Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Kitty Loves It + A Quality Product

During the first two months I had my kitten Socrates, I tried every grain-free kitten food on the market. He turned his cute little nose up at every single one. I tried every trick in the book to make him eat. I researched, I begged, I emailed a cat behaviorist for tips and nothing seemed to work. A friend encouraged me to stop being the "perfect" pet parent, and to find a healthy alternative that worked for both me and Socrates. Enter Royal Canin. Socrates loves it, he has started waking me up every morning just a few minutes before my alarm clock goes off to be fed Royal Canin. And I feel comfortable giving it to him because it is still a high quality food. • Bayley Loves it

    By on

We got Bayley at 3 months old she was a stray kitten. We brought her into our home and started feeding her Royal Canin Thin Slices and loaf as well as the Royal Canin dry food. This is the only food we have feed her. She loves it all. We sometimes mix the wet with dry and sometimes give it to her separate either way she loves it. Bayley is a great kitten now 7 mths old she is an indoor cat that has been neutered and she has the softest and shiniest fur. I will continue to use this food for her its perfect

  • Royal Canin for Royal Kitties

    By on

My cats think they're royalty and they love this stuff. They prefer the kitten instinctive thin slices over the kitten instinctive loaf. I just wish that Royal Canin had this in 5.8 oz as well, but it's only available in 3 oz.

  • New kitty really loves it!

    By on

So each cat is different, but my 5 month old kitty really likes the slices with gravy. It has a lot of moisture which is needed for male cats. It doesn't smell bad and what is most important is Casey loves it!! Couldn't get him to eat pate but this he loves. Hard to find good quality kitty food.

  • My Fina loves this food

    By on

My 4 1/2 month old kitten devoured this food. I mix half a can with 1/4 cup of dry food in the morning and evening. She cleans her bowl within half an hour. I'm going to try this brand in dry food as well. Highly recommended this food and this site chewy!

  • The best kitten food

    By on

I adopted two kittens at about 10 weeks old. Tried a couple different kitten foods which they happily devoured but they upset their tummies. This one is the best and I now order it by the case.

  • Kitten Likes It

    By on

Our one kitten is a fan of Royal Canin. We purchased this food because it was the food she ate prior to joining our family. The plan was to transition her to our homemade food. She no longer wants this food but our second kitten decided she likes it. Their primary food is the homemade food, but this is served as an added treat.

  • Trying to keep weight on my 18 year old

Linus loves it right out of the can. Noticed he was doing well when eating kitten food. Put weight back on his bony frame and gave him some energy so I intersperse this with a hairball one.

  • New kitten loves this!

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I just adopted a kitten from the rescue I volunteer for. They suggested another brand of kitten food, but Tigerlily didn't really like it much. I bought a few single cans of different kitten food at my local store. She loved this one. So I purchased a case from Chewy. It's not really slices, but not pate. Sort of like it was put through a cheese grater, tiny morsels. I will definitely buy this again until the end of her kitten hood.
