Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Advantage Topical Solution and Advantage II?

We have added an insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen, to Advantage II.

What is an insect growth regulator (IGR)?

An IGR, such as pyriproxyfen, inhibits the development of flea eggs. It also offers additional larvicidal properties when compared with imidacloprid alone.

How does pyriproxyfen work?

Pyriproxyfen mimics the juvenile growth hormone of fleas. This hormone prevents immature flea stages from molting into the next stage of the life cycle and keeps them from developing into adult fleas.

Why is it important to use a product with an IGR?

With an IGR as part of your flea control, the flea life cycle is disrupted at multiple stages through different active ingredients and modes of action. This is often referred to as integrated flea control (IFC). The addition of an IGR to Advantage II adds larvicidal and ovicidal properties to target flea infestations and kill all flea life stages.

Is Advantage II waterproof?

Yes, there is no need to reapply the product after weekly swimming or a bath. For best results, use a non-detergent shampoo.

I purchased the extra large dog for use on both my cat and dog. Give both different amounts measured. (Same ingredients for cat and dog). Works on indoor cat, but my 10 lb. mixed terrier has to be flea combed once or twice a day after taking him out - and I always get a few fleas off of him. He has been combed twice today and I still got 5 fleas off of him the second time! Fortunately he is white and not thick coated, so I am able to see and get those little suckers! His skin is very flea sensitive. He gets a bath once a week and all of his bedding gets washed as well. I live in Fla. and the fleas are bad, but I had this problem in Va. with another dog as well. • Worked about a week....

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Took in a seven pound puppy who had fleas. Bathed her first then applied this product the next day. The fleas seemed to let up, I thought it was just taking a while to work, but after about a week the scratching started again and I started finding fleas on her again. We had washed her little bed and treated the premises and our other pets as well. SO...after the appropriate amount of time we retreated with Frontline Plus, no more fleas, no more scratching, everybody is happy.

  • My choice for small dogs

    By on

This product is the right dosage for very small dogs - 3 to 10 lbs. I have tried a competitive product marketed for under 30 pounds and the dosage is simply too much. Two of my Chihuahuas had a reaction to the larger dose product. I have found Advantage II to be very effective.

  • AWESOME

    By on

This is my go to flea meds for my 6 pound Chihuahua. She came from the humane society so she did have fleas when I got her home. This works well for her she has no reaction to it and it seems to do the job. I have tried the cheaper meds and they do not work as well. This is definitely worth it!!

  • Very happy with product and prompt delivery

The product came as expected. I actually had to call immediately after I placed the order in order to confirm when I should expect it. The customer service representative was excellent and told me that it would probably come overnight delivery. My order came the very next day.

  • Fleas persist a week later.

    By on

A week after applying the entire tube of product to my 5 lb. dog, he was still battling fleas. Right now 1 1/2 weeks later, all is calm. He never had a bad infestation, just 1 or 2 at a time, but he's very allergic to fleas. My daughter tells me the product is NOT water proof as the packaging states. I bathe my dog weekly so I hope it continues to work or I send it back.

  • Recommended by our Vet.

We just got a new puppy and asked our Vet for his opinion of Advantage ll. We had been using Front Line for 10 years+. The Vet said that Advantage ll is the best of all these types of products so we took his recommendation.
