    It's been more than 20 years since my wife and I have been owners of a dog. How does a person get back in the dog care game at 71? I took the research route. After becoming familiar with Chewy.com I found this book by the Dog Whisperer. It's full of great tips. The tip that impressed me most is denying affection until my 4-month old Boston is calm. Cesar Milan refers to it as "No Touch, No Talk, No Eye-Contact" until the dog gets to a "balanced state". Example: I leave the house for an hour and when I return my pup greets me by jumping up on my legs with her front paws flaying at me. I resist picking her up so she can lick me into next week.
