Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In cats, bacterial infections are far less common. Urinary crystals and stones are often linked to this disease. The most common cause of Lower Urinary Tract Disease in cats is idiopathic cystitis. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Recommended for cats at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease and who are predisposed to weight gain
  • Moderate calorie content, helps maintain ideal weight
  • Dissolution of pure struvite uroliths
  • Help prevent struvite, calcium oxalate and phosphate uroliths
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals
  • Reduced level of magnesium, a natural component of struvite stones

Rated 5 out of 5 by Max and Peanut love it! Max and Peanut are a year and half old brothers that until recently had no health problems. Max developed a lower urinary tract issue. A trip to the vet revealed a urine ph that was too alkaline. The vet recommended royal canin urinary so. We put him on antibiotics and a pain med and switched his food and few days later he was doing much better. Both Max and Peanut love this food, they each eat a cup a day in addition to one small can of moist food. The pieces are small and round and easy to eat, the store brand we had them on was too big and odd shaped. They both had a hard time chewing them down to size and the bowl was full of little scraps. They both love it and so do we! The vet says if we keep them on this food it should keep the ph of they're urine were its supposed to be, and the keep the little crystals from forming that were causing Max so much discomfort. Rated 5 out of 5 by My cat loves this... My cat, Spot, suffers from bladder stones and the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Urinary SO was recommended by my vet. We were using the canned variety and for several months that worked, but this cat had always eaten dry food and one day she started rejecting the canned food and trying to steal the food of my other cat.So after checking with my vet, I tried the dry version. Now my cat not only eats her food, she is once again reminding me when it is time to eat. I have my baby back. If your vet is OK with the dry food, this is a very good choice. October 26, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by This product seems to be doing it's job I had recently had one of my cats diagnosed with struvite crystals in his urine and was recommended this cat food for him and he is thriving on it and since I have 3 other neutered male cats in the house I also switched them to this and all of them are eating it. Yes they pee more but that is a good thing. :) October 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The taste must be similar to the regular, since my cats are loving it! After being of the Royal Canin Urinary SO for about a year I noticed that my cats had gained some weight. I purchased the Moderate Calorie Urnary SO and have mixed them 1/2 and 1/2 and the cats are eating it just fine. October 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cats love it I have 4 cats and 1 of them came down with urinary crystals and had to have a catheter. The vet. gave me two different samples of food specifically for this issue and told me it was fine to feed all my cats the same food. None of them wouldn't even touch the one sample (SD) but they all loved the Royal Canin. No more crystals in the one cat (knock on wood) and an added bonus is that the affect it had on all 4 cats coats. Their fur has never been so soft and shiny. Hopefully being moderate calorie will help all 4 lose a little weight as a bonus too. October 11, 2016
