  • I like the old formula better

    By on

I have been giving my cats ziwipeak canned food for a while. The cats and I love the old formula. They devoured everything and liked every flavor I bought (never tried venison). The new formula added chick peas, and the carb percentage on A DRY MATTER BASIS is now 20%. Ideally a cat should ingest food with less than 10% of carbohydrates. Therefore, I'm not very happy with the new formula. Despite the change, the cats still like the new formula as well as the old one. I now use it to supplement my homemade raw diet when an earlier batch is running out and the new batch isn't ready for feeding. So far so good but I won't feed this canned food exclusively.

  • Great ingredients

    By on

I cautiously recommend. You can't beat Ziwipeak for ingredients, all meat with just a bit of chickpea thickener. High quality. No gums or bad stuff. It's really helped my older kitty recover from IBS symptoms. However, this new formula gets very stiff, especially after being in the frig, and my cat doesn't care for the texture. It also has very little smell. The old formula had more of the green muscle smell. So, kitty finds it uninteresting. I've had to resort to mixing some real chicken or something in it to jazz up the taste and smell.

  • The best !!!!!!!

    By on

I have three Sphynx cats and they require a high-protein/low-carb diet. it's hard finding something that everyone likes, doesn't upset their sensitive tummies and doesn't break the bank. But this flavor and brand is a hit !!! thanks Chewy for caring about our pets and making it extremely convenient for me to provide my babies the best!

  • Love the ingredients (new formula). THANK YOU Ziwi!

I have been feeding this to my cat (new formula) for several weeks and so far, so good! I had been wanting to try for some time given the good reviews and ingredients, but had hesitated b/c I don't feed my cats any fish and try to stay away from red meat since it is supposedly a common allergen. I compromised on the rabbit and lamb (wish they did just all rabbit or offered an all poultry choice of some kind). At first introduction by itself, my cat wouldn't eat and I was disappointed. I expected him to gobble it up with joy. Determined to make him like it, I then started mixing a tiny bit in his food, increasing gradually each day. Now he's eating with no issues and does seem to enjoy. The I have been feeding this to my cat (new formula) for several weeks and so far, so good! Now he's eating with no issues and does seem to enjoy. The major thing I love about this food is the ingredients. I have done a lot of research on cat foods and toxic ingredients that are unfortunately "status quo". This is by far one of the best brands as far as ingredient list and what I truly appreciate is that it seems like Ziwi listens to its customers and their concerns about certain ingredients and have modified their recipes over time. NO carrageenan, NO sodium selenite (just natural selenium), NO menadione (synthetic vitamin k), NO agar, agar, NO grains, tapioca starch, corn, soy. NO potatoes. NO tspp. No ingredients from China. The one thing I did notice is that it is higher in carbs than I would like, but it's still at an acceptable level. I am assuming it's from the chickpeas, which some people may balk at (I get it), but I am assuming they are there as a binder for the food. I definitely would choose chickpeas over alternative binders such as tapioca starch, guar gum, xantham gum, carrageenan, agar, agar, etc. Anyway, all in all I think it's a good quality food. Is it expensive? Totally. But I am more than willing to pay more, for quality ingredients. I just wish Chewy would start selling the new formula on line so I can buy it here. … more

  • Old formula was perfect.

    By on

Old formula was perfect, but sadly my cats won't touch the new formula. They used to loooove the rabbit and lamb, now they smell it and walk away. So bummed. I'm giving it a 3 because it's still a great brand and I'm hoping it will work for some cats.

  • Close to a Natural Diet

    By on

One of my kitties had gastic problems since being a younger kitten. I experiemented with different foods, & even raw, but she continued to have bloody, loose stools. My conventional vet had no clues, & said the kitten was too tiny for more invasive tests. I got a 2nd opinion from a wholistic vet, & eventually, found rabbit, lamb, & duck to be safe proteins, canned, & freeze-dried raw. All my cats (3) like this one, even better than the version that is all-lamb. I waited until I order a case for the 3rd time, because cats can be fickle!

  • Slowly fulfilling my purpose

I bought this to wean our overweight, neutered, 3 year old male cat off some great, but dry, food, out of concern for his urinary tract health. He's taking to it slowly.

  • New formula

My cat as Inflammatory Bowel Disease and so I has trouble tolerating certain foods and additives. I was thrilled with ZiwiPeak until they added chickpeas to the formula. There was no advance notice about the new formulation and so I didn't have time to gradually transition my cat to the new food and keep my fingers crossed that he would be able to tolerate it. I tried other brands of cat food because I didn't like the addition of the chick peas to Ziwi, but my cat was less than enthusiastic about the new brands. I decided to give Ziwi another try and thus far my cat is tolerating it well. However, I am shocked at the increase in price for the 24 3 ounce cans! • The BEST food ever...so says my furbabies!!

    By on

I don't normally leave reviews but this food has to be the best quality food that both my picky (sensitive stomach) 12 yr old Siamese and 1 yr old Ragdoll go crazy for....ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! They talk and talk whenever it's time for a meal. They never did this for Nature's Variety limited rabbit or lamb. I only tried this brand because Chewy was out of NV lamb so I started searching for high quality alternatives. I was impressed by other reviews and after researching the company, I decided to try... and WOW I'm glad I did! My babies agree that this is the preferred and fingers crossed the company doesn't go and change formulas.
