It works great for it's intended purpose. It is very stiff before it is submerged in water.

Terrible Nitrate problem in my Cichlid Tank, messy eaters and/or overfeeding, causing very high levels that water changes would not help. Changed out Filter Media and within a week it was dropping down, cut back feedings and after the 2nd week it was gone.

I love that these products combine mechanical and chemical filtration. Filter cartridges theoretically do the same thing but I've noticed the chemical media always bunches up inside the floss. With this I know that the chemical media is not being bypassed. Plus its cut-to-fit capability makes it perfect for all my filters! I have about a billion different retail filters in addition to my DIY filters that hold more water than most aquariums.
