Why does it have to be an enclosed litter box? Is that mandatory?

While this mat is designed for use with a COZIWOW cat litter box enclosure (sold separately), it may be placed in front of another litter box if wanted.

Wooden Cat Litter Trap Mat

Once I opened this, I didn't even try to use it ... the material is a compressed wood particle product ... it would ruin / hold smell with any moisture exposure... also, it cannot be opened up to be cleaned out. I wish this product were made in a plastic material and that it was in two pieces where the top could be removed for cleaning
