How do I clean the pump for the catit water fountain?

If the pump appears dirty, it's recommended to open the pump and remove the impeller cap and impeller. Next, remove any debris from the impeller, and clean impeller thoroughly with a cotton swab.
Regarding cleaning, are the fountain parts dishwasher safe?

This fountain is not dishwasher safe. You should wash and rinse the fountain with a soft sponge and a non-abrasive cleanser.
Is it okay to use an extension cord with this fountain?

If an extension cord is necessary, ensure the connection is watertight and dust proof. A cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.

Could be better

Im not sure if the cat has taken to this yet so I can’t comment on that. This one was a bit louder than my last. Not annoying but noticeable. My biggest complaint is with the filters. They are incased in a plastic holder which seems like a lot of plastic waste to me. My last fountain had filters that fit in the fountains housing. This fountain could have been designed the same, limiting the need for more disposable plastic.

Works great as long as you take care of it properly!

Very important to clean the plastic parts at least once a week! Also, make sure to change up the filters at least once a month! This thing only makes much noice when the water level gets low, so make sure that you look at the water level in at least every couple days and add more when it gets a little low. My cats love this thing and are drinking lots more wate than they used to once I got this fountain for them

Amazing for cats and dogs!

I can't rave enough about this fountain. I just bought my 3rd one of these. I've had the other 2 for years. They're a bit tedious to clean, but with the cleaning kit it's easy enough. My 50 lb dogs are messy drinkers and my cats are picky about their water. This works great to filter out all the nasties from the dogs and make it acceptable for the cats to drink from. It saves me from have to fill several bowls all day long. Less work on my part, and everyone has fresh water.
