Feeding guides are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weigh your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Well accepted by diabetic cat

I was pleased at how much our diabetic cat enjoys this food. I am not impressed with the primary ingredients, Chicken Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Soy Protein Isolate, Ground Corn, and Barley. I'd hoped that a high protein real meat based product would work, but we are having too much trouble with insulin not controlling his blood glucose and decided to follow our vet's recommendation to try Glycobalance. Main drawback is trying to keep his tubby brother out of the bowl. I wish it came in a larger, cheaper per pound bag.

  • Cheddar is Better :)

    By on

Thanks to a quick response from Chewy for our new diet prescription, our sweet orange tabby is getting better. He had lost 3 pounds and was diagnosed with diabetes. He loves his new food! I believe we all fear that our pets will not like change but, as we transition him with a mix of his old food with the new, Cheddar picks out the new dry food from the old urinary dry food. Smart boy. Thanks, Chewy for being so polite and caring as you process all of our requests.

  • The best food for diabetic kitties

    By on

I started feeding my chunky 19 lb. orange and white boy this food about 9 months ago and I am so glad I did! He used to be 21 lbs. and I think the weight loss is due to the food and it helping to regulate his sugar. He still has a good appetite and prefers dry food to wet so it was really important to find something he would eat that also had nutrition I could trust. I'm thrilled--chubby kitties aren't usually finicky too, but he is.

My cat has multiple medical conditions and has been on prescription food for most of his life. Having a history of urinary blockages, it's great that this diet is s/o indexed. My cat went off insulin within months of this food change. He's an underweight cat so it's hard to keep weight on him but he has enjoyed this food and hasn't lost weight refusing to eat or anything like that.

  • My boys love it!

My 10 year old cat just became diabetic and the vet recommended this food. Wow was I surprised. Both cats love this food and I couldn't be happier. I've also noticed my cat isn't throwing up anymore. I'll continue buying this and hope my other cats blood sugar levels stay healthy too.

My cat is so picky and is diabetic. She ate some oceany wet food for a bit but this was the first dry food I could find for diabetic cats. She loves it and is very content. She no longer looks for our other cats dry food that is not good for her. Happy!

  • Food for diabetic cat.

    By on

My vet prescribed this food for my borderline diabetic cat. My cat, of course, doesn't like it. We are in the process of increasing the amount put in with her regular food in hopes she will eventually eat it plain.

  • Great Diabetic Food

My poor cat Chewy is 11 years, over weight and diabetic. So along with two insulin shots a day we also feed him the Royal Canin Glycobalance cat food that his vet prescribed. Between the insulin and the food Chewy has lost a little weight but more importantly his diabetes is under control. The best part about getting this food from Chewy.com is we have it on autosend so every month we will get a new bag. This is so convenient for us because the pet store we have to buy it from isn't close to us and even with the shipping cost it's still cheaper than it is at the pet store. I'm very happy about this!
