Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

Why Pure Breed Cats Need Tailored Nutrition

Even though pedigree cats are usually kept indoors, they may have breed-specific needs that go beyond the needs of other indoor cats. It's important to address those needs with specialized nutrition. When choosing a formula, keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed, including:

Face and Jaw: Pure breed cats come in many different jaw shapes and sizes. Some breeds have broad jaws (like Ragdolls) while others have large, square-shaped jaws (like Maine Coons) or flat, short jaws (like Persians). The jaw type and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.

Skin Types: Not all cat breeds have the same body type. Some have long and muscular physiques while others have imposing statures that can put strain on joints. Precise levels of key nutrients help support a breed's unique needs for their body type.

Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From different hair lengths to undercoats, each pure breed cat has a unique coat with unique needs.

Breed Specific Formulas

Every cat is unique - especially pure breed cats. After years of research and partnering with a network of veterinarians and breeders, Royal Canin has developed a line of tailor-made formulas to suit the needs of pure breed cats perfectly.

Formulated for Maine Coons

Royal Canin's Maine Coon Dry Cat Food is designed for Maine Coon cats over 15 months old.

Healthy heart: Maine Coon Dry Cat Food contains nutrients such as taurine, EPA and DHA, which may contribute to cardiac health.

Bone & joint health: Maine Coons are the tallest and heaviest of pure breed cats. Their imposing stature can put a strain on joints. This formula is enriched with Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to help maintain healthy bones and joints.

Healthy skin & coat: Maine Coons have a dense coat with a fine undercoat. This formula includes a combination of amino acids, vitamins and fatty acids (Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids) to help maintain skin and coat health.

Exclusive Kibble

Maine Coon Dry Cat Food features a king-size tailor-made kibble that's adapted to Maine Coons' unique, large squared-shaped jaw, encouraging them to chew.

Why Royal Canin?

Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.

Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

We have 3 Maine Coon kitties and they love this food. I love that it is so nutritious. My oldest kitty is 13; other than being a bit grumpy and self-centered, she is in excellent health!!

My cats a Maine Coon boy and a domestic short hair girl, didn't take to it at first. They kept eating the old kibble (Authority Turkey) from their kibble tower. After about a week the large bowl I had set down of Royal Canin kibble was gone. After that, it seemed to be all they eat. I like that the larger round kibbles make them chew it up rather than all other kibble they can just swallow with 1 bite. I know have Beyond Whitefish & Egg in their bowl and they eat that rater well, still not touching the Authority. I think they just don't care for Turkey. I know Beyond has really good stuff for cats in it. It's funny how some stuff like soy is good for humans but potentially harmful to My cats a Maine Coon boy and a domestic short hair girl, didn't take to it at first. • My Maine Coon loves it.

Large pieces seem to be what my cat likes best and he now chews his food instead of swallowing small bits. He likes the taste better than his last brand.

  • Great food

My Maine Coon will only eat this besides her canned food she gets with her LLysine. I've tried to switch to more limited ingredient foods, but she refuses, so I'm not going to push her. She prefers the big bites, plus it's good to keep her teeth clean.

  • Your Maine Coon cats will love this product!

We needed to wean 2 Maine Coon 16-month old kittens from Royal Canin dry kitten food and expected to do it over a couple of months. They liked the adult food so much they picked it out and left the kitten food so after 2 weeks, we gave up and started with the adult only. One of the 2 would chew on things like water faucets and stopped once he had the large kibble to chomp on so this product had an added side benefit!

  • Maine Coons love it!

    By on

Our Vet/groomer recommended Canin dry food for our two year old Maine Coons. The morsels are larger - about the size of a blueberry. The cats have to chew this food well, so they crunch crunch crunch! Apparently Maine Coons have a tendency to swallow their food whole. This recipe is made to nourish strong muscles and bones and a shiny coat, typical of the large Maine Coon breed. Both our cats love it and did from day ONE. It's now the only dry food offered. It's more expensive but I think the best for them.
