For the best fit, match the below dimensions to your pet's measurements as closely as possible. If your pet falls somewhere between two sizes, we advise ordering the larger of the two.

• Body: Measure the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Add 2 inches for comfort.

• Neck: Measure around your dog's neck leaving room for two fingers.

• Chest: Most important measurement; measure your dog's chest around the widest part. Add 2 inches for comfort.

1. If a dog is in-between sizes, most often, the customer should size down.

The standard advise for the majority of traditional dog coats is to size up if your dog is in-between sizes. Due to the way our coats scale in length, girth and drop, this will often result in the customer ordering a coat which is too large for their dog. I'm sure you know that most returns are a result of the customer ordering one size too large and then exchanging for the next size down. Our coats typically run one size larger in comparison to other typical brands. For example, our Large size (22 inches) is often times another brand's XL size. Instructing customers to size down will be very helpful.

2. Universal dog coat sizing guides or instructions should not be used for these coats.

These coats are unique in which they are model after a horse blanket and should be measured differently than the standard dog coat from other brands. These coats sit lower on the dog's neck than most dog coats. Measuring the dog's length should start from between the base of the shoulder blades and not at the base of the neck. You will see this illustrated in the size chart. I've attached a photo of our XXL (28.5 inches) size Derby Dog Coat fitting a mini horse foal. We plan to add this to all the images of that size so customers can avoid selecting this size unless their dog is the size of a mini horse.
