Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Advantage Topical Solution and Advantage II?

We have added an insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen, to Advantage II.

What is an insect growth regulator (IGR)?

An IGR, such as pyriproxyfen, inhibits the development of flea eggs. It also offers additional larvicidal properties when compared with imidacloprid alone.

How does pyriproxyfen work?

Pyriproxyfen mimics the juvenile growth hormone of fleas. This hormone prevents immature flea stages from molting into the next stage of the life cycle and keeps them from developing into adult fleas.

Why is it important to use a product with an IGR?

With an IGR as part of your flea control, the flea life cycle is disrupted at multiple stages through different active ingredients and modes of action. This is often referred to as integrated flea control (IFC). The addition of an IGR to Advantage II adds larvicidal and ovicidal properties to target flea infestations and kill all flea life stages.

Is Advantage II waterproof?

Yes, there is no need to reapply the product after weekly swimming or a bath. For best results, use a non-detergent shampoo.

  • prefer ADVANTAGE to other brands

    By on

After 20+ years of owning dogs and fostering dogs, I have used several brands. I settled with ADVANTAGE because it's in a easy open tube. Most brands work once administered. The difference is the ease of open. It's an expensive, toxic liquid that you cannot afford spilling or getting on hands or into eye. I am done with those hard-to-open "snap" containers.

  • Finally works

For years I have had a battle with fleas. This seems to do the trick and, for the price, it is great. You pay $25 per tube at the vet for this Rx. and it averages at $10 per tube here. I will be getting it from here from now on.

This was much better than frontline plus. No side effects like vomiting and diarrhea as he had with frontline. And best of all no fleas with frontline the fleas came right back.

  • Not as good as it seems

I was so excited about this product. My dogs had no fleas. The excitement lasted a week and then the fleas were back. They weren't as bad but definitely didn't last thirty days. I'm very disappointed.

  • Awesome product

    By on

Lived this product. It arrived within 2 days and by day 3 we were flea free on our animals. We had the big sprayer come out, shampooed the carpets and have been in heaven every since. I bought 2 months worth for 6 dogs just to test it. I will be purchasing more.

I used this product on my Yorkies and again one week later. They still have fleas 2 weeks later. Not Chewy.com's fault...just disappointed in the product...waste of money!

  • Doesn't Work

I purchased the extra large dog for use on both my cat and dog. Give both different amounts measured. (Same ingredients for cat and dog). Works on indoor cat, but my 10 lb. mixed terrier has to be flea combed once or twice a day after taking him out - and I always get a few fleas off of him. He has been combed twice today and I still got 5 fleas off of him the second time! Fortunately he is white and not thick coated, so I am able to see and get those little suckers! His skin is very flea sensitive. He gets a bath once a week and all of his bedding gets washed as well. I live in Fla. and the fleas are bad, but I had this problem in Va. with another dog as well.
