The amount of food your dog needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use our feeding chart as a guide, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your dog’s ideal weight. We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Regular exercise will help maintain a healthy body weight. Love, attention and tummy rubs should be given freely, as often as possible.

Transition Instructions

It’s important to slowly transition your pet to a new food so their system has a chance to adapt to the change. The transition period should be at minimum, ten days and could take upwards of two weeks, depending on your pet’s sensitivity to change: On day one, introduce 10% new food / 90% old food. Keep the food at this ratio for two or more days. Next, increase the ratio to 20% new food / 80% old food for two or more days. Repeat increasing in increments of 10% until you’re feeding 100% of the new food. If your pet experiences any kind of digestive upset during this time, try slowing down the process to let his/her digestive tract adjust to the new food. Some vomiting and/or diarrhea can be normal when introducing new foods as the digestive process and the naturally occurring bacteria your pet’s body requires is a complex and delicate system. If you experience any vomiting and/or diarrhea, be sure to reduce the amount of new food the next time you feed and overall, slow the whole transition period down even more.

I followed the feeding guidelines on your packaging, but my pet is too fat/thin. Why?

Feeding Guidelines are simply a place to start. You should increase or decrease the amount you feed based on your pet’s activity level and weight.

Are the ingredients used in Petcurean products “human-grade”?

All of our fresh meat and meat meal ingredients are sourced from animals passed fit for human consumption by the CFIA. The fruits and vegetables used in our recipes also come from the human food chain. We do not, however, claim that our ingredients are “human-grade”; once an individual ingredient leaves a “human-grade” processing facility and enters a “pet food” processor, the ingredient loses its “human-grade” classification.

What is an organic ingredient?

A certified organic ingredient provides a guarantee that the ingredient has met strict government standards for how food is grown, handled and processed; using organic agricultural methods. Organic agriculture focuses on farming practices that encourage soil and water conservation and regeneration, and reduces pollution. Organic farmers use natural fertilizers and pest control methods to benefit the soil, plants and animals for a healthy environment.

Where are your products made?

Petcurean dry pet foods are produced in Ontario, Canada. Our canned products are primarily produced in Ontario, Canada and secondarily at a plant in New Jersey, USA. Our SPIKE Jerky Treats are manufactured in Gainsville, Georgia and our SPIKE Treat Bars are made in Brampton, Ontario. We are 100% China free for processing and ingredient sourcing. None of our meat proteins, grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables in any of our recipes are processed in China, and none of our ingredients are sourced in China.

Do you use wheat gluten, or rice protein concentrate in any of your recipes?

No. Glutens from wheat and rice protein concentrate are an inferior source of protein and we prefer to use only premium sources of protein (in the form of meat, poultry and fish).

What is a meal (i.e. chicken meal)?

Fresh meat is converted into a meat meal by a third party using a cooking process. This process removes the water from the meat and allows pet food manufacturers to add meat meal as a dry ingredient. Meat meals are used in pet food to ensure a finished pet food kibble which is high in quality protein and more nutrient dense (since it takes 3 to 5 lbs of fresh meat to produce 1 pound of meal). In addition, meat meals have an increased shelf life as compared to fresh meat. At Petcurean, we ensure all of our meat meals are not preserved with ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT between slaughter and processing and require all of our suppliers and partners to use natural preservatives (Vitamin E). Petcurean only uses ‘named’ meat meals (such as chicken meal) in our foods as these meals are of higher quality protein source and are made only from muscle meats and bone.

What kind of preservatives do you use in your recipes?

Petcurean uses only natural mixed tocopherols* to preserve our food; we don’t use any artificial or chemical preservatives in our salmon meal or any of our pet food recipes (no ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT). We are extremely diligent regarding this issue and take extra steps to ensure all of our suppliers and partners are fully compliant. *Mixed tocopherols are also an excellent source of vitamin E

Is your food baked or extruded?

Our goal is to maintain the nutritional integrity of the ingredients we use in our recipes and so we extrude our foods at temperatures which are lower than typical baking. The end result; a nutrient-rich, highly digestible product for pets.

Where are the ingredients used in your products sourced?

GO!™ and NOW FRESH™ Products: All of the meat proteins, grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables in our GO!™ and NOW FRESH™ products are sourced from North America (as close to the production facility as possible) with the exception of our pasture raised lamb and grass fed venison which is sourced from Australia and New Zealand (from EU certified plants). We choose to partner with a trusted network of local farmers and ranchers who can provide us with the freshest and highest-quality product possible; this not only fulfills our requirement for freshness and nutritional integrity, but using local sources means less emissions polluting our air from long-distance trucking. We are 100% China free for processing and ingredient sourcing. None of our meat proteins, grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables in any of our recipes are processed in China, and none of our ingredients are sourced in China.

Who owns Petcurean?

Petcurean is a family owned business, and is still owned by the two people who originally founded the company in 1999.

Do you guarantee your products?

Yes, our products are 100% guaranteed. On the rare occasion that a pet will not eat or has a physical difficulty with one of our recipes, please return the bag to the store where you bought the product, along with your receipt, for a full refund or exchange for another one of our products.

What is your company’s stance on sustainability?

Petcurean is committed to sustainable business practices, and we are continuing to encourage the flexible packaging industry to invest in the research and development required to make our packaging 100% recyclable. For our GO!, NOW FRESH and SUMMIT recipes, the packaging’s plastic interior lining is made from material that currently can’t be recycled; since all of our foods are free of artificial preservatives, this layer is essential to ensure our premium-quality food is kept fresh and safe.

