Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. • High protein, made with lots of liver, cats give it thumbs up

We (AKA 2 cats & myself) like the New Formula: Water Sufficient For Processing [gravy], Chicken By-Products, Chicken Liver, Pork Liver, Pork By-Products, Wheat Gluten, Gelatin, Powdered Cellulose, Natural Flavors, Pork Plasma, Wheat Flour, Modified Corn Starch, and then a whole list of the vitamins and minerals. So it is a lot of meat and liver to make a tiny finely sliced paté and then the ingredients necessary to make the nice thick gravy. No corn, rice, or cheap fillers. A lot of moisture 84%, but you need that for gravy, plus it's good to get some fluid into their systems, and 9% protein ( I should only eat such a healthy diet.) Since cats are obligate carnivores, this is pretty near perfect in my book. … more

  • Didn't satisfy their hunger

    By on

I have two siamese brothers about three years old and they usually want a little snack about every 4 hours after the main meal. After splitting a 3 oz. can in the morning of the light Royal Canin they were hungary within 2 hours, it didn't work they were hungary and let me know that. I'm trying to keep their weight in check with both wet and dry Canin products along with regular wet Intense Beauty. The cost is up their so I did expect a better outcome They did like the taste but it come up short as too meet their hunger needs.

  • Cats don't like it

    By on

It could just be that my cats are picky, but my 5 cats don't like this even mixed with their favorite Fancy Feast or Little Friskies soft food. They will eat the prescription Royal Canin soft food with high fiber/low cals, but not this.

  • I love that my cats love this!

    By on

Our two cats agree that Royal Canin food is the best...and the food "agrees" with them...it is easily digested and tolerated! This ultra light choice must be just as tasty as any of the Royal Canin foods. Shadow, who needs to trim down a little, really seems to like it!

  • Helps with weight control

    By on

My cats prefer Friskies Fancy Feast Pate. I also give them dry food. With Royal Canin they stopped throwing up almost daily. One cat is old, and we are still testing the kidney function. Also seems like one cat lost weight.

  • Picky cat loves it

    By on

Even my picky cat loves this stuff, she normally won't eat anything that isn't mostly fish. I'm worried that my cats eat too much fish so I have tried dozens of different healthy foods in chicken, duck, beef, lamb, turkey and even venison. I like that this one is chicken. So far it has been the biggest success, and as an added benefit, it helps my little chunkos lose those last few pounds. :) I wish it didn't have byproducts so high on the ingredients list though.

  • My Felines Agree...

    By on

Both my kitties really like this stuff. They love the gravy most of all but still manage to eat most of the chunky bits too. They both are on a diet and this is the first canned food I've ever fed them and I'm really glad they both are eating it. Time will tell if this stuff works and they actually start losing weight.

  • Happy Kitty!

Rigsby is a little on the portly side so I have been feeding him this food in hopes that he will lose a few pounds. He loves the food and I think he is slowly losing some weight, so it is a win/win.
