Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease and who are predisposed to weight gain
  • Moderate calorie content, helps maintain ideal weight
  • Dissolution of pure struvite uroliths
  • Help prevent struvite, calcium oxalate and phosphate uroliths
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Reduced level of magnesium, a natural component of struvite stones

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 245 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Max and Peanut love it! Max and Peanut are a year and half old brothers that until recently had no health problems. Max developed a lower urinary tract issue. A trip to the vet revealed a urine ph that was too alkaline. The vet recommended royal canin urinary so. We put him on antibiotics and a pain med and switched his food and few days later he was doing much better. Both Max and Peanut love this food, they each eat a cup a day in addition to one small can of moist food. The pieces are small and round and easy to eat, the store brand we had them on was too big and odd shaped. They both had a hard time chewing them down to size and the bowl was full of little scraps. They both love it and so do we! The vet says if we keep them on this food it should keep the ph of they're urine were its supposed to be, and the keep the little crystals from forming that were causing Max so much discomfort. Rated 5 out of 5 by Rx Diet - no longer sold by my vet But my 22 lb kitty with the urinary issues enjoys these crunchies, so I was happy to find them at Chewy. This variety is even reduced calorie which my boy certainly needs. Price was comparable to what vet charges, maybe even a little less. Chewy.com makes it really easy to order an Rx item by only requesting Dr name, phone and pet name. The delivery of this item was only one day later than the rest of my order. Total order arrived in only 2-3 days! September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works well I have used this product for several years for an older cat prone to bladder stones and recurrent UTI's. As long as he stays on this formula he has no issues. He loves this food and getting him to eat it has never been a problem. I tried the regular calorie formula but he gained a lot of weight so the moderate calorie is much better for maintaining a good weight. Very pleased with this product! September 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what the doctor ordered! My cat loves the product and I like it because there are no crumbs at the bottom of the bag. September 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Food for my Fur Babies Per the vet's recommendations, my "son" Ziggy is fed this dry cat food. To keep my other 2 "son's" (Oliver & Macaroni) urinary health in check as well, everybody is fed the same food! Having the food shipped to my house is a major convenience! September 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Our cat is doing well on this product I've read reviews that not every Cat or (mostly) dogs benefit from this product. Our Vet recommended it and our cat is doing well by it. September 17, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not sure about this product I normally purchase this food from the vets office. I noticed that the coloring of the food was off. It was much lighter. Not sure if anyone else noticed the same thing. September 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for My Cat This food is well liked by my cat. She has a tendency to overeat. I have a multi-cat household so keeping her at a healthy weight can be a challenge,. This food has eliminated her urinary tract issues. I would recommend it. September 13, 2016
