Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Feline Urinary SO is a complete and balanced diet for adult cats to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis, recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths.
  • Royal Canin Urinary SO Index® promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis

My 5 1/2 year old fur baby Tima was prescribed this diet after he was was partially blocked, (he kept on having episodes of bladder inflamation) and finally had to undergo a catheter procedure. His X-rays showed crystals in his bladder and the ER doctor suggested Perineal Urethrostomy surgery to expand his urethra, as male cats have a very narrow urethra compared to female cats. After speaking to Tima's primary veterenarian, who said to try this first and prescribed this formula in conjuction with the canned Royal Canin S/O Urinary Gel and Moderate Calorie Morsels In Gravy to try and dissolve the crystals and leave the surgery as a "last resort" option, I ordered this as soon as I got home from My 5 1/2 year old fur baby Tima was prescribed this diet after he was was partially blocked, (he kept on having episodes of bladder inflamation) and finally had to undergo a catheter procedure. Thank God for this miracle food! Very happy mom cat and fur baby!!! … more

  • He Thinks They Are His "Treats"

My "big boy" is on the Urinary SO diet due to his past history of struvite crystals, and the Urinary SO diet has definitely helped his condition along with distilled water which was previously suggested by his original veterinarian. Give him the soft morsels for breakfast as well as dinner, but was able to fool him into thinking that this healthy and helpful dry food are really treats and he "loves" them. At time he even seems to prefer this to his soft food, but don't forget I have him "brainwashed" into thinking that this is dessert. :-) So, whatever form your cat prefers it certainly must appeal to their taste buds since he just loves all of it. My youngest cat, Simba, was having trouble urinating. Since he is a boy, I feared the worst. As male cats are prone to urninary stones (as mu vet informed me) and blockages can kill a cat. After a trip to his vet and some tests (all while I was having a mini panic attack) the vet comes back and says there are crystals in his urin. (Insert total panic) But she thinks that we caught it early enough that some antibiotics and a new presciption diet will fix the issue. Since the intial visit my vet has reccomeded I transition all my cats to this diet, "it can't hurt" she said. So here we are about 4 months later (and three bags) Simba is 100% better and there haven't been any issues. While I My youngest cat, Simba, was having trouble urinating. • Excellent product

My male neutered cat had a blockage about 6 years ago. $5,000 surgery. My vet recommended this food and said "I've never had a cat get another blockage while on it." He was right. Not another incident since. Oliver loves the food, but it does make him thirsty, which is a good thing. Keeps his urinary tract moving. And since I found it on chewy, I love saving about $20.00 for it. Chewy made it easy by contacting my vet to make sure it was prescribed. I received it three days after I ordered it. WONDERFUL service!!!!

  • Cats do great on this food!

    By on

I have one cat who had liver failure about 7 years ago and survived it, that is when my vet prescribed this food. He is still doing just at 14 years old. I have another cat who is 13 years old and he does well with this food as he is prone to urinary stones. We have not had an issue with either one of them. My 4 year old cat does not know any different because she eats what the guys eat. Plus the autoship was easy to start up and so much easier than trying to swing by the vets office during business hours while I am at work!

  • I Was Nervous About the Cost Too

After having a healthy kitty fall victim to the all to common stones my vet prescribed this food- I was very concerned about the price- this is the best price around- Fast forward less than two months, my kitty whom despite daily brushing used to have mats in his long coat, now not only is mat free, but his coat is silky! Additionally he has an increased amlint of energy and is acting like a kitten! I feed this to both of my cats, picky eaters, and they love it! They are free-fed. This does increase water consumption so watch those litter boxes and water bowls! Also, for my healthy eaters I put in my last order June 5th and am just getting ready to reorder!

  • Helps them and they really like it

    By on

Our male catsb (8yrs) starred having urinary issues. Frequency, some straining, trying to go when none would come. Could also tell there was a problem by the way it looked in the litter. Anyway, we stopped giving them much of any people food, even though they love it, and began using this R.C. Urinary SO dry cat food and it cleared right up. We keep on feeding them with it as a precaution due to their age and being male (males tend to have more urinary problems especially as they age). Good company, good product.

I have one cat out of three that has to be on this food, or his food crystallizes and urinary issues... made a believer out of me.. but now he has blood in stool which vet says is not caused by food. He doesn't like the wet pate and loves the hard food. It makes him drink a lot of water and since he's my newest addition I have him on distilled water as well with the others and no issues.. we have a lot of calcium in our water and I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't had to his problems.. but now ok after many vet visits later.. chewy is the best all around and next day delivery. I alway am impressed with the expedient delivery.

  • Vet recommended, convenient subscription

    By on

This food came at the recommendation of my vet after one of my cats ended up with two bladder infections within a year. It seems my little dude will need to be on this special diet for the remainder of his life. I opted to subscribe and have this automatically shipped every few months. The discount reduces the cost below anything else I've found online. Remember you need veterinary approval to order this food, so be prepared for a slight shipping delay while that is verified.

  • Review for Royal Canin Veterinary Diet

My cat was diagnosed with urinary crystals after having trouble urinating. I was unsure at first if my cat would like this food. He is not a picky eater but cats can easily become picky especially when you change their food. I'm happy to say that i was wrong. My cat loves this food and always begs for more after meal time. After just a couple of weeks on this diet, my cat is able to urinate normally. I am very happy with this purchase.
