Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • So thankful we found this food!

    By on

My 11 year old cat has been low maintenance his entire life. About a year old, he started having diarrhea which became chronic. After some bloodwork with our vet, we decided to try this food formula. I can't even believe the difference! No more diarrhea and it has definitely contributed a quality of life factor as well. A happy belly = a happy cat! Plus, the autoship price on Chewy makes the food more affordable!

  • This works to reduce excessive vomiting

    By on

We have 3 cats and have had daily vomit cleanups from one to all of them over the last 7 years they have been eating Blue Buffalo. This food has amazingly stopped all and any vomiting. We thought that is was just our cats, nope, it was the food. Don't be fooled thinking you are buying a better food.

  • So far so good!

    By on

We are going through the transition of switching from the other prescription dry cat food and already I have seen a difference - I have 5 cats and 4 of them are always vomiting - that has already been cut down a lot since going through the switch. A couple of more days and we will be totally switched to Roay Canin

  • Royal Canin Gastrointestinal HE dry cat food

    By on

This food was recommended by a cat friend of mine. I was very hopeful that it would be a good fit for my cats, so I ordered a bag. Well I was very disappointed, as not one of them would touch it.

Kitten likes it. Small pieces easy for him to chew. So far it seems to be helping him with his gastro issues but it has only been about a week.

My vet recommended this dry food after my cat's ordeal with pancreatitis-he loves it and it also is a great diet for cats that develop crystals in their urine. (like Vader does)
