Recommend

This was recommended for my 11 year old cat, Mady. She's learning to make the change to this food. It's going to take some time. But it's better for her kidneys!

  • my cats love it

I had tried the dry and they ate it but only because they didn't have anything else. They love the can and I can see that the weight loss has stopped.
