    Excellent and safe heating unit

First, it is important to understand that chickens regulate their body temperature themselves. They don’t need a lot of heat. If you are using a heat lamp, you might be disappointed at the amount of heat this “gives off.” It is radiant heat and very effective, but it doesn’t create a hot coop (this is a big problem in itself because the chickens stop regulating their temperature, not to mention the fire risk). It regularly keeps the temps 15-20 degrees higher in the coop compared to outside. I live in the northeast where it was cold so this is perfect for frostbite prevention. Excellent and safe heating system!! … more

    Heater hot to touch

    By on

I was under the impression this type of heater was more of a warmer for chickens - but this panel gets hot even on low setting! I’m worried that when they huddle around it, they could get burned if against it all night! Reconsidering if this is the best heating option.

    Not exactly what I wanted

    By on

The product I wanted needed to have 4 feet where this one only had two. We made it work but I would have preferred 4 safe feet with live chickens under it

May be ok for warmer climates

    By on

Bought this as a safer alternative to a heat lamp in the coop. For the safety part, I do feel like it is better. However, its purpose is to heat, which I do not feel it does as well. We have a fairly small coop and there is no noticable difference in it on a cold day. I ended up wall mounting it by the roost so they could feel a bit of heat while they are in for the night, or if they stay in on a very cold day. Overall, if you live in a climate that you're not getting much below freezing, this will probably do what you're looking for. But then again, if the weather in your area is that warm, you really don't need a heater anyway.

It's ok, but not what I expected

    By on

I really thought this would put out more heat than it does. I got it for a feral cat, and even though she loved laying with her feet and tummy against it, heat could not be felt more than an inch away. She's back under her heat lamp.

    Better protective packaging maybe?

    By on

It arrived with the floor stand broken. Not sure if this was due to not enough protection in packaging during shipment or if it occurred during packing, but obviously there is a problem somewhere. And being that this is made to be in a chicken coop with animals that move around a lot, shouldn’t the floor stand material have been made out of sturdier stuff to begin with?
