Description

Renal Essentials Feline Bite-Sized Chews help maintain proper kidney function by supporting renal circulation, normal fluid retention, detoxification, stress management, homocysteine balance, and kidney and liver function. The inclusion of astragalus root powder supports kidney circulation and immune function, while the Chinese herb rehmannia supports kidney and liver function, and is known as the kidney’s own food.

Other ingredients like vitamins B1 and B2 support metabolic activity, including the metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, supporting proper energy production. Folic acid, DMG, B12 and B6 help support methylation and sulfuration pathways, while minerals like potassium are important for water balance. B vitamins are water soluble and not properly recycled during times of kidney stress or dysfunction; therefore, supplementation may be required.

My cat doesn't seem to like the smell or taste of these much, which is unfortunate, as I was hoping she would take to them. She's eaten maybe a couple, but generally she doesn't seem to care for these treats. When she has eaten the treats, I've had to cut them in half, as they are a bit large for her (just smaller than a goldfish cracker), and kind of hard to chew.

My Rex ate these willingly for about the first week - then slowly he must have figured out that they were good for him because he regressed to only eating them when he was desperate. He eats canned food now along with prescription dry because of his kidney problems, so I decided to mix the vits in with his canned food: I started smashing them up (they're soft out of the bag) and mixing them in with the food. Then I take a can of Friskies Beef Bits and Gravy and spoon some of the gravy over the mix (he LOVES gravy) and he eats it like he's been starved for a week. I keep mixing water into the Friskies and the gravy can last for a couple days. • Treat worthy

Of our 2 cats, one initially rejected this. But now both cats gobble this stuff up and I have something I do not feel guilty giving them after they get their fluid infusions. Wish these were cheaper.

  • My cat likes these!

Happy to find treats that are designed for cats with kidney disease. He's not supposed to have treats at all, but they are helpful when enticing him to sit still while the special fluids required are administered.

  • tried product for finicky cats :-(

I am sure this product works for many cats, but my cats are just not fond of these "treats." I would like to supplement their diet with some renal support product, but this style of treat doesn't work. They will eat crunchy treats but not soft chewy kinds. I think the product would be great if your cat will eat it!

  • Not so much. ...but great service

Unfortunately my cats won't eat the treats or even when I crush them up into a gravy can cat food. I am so sad that they didn't like them. Chewy.com handled my replacement without a problem. They were so good to me and concerned about my cats problems. She was very helpful . God bless them.

  • If your cat will eat them, mine did not!

My cat ate the first two I gave her as long as I broke them up but then refused them repeatedly. I tried mixing & sneaking a few tiny pieces in her other dry food and she accidentally ate a small tidbit, never to ever fall for that trick again. I waited weeks than tried them in a few pill pockets but in order to get one of these into a cat sized pill pocket, it takes 3 pill pockets per vetri chew. Meaning for one daily serving, I'd have to feed my cat 12 pill pockets a day just to get her to the recommended daily serving needed/suggested. Pill pockets are not made for ckd, so kinda defeats the purpose & goal of the vetri benefits. They are hard & don't smell good. I really wanted her to like them but they are more of a hassle & pain to trick her to eat them. They have to make them more appealing, softer & palatable. Cats are smart & keen. I recommend at least giving them a try b/c you'll never know unless you try for yourself & your cat. Every cat is different, just like people. … more

  • So far so good.

To my surprise (based on some other reviews) my cat likes these. I dont think they smell that bad as some others have stated. I use a pill crusher and mix into wet food, even though these are treats, I do the same with the Glycoflex treats made by the same company. (they are the same texture as those if you buy them, about 1/2 the size of the Glycoflex "fish"). She hasnt had bloodwork since starting these. She is feeling better, but hard to say if this is just a coincidence or not.

  • Excellent Supplement

This is an excellent supplement for a cat with renal failure. It helps with the digestion issues and has significantly helped our cat with renal failure. While kidneys do not return to normal function, this product helps the kidneys function to their best ability.
