Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Feline Urinary SO is a complete and balanced diet for adult cats to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis, recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths.
  • Royal Canin Urinary SO Index® promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis

My youngest cat, Simba, was having trouble urinating. Since he is a boy, I feared the worst. As male cats are prone to urninary stones (as mu vet informed me) and blockages can kill a cat. After a trip to his vet and some tests (all while I was having a mini panic attack) the vet comes back and says there are crystals in his urin. (Insert total panic) But she thinks that we caught it early enough that some antibiotics and a new presciption diet will fix the issue. Since the intial visit my vet has reccomeded I transition all my cats to this diet, "it can't hurt" she said. So here we are about 4 months later (and three bags) Simba is 100% better and there haven't been any issues. While I My youngest cat, Simba, was having trouble urinating. And my picky cats (lord help me) actually love it!! 10/10 would reccomend. … more

  • Vet recommended, convenient subscription

    By on

This food came at the recommendation of my vet after one of my cats ended up with two bladder infections within a year. It seems my little dude will need to be on this special diet for the remainder of his life. I opted to subscribe and have this automatically shipped every few months. The discount reduces the cost below anything else I've found online. Remember you need veterinary approval to order this food, so be prepared for a slight shipping delay while that is verified.

  • Great food for situation

This was the food recommend for our cat who has crystals in his urine. The food is high quality and does what we need it to do. I cannot say enough about Chewy's customer service. They're amazing. The email communication with them was so personal. It was strange having a company actually communicating with you like you were acquaintances versus just another sale. Shipping was super quick too. I'm going to buy all my pet products from Chewy going forward. LOVE THEM!

  • Cats love the dry food

    By on

I fed my cats the Urinary SO wet food for over a year, which did the trick as far as their kidney health is concerned. Eventually, though, the cats started eschewing the wet food for the small amount of grocery-store dry food I would give them at night. So I decided to try the dry food version of the Urinary SO, and they can't get enough of it. Now they can have their dry food and their urinary health both!

  • love to hate

I have multiple cats on this diet and have had no problems for over 1 year. My one older male cat had bladder stones in Dec 2015 and had surgery. Seven months later he had to have surgery again because of the Blue Buffalo cat food I fed him. He has been on Royal Canin Urinary SO food for a year and his checkup is wonderful..... no stones noted !!!

  • Yummy food

One of my cat went emergency for a urinary blockage. Now he has to be on this food forever. I decided to put the rest of my cats on this food. Vet said it was ok. 3 cats all together. They went crazy over this food. I had them on the of the most expensive brand and this brand actually is saving me some money. They are all doing great on it.

  • Saved me a trip to the vet & another $700

One of my cats was on this a few years ago after a $700 vet visit and tests & discovering a urinary blockage. The blockage cleared and surgery was avoided. I have three cats, so all the cats were on it. After a while, because of cost and the ingredients in this food, I went back to my former dry food. Oh, they do share a can of fancy feast wet food in the morning. So a few years went by and recently I noticed that same cat was having urinary issues again. I immediately bought this food for all the cats. The urinary issue/blockage resolved without another $700 vet visit. Now I'm torn. This is expensive and not the most nutritious. No one has gained weight; in fact, the two who needed to lose a few pounds, actually lost weight. What I think I might do, is have them share a can of this urinary food in the morning and then give them their former dry food in the evening. I don't free feed them. Around 17:00 or so, I put out the dry food and then put away the bowl in a few hours. … more

  • my cat loves this

    By on

My cat, Madden, has been my problem child since day 1... so when he had a blockage and we rushed him into the ER for a $1,000 catheter/hospital stay, I shouldnt have been surprised. We immediately switched him and my other cat to this food. He loves this food so much he growls at his sister to stay away! It has been 4 months since his incident and we havent seen any signs of another blockage!! Thank goodness for this food (he also thoroughly enjoys the wet food-both kinds)! It is expensive since its prescription but my kitties are worth it! Plus the autoship with chewy.com saves us 5%, plus the hassle of going to the store. Id highly recommend!
