Description

For cats with kidney problems, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Feline Formula offers balanced nutrition to help support the kidneys. NF is formulated with low sodium, phosphorus and protein to help reduce the workload on the kidneys and help cats with kidney problems feel better. It offers dietary benefits that provide optimal nutrition while meeting your adult cat's special needs.

Key Benefits

  • Kidney disease can occur in cats of all ages, but it normally appears in that of older pets. It can't be cured, but with proper treatment and dietary management you can help make your cat much more comfortable.
  • Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease.
  • Restricted amounts of high-quality protein, low phosphorus levels, and a reduction in sodium all help reduce the workload on the kidneys. Added B-complex vitamins help to protect the body and break down nutrients.
  • Designed for cats with chronic renal failure, hepatic disease associated with encephalopathy, or any condition that benefits from restricted sodium levels.
  • Made in the USA!

  • 17 year old cat is thriving on this!

    By on

I have 17 year old cat that was losing weight. The vet said at her age it was not advisable to run a lot of tests on her. He said that kidney function decreases with the age of the cat. Instead, the vet suggested I try Kidney function foods for her. I bought and tried all of the brands that the vet had in his office. This is the one that the cat LOVES!!! She is a small cat - 5 lbs and you could feel her ribs. She loves this canned cat food and I can no longer feel her ribs!!! Her fur has improved tremendously also! Her fur is now shiny and she is not shedding as much. She is overall much healthier! I am buying a bag of the dry NF cat food to try on her. I highly recommend this!!!!!

  • My Cat Loves It

My autoship originally included Science Diet k/d food. My cat had decided he wasn't very fond of this food about the same time my shipment arrived. I called at ask about returning that food and getting the Purina NF. The representative who assisted me was wonderful. She immediately credited my account for the food I would not use and processed my order for the NF. I appreciated this customer service.

  • Got urine under control, and he'll eat it.

Patrick is an altered male red tabby, 18 years old, but in great health. I inherited him, he used to be an outdoor cat, but is now indoor, but will go outdoor on a harness and leash for a walkie. As he came under my watch, his diet changed to the high quality, high protein food that my other cat eats. The vet took blood for analysis for his hyperthryoidism, for which he is on meds, and came back that his change in food (high protein) was making his kidneys work overtime, not good for his age, and he needed the NF prescription food. Now this cat had been urinating to the point where I was going through litter like nobody's business (two cats live in separate areas, separate litter pans.) Now this cat had been urinating to the point where I was going through litter like nobody's business (two cats live in separate areas, separate litter pans.) I thought, how can this be? he's peeing like a race horse. Did some research, and discovered this excessive urinating is a symptom of overworked kidneys; it's called polyuria. It's a result of the body's inability to regulate urine formation. So bought the ProPlan NF and now his urine is much more normal. He eats it readily enough right out of the can (in a dish of course) and all is well, until the next vet visit. I'll give it 5 stars. … more

  • Life Saver

I was having a lot of trouble getting my fairly advanced CKD kitty to eat. We were doing Hill's k/d, and he liked it at first, and then quit eating it. I had to jump through hoops to coax him to eat it. Now, he gets excited for his Purina NF. It's a pretty solid looking pate, which my kitty normally doesn't like. I mix a little hot water with it to soften and warm it, and he goes nuts. If you're having trouble getting your cat to eat, I highly suggest trying a different brand of kidney function food.

  • Pretty good

    By on

By itself, my cat won't eat it. If I mix in a little canned friskies and some warm water (the NF is not very moist) the smell seems to entice her. I'm hoping that I can add less and less friskies over time and maybe she'll get accustomed to it. At least she likes it better than canned KD & Royal canin.

  • Cat's didn't like it

    By on

My oldest cat has kidney disease he's 18 the other is 14 so it's good for her to eat kidney food also. This one neither of them touched at all even left if out for an hour to see if they would eat it and not at all. The consistency is good for a pate though.

  • Purina Pro Plan Vet Diet NF food

    By on

Great product for cats who need special food. Vet prescribed NF food- both wet and dry- in years past was very unpalatable for my pets at that time and made mealtimes miserable for them. This new generation of Purina Vet Diet NF food, again both wet and dry, is wonderful and my present pets love it and want to eat it. This makes everyone happy.

This veterinary RX food is helping keep my 17 year old cat alive. Chewy delivered it as soon as they got the RX from my Vet. It was fast and easy to get the food. Best of all I did not have to travel to my Vet to get it. Thank you Chewy.

  • Kitty eats it in intervals

    By on

My very finicky 17 1/2 year old female kitty needed some encouragement to eat this food. First I mixed it with Fancy Feast UTI (1:3). After 3 days I left the FF out and she ate practically nothing. Then I started with 0.05ml UROMAXX Bladder/Kidneycontrol. Cranberry-base) w/o FF, to give the very bland food some kick and since then she eats it without delay. Am very much surprised. Give this product only 4* because I'd like cans of 3oz. These 5.5 oz last much too long.

  • kaytee says YES

    By on

kaytee has been a kidney diet patient since jan '17. I've tried several other brands and flavors of the renal failure diet and she either hates it or only eats a few mouth fulls. this flavor and brand seems to be a hit and she consistently cleans her bowl. she goes in for a check up in two weeks, so it is my hope that her weight finally goes up and her kidney values are in an acceptable range. chewy.com has the best price around on this product but it is still kind of expensive which is the reason for only 4 stars.