For GATHER, we searched high and low for a sustainable packaging option that is durable and is able to adequately maintain product freshness. We learned that in the waste reduction hierarchy, the most important factor in packaging sustainability is reducing the amount of material used, followed by reusing material, and then recycling or composting. This is why we selected to use a plastic that is made from 30% plant-based material instead of petroleum-based plastic. This earth-friendly plastic is produced from sugarcane, a plant that is highly efficient in terms of water consumption and captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while it grows.

With GATHER, we’ve also put extra focus around sourcing from suppliers with certified and organic ingredients which are sustainably produced. Every partner we considered as a provider of ingredients for our GATHER recipes were required to meet our strict criteria for sustainability, based on five key pillars, including:

  1. Following humane animal welfare practices
  2. Protecting water supplies and limiting water use
  3. Protecting farmer, rancher and producer livelihoods
  4. Ensuring the preservation of natural resources
  5. Actively working to preserve biodiversity

  • Had to switch from Orijen

    By on

We were happy with Orijen, but when they decided not to stock Chewy.com anymore with their food, we decided Chewy. com was more valuable to us and would consider making a change of dog food. We decided on this brand, mostly because it was most like Orijen from the ingredients and didn't want to interrupt our dogs' diets too much. They made the change easily, and probably seem to like this even more! So, we now get to stay with Chewy.com for their amazing customer service and their reliability, with a new food for our boyz that they like! Thank you !

  • Changed from Orijen to Go!

    By on

I was worried about switching my dog from Orijen to Go!, but had to since autoship ended, and thought I would give it a try. It has worked out so well! My dog loves is and is excited to eat again, rather than letting her food sit out all day. I even noticed when I put the new food in mixed with her old food she eats the new food, but leaves the old Orijen dog food in the bowl. Looks like this was a great choice to switch too!

  • Not yet....

    By on

We have not had the opportunity to try this food yet thus the 3 star rating. All of the ingredients check out great and it appears it is rated very high on certain sites. I plan on slowly integrating it into her other food to make sure she can tolerate it. I am looking forward to having her try it!

  • #1 Choice!!

    By on

Our golden doodle absolutely loves this brand. We like to switch it up and get a new flavor each time and our dog thinks she's getting spoiled with new food all the time. One of our local pet stores carried it but after it closed we were glad to find it on CHEWY. Very pleased with the quality of food and nutritious ingredients.

  • Just OK but not as good as Turkey - no longer carried

    By on

I bought this when Go! Turkey was no longer available. Both are rated 5 / 5 stars on Dog Food Adviser but my dogs loved the turkey but don't care for this. Chewy may be losing a customer.

  • Dogs love it, great ingredients...

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I found this when I was searching for a replacement for the Acana I used to feed after they changed (cheapened) their ingredient list. My three dogs love this food and I am very happy with the quality ingredients. I am also feeding the puppy formula to my youngster and she's doing great on it.

  • Good replacement for Orijen

    By on

Very pleased with this new kibble. I grew frustrated With Orijen, after feeding it to my dogs for years, and finding a good replacement was difficult. This GO! kibble is an excellent choice. It ticks all the boxes for desirable ingredients (and lack of undesirables). Unlike most or all of the high-end, US-made kibbles, it does not contain tomato pomace -- a cheap, nutritionally empty, pesticide-heavy filler. The kibble smells clean to my human nose, but how do you know when a kibble works for your dogs? The indicators are clean-smelling breath, good poos (well formed, firm, low-odor), regular bowel movements (no constipation or runs), silky coat, healthy (clean smelling) skin, good appetite Very pleased with this new kibble. All of that is true for my dogs after six weeks on this food. They transitioned to the new food easily, starting at 50 percent (they were already on a high-protein food). I think this is a keeper. NB: I add some water to the kibble because my dogs eat too quickly. They eat twice a day. They lick their bowls clean. … more

  • Great food, good value!

    By on

Slowly switched my dogs (95# and 75#) over to Go! Fit + Free from what they were eating, Orijen, after Orijen moved their manufacturing plant from Canada to KY. My dogs eat a combination of home cooked + kibble and both dogs are doing very well on the new food. My bloodhound who'd get looser stools on the Orijen is not having those on the Go! The chicken, turkey, trout formula has been very digestible and has been working well for both of them up to now. Hounds are not picky eaters so i gauge success by coat sheen, breath, digestive out put and healthy skin and ears. I would definitely recommend this food.

  • Made Switch from Acana Wild Prairie to Go!

    By on

I have bought Acana locally for my dogs over the last 5 years. Saw the packaging and name change a couple months ago, but didn't really think twice. I noticed my dogs licking their paws more often and then I read about Acana's recent switch and the reviews on Chewy.com. I wanted a comparable product with a fair price. I chatted with Chewy rep for 2 minutes and was quickly pointed to Canadian manufacturers that offer quality products and ingredients which was a lot better than me scrolling/reading through 100's of choices. After mixing Go! with Acana for couple weeks, my dogs have made a smooth transition with no effects. Licking seems to have subsided, but time will tell.

My dog likes this food and it's hard to find at the pet stores. I decided to order it and to my surprise it was neatly boxed and got here very quickly. I will be ordering food from here again.
