  • After nearly 20 years, time for a new one.

    By on

I've lost track of the original purchase date, somewhere between 1998 and 2002. Finally replacing the sun faded unit with the original motor, still running, but louder than when new (well over 100,000 hours on it). (I dispensed with the filters due to cost and went with a diluted (10%) bleach + water sanitize once a week - rinse extremely thoroughly after this, using soapy water following the bleach - no trace of the bleach can remain). Product has proven very durable, and a dozen cats plus several dogs all loved it. I'm buying a new one to celebrate a move to a new home (yes, all the pets came with us)! • Hydration success!

    By on

I have been looking for the right water fountain and have tried several different ones, but this one is exactly what my furbabies needed to stay hydrated, they love drinking from it. I love the size of it. there is no water running all over the place, as the actual water bowl is huge! the big plus with the Drinkwell Big Dog Pet Fountain is the water reservoir, which in total holds over 2.25 gallons of water. How awesome is that!! I had no idea how huge this water fountain was until I saw it on a video on the FB. I highly recommend this product.

  • Keeps them hydrated!

We've had this about a month now and it works great. With 2 pups and an older dog, we go through a lot of water. Instead of filling a water bowl 10 times a day, I fill this once, sometimes twice depending on the activity of the day. I'm really glad we bought it and the dogs, once used to the water dripping noise, are very happy with it. One of our pups likes to put toys in it and then bob for it at times. My only con is that it is hard to clean at the kitchen sink because of the size. It's hard to get in the back area with a scrubber to scrub out the mineral deposits. But I clean it about every 3rd day, so it's not so much that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It has been a lot of help with We've had this about a month now and it works great. • Life changer

My dog is the sloppiest drinker & she drinks a lot! I used to fill her bowl 1-3x a day & wipe up my whole kitchen floor after she drank. Now I never have to wipe & I’ve had this for a few weeks & I’ve only filled it 2x! I highly recommend this, Also my two cats love it! They especially love the little fountain. I feel like they are more encouraged to drink water.

  • Poor design

    By on

In concept, the pet fountain is a great idea. However, for practical use, it just does not do the trick. The large volume of water and fountain is nice but you can't clean the unit very well at all. There are an abundance of small spaces that are way too difficult to get in and clean. Because of that, this unit probably does more harm to the dog by harboring bacteria growth points. I would not recommend this unit.

  • Clean water

We have a Westie and a Scottie. Our Scottie has problems with stones from hard water. I bought the big dog fountain and I am glad I did. It holds enough water for a week. Our dogs are medium size but, love this fountain. It has a deeper bowl for larger dogs so they do not make a mess. Our floor stays clean around this bowl. The filter water stays clean all week. The water jug that comes with it fits our refrigerator water dispenser so the dogs start with filter clean water. The fountain makes it sound like a outdoor fountain but, the dogs love drinking from it. It appears that the charcoal filter should last a month.

  • Great product!

This I bought this awhile ago. Late review. My 2 dogs and 2 cats love it. All 4 get picky when it's almost empty, once I clean and refill it they are all over it. The cats love to drink from the steam. I did chip the inside of the knob because I had a hard time taking it apart for a cleaning I was mad about that but it still holds for now. Not sure if their is a replacement part.

  • 2nd purchase

    By on

I purchased a big dog watering fountain about 15 years ago for my husky. Never had a single problem with! The only reason I'm having to buy a new one is our dog sitter let it run out of water and never filled it back up. The pump over heated and melted the whole bottom, rendering it useless (and himself as well!). Needless to say, he won't be back again but the Big Boy will! They are wicked easy to clean and fill up. The doggos love it (we now have a boxer, German Shepard, and a Coonhound).

  • We love it!

I won't even drink our water unless it's filtered. I love this fountain! It's gives me comfort to know they are getting clean running water. My 3 dogs, my dad's dog who visits, and a foster are all using it and enjoy it. I fill it up once morning, once nightly, wash it and change the filter Sunday's. It's very convenient to fill and clean. Totally worth the $ and although I'm reading the pump is not replaceable, I'll just buy another as I have not had any trouble at all in almost 6 mths. Can't get them all to behave to get a pic but we all love it. Here's one of my boys. JAX, wondering why all the commotion just for a pic. Ha!

  • Drinkwell is overall a decent product

I feel this overall a good product. I ordered it in the hopes of my children being more willing to want to help out with refilling the water when needed. The previous setup was rather large and cumbersome. We have four large dogs; Rottweiler, pitbull/boxer, collie, and an American bulldog. One of the dogs kept dropping food in the water so I had hoped the constant moving water and filter system would keep it clean. Truth is, I fill the reservoir 2-3 times a day, rinse out the base every other day (dog food) and pull the motor to clean the dog hair from it. And I've ran the whole thing through the dishwasher once since I've bought it. I also ended up buying a small fish net just so I can fish I feel this overall a good product. So it didn't really do me any good and it didn't make my dreams come true. But my dogs do love to drink from it. And that is what matters most. … more
