The Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Calm formula is designed for cats. It include two amino acids that help pets maintain emotional balance. Alpha-casozepine is an amino acid chain derived from milk shown to have calming effects. L-tryptophan  is a more commonly known amino acid that also has calming effects. In addition, the formulas include Nicotinamide, also known as Vitamin B3. Nicotinamide creates a calming effect within the central nervous system.

Key Benefits

  • Contains a hydrolyzed milk protein and tryptophan (anaminoacid) to help maintain emotional balance of the cat
  • Precise amounts of B vitamins and amino acids to help maintain the skin's natural barrier effect
  • Specific nutrient blend to help regulate intestinal transit and to help support beneficial digestive flora
  • This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalatecrystals

Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent, costly but GOOD I initially was given this food because my cat was suffering from excessive allergies (itching/scratching/losing hair on paws) and a jealous attitude towards a homeless cat that I feed outside the house. The vet recommended that I change my ways and feed the stray cat at the side of the house and not right out front. Well, I did that and I also started using the calm food as recommended. My cat stopped the itching within 3 days of only feeding him calm. My cat liked this food from the start, I did not have to mix it with his old dry food. It also does not have a strong order as the N/D Royal Canin food does. The only thing is sometimes my cat eats fast and throws up so I just want to warn you if your cat does that, give him/her smaller portions instead of larger portions. I will continue to buy this food until I can find a good replacement at a cheaper price. September 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Repeated Success A few years ago, after medication did not affect our alpha female from marking, our vet suggested this food. Boom!! In less than 2 weeks she completely stopped marking and picking on our other kitties! After a few months we switched her back to her usual IAMS dry food and have not had the problem since then. We took in a sweet little female stray who was in our backyard for a couple of years. She was tame and we brought her in at night to sleep with us. No problem, right? Well, she got into rat poison at our neighbor's and she fell ill. We now had the task of making her an indoor kitty. She was not doing well with this, so we put her on this food and the transition is going so much better! It is still a work in progress with her, but she is adjusting and finally allowing us to sleep at night without crying at the doors and windows all night. Our other kitties eat this food, too, including our previously mentioned alpha female who did not welcome another girl into the house. Buy this if your cat needs help with any type of emotional adjustments to their environment or the introduction of a new pet. It works! July 25, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Something my cat has to eat This prescription cat food, Calm, is what my cat has to eat to stop him from hurting people and other cats. He has a mean nasty temperament and this food keeps him.......calm! September 15, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by It's not overnight I have one heck of a stray cat so what I really need is a miracle or I have to lower my expectations. Before the food (2 weeks ago) I couldn't touch her and she would charge me passing in the hallway. Now I can pet her in certain places and she sleeps with me. Im hopeful its a cumulative effect.... Stay tuned. Overall it's helps but it's not an overnight thing September 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Helped settle feral so she actually came to me to let me pet her. I do rescue and TNR so I often have scared feral cats and kittens that I am caring for on top of my 6 feral converts that I have. I have spent thousands trying every available products over the years trying to help calm cats under my care. Defusors in every plug in, sprays and chewies and calming collsrs and coats. Ive even used prescribed meds over the years. I had been reading on this product wanting to try it and finally got my vet to authorize prescription. I started with my 3, 8 month old ferals that I am fosterring. I saw a difference rather quickly. Heard their purring and then after only a few short days Mitzy a feral that I had never been able to pet allowed me to pet her. That same day I had my vet authorize scripts for all my cats to switch over. I am happy customer. It cant turn them into pets but it is a useful tool that helps me work with them. Another good thing is that all the cats love the food. Something that never happens in my household. I want to share that the distributor actually gave me my first bag free because she heard I was trialing it with ferals. I thought that was nice. I love this product and now because Chewy has the best prices Im getting script to start ordering it through autoship. July 15, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by royal canin Vet Diet calm formula We purchased this food for our orange tabby Butterfinger. He is usually a fairly docile guy, however not riding in the car. We tried most everything including medication. We did not like the meds they made him really out of it. So we thought to try the calm formula. So far it has done a decent job. He still is not happy about riding in the car but he calms down after a bit and settles down. We take trips that last up to 6 hours, so he calms down after about one hour. Much better then six hours of meowing. May 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by both cats like it Only dry food they haven't thrown up. But I do limit their intake. I like for them to have dry food available all day to graze but haven't found one they don't throw up when I do that. I haven't tryed doing it with this one. May 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Helps Calm a Nervous Kitty The food has helped our cat. He is calmer and doesn't seem upset when left alone. He is a picky eater, but gobbles this dry food down. May 11, 2016
