can it clean shagg carpet

This vacuum cleaner features a brushroll and four levels of height to help remove debris and fur from both carpet and hard floors. Low settings are great for tile, hardwood, linoleum and low pile carpets. High settings are great for plush and shag carpets.

a poor design

I purchased this machine because I used to own a Dirt Devil and am sorry that it was given away when I received a Dyson DC25 as a gift. This Dirt Devil is better than the DC25 for overall deep carpet cleaning because it is larger and has a bigger motor, but the hose doesn't fit the wand, the wand is too short, I don't like having to remove 8 screws to service the brush, and because of the hefty brush design it is difficult to push on carpet, lest I turn the machine in a direction that is going with a flattened carpet pile high traffic area. I like the filter system and especially the pre-filter sleeve over the pleated filter. I enjoy not smelling a dog odor when cleaning, the DC25 always left the room reeking of dog. If not for the inexpensive price, I would have returned this Dirt Devil. I paid about $10.00 more for this machine than the replacement brush motor assembly for the DC25 would have cost. I like the longer power cord, but the handle release is sticky, and I more enjoyed the auto-height feature on the DC25 than having to stop working, put the handle into the upright position, and then adjust the brush height on the Dirt Devil, before resuming.

This vacuum is incredibly loud

This vacuum is incredibly loud, the loudest I've ever had. It's also very difficult to depress the foot lever/handle release. I attempted one use and I am returning it.
