Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Wonderful food

    By on

Tried this food on the advice of our vet. Our cat had not been eating well and we were concerned..scared actually.. started him on this and he loves it!! We are happy and so is he! One thing we have noticed is that the Royal Canin smells so much better and as my husband says it doesn't stink up our kitchen!

  • Easy switch

My cats prefer Friskies Fancy Feast Pate. I also give them dry food. With Royal Canin they stopped throwing up almost daily. One cat is old, and we are still testing the kidney function.

  • Purrrfect!

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

This is purrrfect food for my 9 yr. old girl, Mary Sunshine! She loves the food and I like that she's getting more moisture in her diet. I've also noticed that her fur is softer and she sheds less. Normally this is the time of year when she would shed more. So far, so good!

  • My cat loves it

Vet recommended starting to give our 8 year old Ragdoll canned food for extra moisture. He hated all until we tried the the thin slices/gravy. Service from Chewy is the best!

  • Decision pending.

    By on

This is not my decision but rather that of my cat and so far I am not sure whether he likes it. He slurps up the sauce and leaves some of the food and hasn't shown any great enthusiasm for it but he's only had a few cans so far. I will have a better idea about his decision after he's had further servings of the food.

My two boys will eat just about anything, but this particular Royal Canin did not wow them, surprisingly because this line is one of their favorites .

  • Good product for sensitive tummies

    By on

My cat gets loose stools once in a while (after some big changes like family travel, etc). So I keep them handy. Great product for sensitive kitties.

  • Cats won't eat it

My cats are on Royal Canin prescription dry food and they love it so I thought they'd eat the canned food. They take a few bites and walk away.

  • Cats Eat It

    By on

Royal Canin is my cat food of choice. I have fed the dry food always to my cats. They love it and I have tried several types. I decided to try the canned Instinctive + 7 due to my previous experiences with Royal Canin. One of my cats is overweight and I want him to lose weight. I was told canned food was the best way. The cat seems to be losing but it's too early to tell. The problem is that both my cats do not eat the entire portion. I give them a 3 oz can for both and split it into four portions, which I feed spaced two hours apart. Both cats eat a bit during each of the feedings but leave about half uneaten. I end up throwing out about half of a 3 oz can. This is expensive. I imagine it's Royal Canin is my cat food of choice. I have fed the dry food always to my cats. I will keep feeding to see if the fat cat loses the weight and will then switch back to dry food, which I never have to throw out. … more
