Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Feline Urinary SO is a complete and balanced diet for adult cats to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis, recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths.
  • Royal Canin Urinary SO Index® promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Urinary SO Dry Cat Food is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 734.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chewy Is my choice from now on no more going to the store to find out they are out of it My cat was going outside the box I found out she had Kidney problems. This product fixed that and she has not gone outside the box for over four years now. This is the only food she gets other than one can of wet food and same brand (yes they carry the wet stuff as well) a week which I add more water to it. You need a script for this but your vet will give you one if it is found that your kitty needs it. I was going to the store to pick this up but I was running low on it and the store said they did not know when it would be in. So I came home checked on line and found Chew.com Wow!!! It comes right to my door! LOVE it no more guessing or calling to find out if it is in stock just order and it comes what more can you ask for well the cost is cheaper here as well. Wish I would have done this 4 years ago so much better than going to the store having to carry it to the car then into the house. I am happy and so is my Kitty. Before she started on this I thought I would have to get rid of her but now all is well she is going in the box and not screaming in pain happy Kitty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vet recommended Our vet recommended this particular one for our kitty’s urinary track problems. This special dry food seems to work the best for the urinary health; few people had told me that the same type of dry food from Science Diet didn’t work at all. It’s about a couple of months has passed since we had started feeding our kitty this special food, and fortunately, he seems to be almost back to normal. We are going to continue feeding this for several more months to be sure. This product is quite expensive to us, and we were lucky that we had a 20% discount CHEWY.com coupon, which is a lot, compare to purchasing exact the same one at the vet office. Actually, we had a hard time finding this particular product online. We were very pleased when we found out that our favorite online pet store CHEWY.com carries this one! Thank you very much, CHEWY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working but be aware makes cats very thirsty The stress of being kept indoors and a feud with his 2 siblings likely caused one of our cats to develop both types of urinary crystals (oxalate and struvite) and caused a total UT blockage. After the vet stay he was placed on this food 3 months ago. All 3 cats share this food now, they are also given a grain-free option (which I know is not recommended but I have my reasons). The initial passing of stones as they broke down was of course painful for all 3 cats. The one thing that bothers me is that this food is full of a kind of salt which is intended to make the cats drink and urinate a lot...and I mean a LOT. Never, never let your cat be without =fresh= water for =any= length of time while on this diet, which, by the way, is recommended to be their permanent diet. The food works, but I have mixed feelings about its use long-term; I've swapped one problem for another. With the new diet all the cats have begun urinating and spraying everywhere in the house, though I've been changing their boxes much more frequently, added another box, changed their litter, and just added kitty pheromone therapy...ugh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm Please and so is MyTinny My little girl is the most fussy cat I have ever had. She will not eat people food, and this includes chicken. How odd is that? The only can food she will eat is everything the vet says she can no longer have. Swell! After her second expensive bout with cystitis my vet said she has to eat this. Thank goodness she loves the dry as I know she will not eat the companion can food. I read where a customer mentioned that this is making her cat drink a lot. Well, that's what I was going for. MyTinny was not drinking and therefore was not making a deposit in the kitty litter bank. She kept trying but it was just a no show. This is very bad, and in the end costly at not one but two vets. I am watching her eat this like it was the best thing on earth. She is now drinking plenty of water which the vet said is important. Thank you Chewy for offering prescription cat food. This is now a must in this household.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chewy Goes The Extra Mile! This is more a review of Chewy than the cat food, which is great. I miss ordered the Dog food variety instead of the Cat food which was my error. I called Chewy to reorder the correct cat food and because it required a vet approval was asked why I was ordering the same item for a cat when I had just ordered the dog variety. When I told them what had happened they did an amazing thing. They told me that they were crediting my account for the Dog food and asked me to donate it to my local animal shelter. I can't say I have ever had this kind of amazing service from anyone I have done business with. When I took the food to the animal shelter I told them what had happened and they told me that they loved Chewy and that this wasn't the first time it happened. I can only say Wow! I am now a life long customer and am telling all my friends to order from Chewy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from My cats love the taste of this food but... My Vet recommended this food for one of my kitties because of her urinary issues. Both of my kitties love the taste and gobble this stuff right up. This food seems to be helping her. The reason I give this product 2 stars is because the ingredients are absolutely horrible! Chicken-by Product Meal, Corn Gluten Meal and Soy Protein Isolate are some of the first ingredients! I'm disappointed this company isn't putting higher quality ingredients in their products especially since it's supposed to be prescription health food and it's very pricey. I'm still on the lookout for healthier urinary SO food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Cats enjoy it. I have 4 male cats, and 3 have had urinary issues. One was an older outdoor cat that I took in, and he has chronic urinary issues. We have had no urinary problems with any of our cats in two years! The calorie count isn't significant between the moderate calorie and the regular, but I do feed the one with a tendency towards weight gain the moderate calorie. I mix in a tsp of the wet urinary so in for the cat that has a hard time maintaining weight, and he gobbles it right up. Great product, and so much less in calories than the science diet c/d.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This food works miracles Both of my cats were having urinary issues and we're on several prescribed medications from the veterinarian and the problems were not being resolved. So we decided changing their diet was worth a shot and changed to the SO diet. Not only do both cats love the food more than the blue buffulo I was feeding them before, they have not had any urinary problems since switching. Their urine output is very good and they are not having any difficulty urinating. Problems resolved with a simple diet change. I recommend this food!
