We want to remind those with suppressed immune systems and pregnant women that a parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please wash hands thoroughly after handling used cat box filler. Encouraging your cat to use an indoor litter box, or properly disposing of outdoor cat feces is beneficial to overall water quality. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains. Used litter is not recommended for garden use. Store in a dry place. Product is filled by weight; some settling may occur.

  • Select an appropriate litter box. There should be enough room for your cat to comfortably turn around in. Fill the litter box to a depth of 2 to 3 inches, with plenty of pellets for pawing and covering. Remember that Yesterday's News paper cat litter is different than clay cat litter. Having the litter too deep will make it more difficult to find and remove the soiled litter.
  • Liquid waste is absorbed from the bottom of the pan. It takes a few minutes for all the liquid to absorb.
  • Remove the soiled pellets when they have absorbed the liquid and have fully expanded in size.
  • Scoop solid waste from the top of the litter box daily.
  • Replace the litter weekly.

Some cats switch from one litter type to another easily. Others require a transition. When possible, give your cat the opportunity adjust to Yesterday's News® prior to surgery.

I have an elderly, frail cat who has diabetes and high blood pressure. I normally use scoopable litter but because of her frailty, she would step in the liquid waste and the litter would stick in her paws, turn into a cement-like substance on her feet and get in her bed. She hated having me scrape it from her paws. Then I switched to this. What a lifesaver! This doesn't cling to her paws and no more shaking the litter from her bedding several times a day. I prefer the scoopable litter for my healthy cats but if you have a problem with litter sticking in the paws, this will solve it!

Good product. It was recommended by the vet for my fur baby when she got declawed. I started mixing it in with the normal clumping litter to get her used to it. Worked great during that period. Only dislike is that it doesn't cover the odor at all. But for tender paws it did what it was supposed to and protected her paws from getting clay litter in her incision. I would recommend for such cases. But I will be going back to normal litter after she's all healed.

  • Great for rats :)

    By on

I have ten male rats in one cage and they tend to get rather rank quickly. I've tried all kinds of litter, aspen, paper, fleece liners, towels, you name it. I had the best luck with smell using *** litter but they made a MASSIVE mess throwing it out of the cage. So I tried this. We're at a week and there is no smell and NO MESS. The ladies, my more picky fuzzbutts, seem sort of confused (it makes noise when I walk?!?) but don't mind it so we're happy. For reference one bag is enough for two double Critter Nation cages.

  • sounded like a good idea

The cats don't seem to mind some of this recycled newspaper litter in with their clay litter, but I do. The pellets--many of which are about an inch long--are large enough that they don't even fall through my biggest scoop. Each time you clean the box, you throw away a good deal of the litter. Of course it doesn't clump at all, which is something I didn't think of when jumping at the chance to have a recycled product. I'm going to use mine for mulch in the flowerbeds. Not recommended.

  • perfect so far

Doesn't smell, really doesn't track at all. Using it in the 'storage bin' type litter box with top entry. Smaller litters would scatter everywhere as my cat jumped out, but this doesn't scatter (maybe one or two pieces). I've had it for 2 weeks now and I can't smell any pee. Granted my cats are on a full BARF diet, so that helps I'm sure. Love it! Wish it clumped, and this would be the perfect litter. :)

  • Great small animal or rodent litter.

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

This litter makes perfect substrate for non burrowing small animals (rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets etc). Not sure how it would be for cats, but the odor control is fantastic for small animals. I wouldn't recommend giving to burrowing animals like hamsters though because they can't tunnel in this.

  • The cats use it but I am not a fan

    By on

So the litter is difficult to scoop out with a normal litter scoop. Since the litter is long and cylinder shaped. My cats are using it and there is basically no dust or debris that you get with normal cat litter. Just kind of expensive for what you get.

I used this cat litter for a litter of puppies. I liked that if a puppy ate any of it, it would not harm them, or cause a blockage. The product was very useful in keeping a clean playpen area for the puppies.
