Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • Dissolution of pure struvite uroliths
  • Help prevent struvite, calcium oxalate and phosphate uroliths
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Reduced level of magnesium, a component of struvite stones

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 600 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Highly Recommended! We have 5 rescue cats, 2 female and 3 male. One female and one male have a history of urinary issues with a full on blockage in the male, which required 4 days in the Pet ER. This cat hates wet food and we were always afraid of him developing a blockage due to this. So, when we were told about the high rate of re-occurrence we were highly concerned. However, our vet explained that they have had 99 percent success rate with all male cats who have been treated for a urinary blockage and have been on the dry SO exclusively. The 1 percent that came back in for another blockage was due to the owner, admittedly, not sticking to this dry food and feeding another brand from time to time due to the expense. Here's my thought; I'd rather pay $60.00+ for a bag of cat food as opposed to paying over $2,900.00+ on another emergency vet visit. With five cats, three of which are male, odds are not good that I would be doing that again and again. So now all five cats eat RC Urinary SO dry exclusively and we supplement with the Nutri-Vet Uri-ease, which they all consider a treat! So far so good, no more blockages or urinary issues! Rated 5 out of 5 by No more crystals. No more worries. My vetrinarian recommended this after a bout of crystals. Excellent product! With a combination dry and canned diet, Montegue is purrfect again! My cats love all Royal Canin products. The only thing I don't like is the by products used by this company. But hey, it works, and we're not at the vets!!! October 21, 2016
