Why Pure Breed Cats Need Tailored Nutrition

Even though pedigree cats are usually kept indoors, they may have breed-specific needs that go beyond the needs of other indoor cats. It's important to address those needs with specialized nutrition. When choosing a formula, keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed, including:

Face and Jaw: Pure breed cats come in many different jaw shapes and sizes. Some breeds have broad jaws (like Ragdolls) while others have large, square-shaped jaws (like Maine Coons) or flat, short jaws (like Persians). The jaw type and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.

Skin Types: Not all cat breeds have the same body type. Some have long and muscular physiques while others have imposing statures that can put strain on joints. Precise levels of key nutrients help support a breed's unique needs for their body type.

Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From different hair lengths to undercoats, each pure breed cat has a unique coat with unique needs.

Breed Specific Formulas

Every cat is unique - especially pure breed cats. After years of research and partnering with a network of veterinarians and breeders, Royal Canin has developed a line of tailor-made formulas to suit the needs of pure breed cats perfectly.

Formulated for Maine Coons

Royal Canin's Maine Coon Dry Cat Food is designed for Maine Coon cats over 15 months old.

Healthy heart: Maine Coon Dry Cat Food contains nutrients such as taurine, EPA and DHA, which may contribute to cardiac health.

Bone & joint health: Maine Coons are the tallest and heaviest of pure breed cats. Their imposing stature can put a strain on joints. This formula is enriched with Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to help maintain healthy bones and joints.

Healthy skin & coat: Maine Coons have a dense coat with a fine undercoat. This formula includes a combination of amino acids, vitamins and fatty acids (Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids) to help maintain skin and coat health.

Exclusive Kibble

Maine Coon Dry Cat Food features a king-size tailor-made kibble that's adapted to Maine Coons' unique, large squared-shaped jaw, encouraging them to chew.

Why Royal Canin?

Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.

Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ginger loves it! Our Maine Coon, Ginger, loves it. The kibble is big, to accommodate their larger jaws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maine Coon's Love as much as catnip! My Komodo has been gobbling up 1/2-3/4 cup per day and his coat is shiny but more importantly, he has very little tartar build up on teeth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Both my cats love this larger nugget dry catfood I have one Maine Coon and a short-hair tuxedo, both indoor-only cats. I mix three types of Royal Canin dry cat food: this one (Maine Coon), Indoor Beauty, and Indoor Adult 27. The "boys" love it. Even the smaller non-Maine Coon likes these larger nuggets. I figure this helps both cats' dental health, as well, per the larger nuggets and the extra chewing they have to do. My Maine Coon, at 19 pounds, enthusiastically goes for these larger kibbles; however, he won't eat them alone, preferring the dry Royal Canin mix I give both cats...that is, when he is not hauling around large rolls of toilet tissue (he "decorates" with tissue) and my husband's shoes (these cats are more like dogs)! I've noticed that one or two of these kibbles is/are often made into a cat toy (until one of the cats eats it, that is)! I will definitely stay with this Maine Coon Royal Canin dry cat food...both cats love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Your Maine Coon cats will love this product! We needed to wean 2 Maine Coon 16-month old kittens from Royal Canin dry kitten food and expected to do it over a couple of months. They liked the adult food so much they picked it out and left the kitten food so after 2 weeks, we gave up and started with the adult only. One of the 2 would chew on things like water faucets and stopped once he had the large kibble to chomp on so this product had an added side benefit!
