Transition Instructions

Many pets require up to 7 - 10 days to adjust to a new food because their intestinal tracts contain unique bacteria and enzymes that need to adapt to the proper digestion of a new food. Follow these guidelines for changing your pet’s current dry or canned food to Halo dry or canned food:

Days 1 - 3: 75% old food, 25% Halo Days 4 - 5: 50% old food, 50% Halo Days 6 - 7: 25% old food, 75% Halo Days 8+: 100% Halo

If you have a pet with a sensitive stomach, transition them even more slowly (over 2 to 3 weeks) to avoid digestive upset.

If your dog experiences digestive upset during the transition (poor appetite, vomiting, diarrhea or soft stool, etc.), return to the new food amount that was not causing problems and keep them there for a few more days before continuing with the diet change. Once your pet is eating all Halo if you change between the flavors, consider a 2 or 3 day transition to minimize stomach upset.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is canned food bad for my pet’s teeth?

No. While many vets recommend dry food to "keep teeth clean and healthy" it is a fact that many pets do not chew their food well enough to get any abrasive cleaning action from dry food. Whether you feed dry or canned food the single most important thing for dental health is tooth brushing.

Why does Halo refer to its products as natural?

Because it is! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines "natural" pet food as having ingredients from ONLY plant, animal or mined sources. These foods cannot be highly processed or contain chemically synthetic ingredients, such as artificial flavors, preservatives or colorings.

Why does Halo refer to its products as holistic?

The holistic viewpoint that Halo has stems from the belief that health is achieved by focusing on the whole body through natural living. Halo believes that the quality of ingredients a pet eats is the foundation of overall well-being but that elimination of harsh chemicals from food, treats and the environment is also critical to achieve optimal health.

Why does Halo use so much egg and peas in their formulations?

Halo uses eggs and peas as an additional source of highly digestible protein to support protein levels in all formulations. Halo does not use meat meal as a concentrated source of dried protein and uses only whole real meat ingredients. It is more difficult to achieve very high protein levels when using whole real meat instead of a meat meal. We feel the eggs and peas are healthier alternatives to meat meal.

Why does Halo avoid rice and corn in their foods?

Halo defines corn and white rice as "fillers". These are carbohydrates that may raise blood sugar levels rapidly and create hormonal signals that may have negative long term effects on metabolism and weight gain. Corn and rice based diets may also contribute to chronic symptoms of maldigestion, such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Halo makes healthier carbohydrate choices by using whole grains such as barley and oats and vegetables like sweet potatoes. These carbohydrates are nutrient-dense because they supply energy as well as high levels of fiber for digestive health and high levels of vitamins and minerals for overall health.

About Halo Wet Dog Food

America's Best Loved Holistic Brand
Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Holistic. Whole. Humane.

Halo is committed to providing no less than the best holistic recipes to satisfy your dog’s carnivorous cravings. Their wet dog food combines pure, natural ingredients like whole meat, poultry and fish plus non-GMO fruits and vegetables for delicious, more digestible meals. Following a whole meat philosophy, Halo never uses animal by-products or meat meals—just the real, whole proteins your dog needs to thrive.

Superior Digestibility

Halo believes that whole meat equals a whole lot more digestibility. As obligate carnivores, dogs need meat, not just parts of animals that you wouldn’t consider to be meat. When your pet gets whole proteins instead of rendered meats like chicken meal or fish meal, they’re getting optimum nutrition that’s easier for their body to digest. And that means they can get the full benefits of each nutrient-rich ingredient.

What's in Your Dog's Bowl?

With Halo, you won’t see a meat meal hiding anywhere in the ingredients, and there’s no corn, wheat, wheat gluten, rice or artificial colors, preservatives or flavors. Here’s what you will find:

Holistic Whole Meat: Salmon, whitefish, chicken or turkey that's slow-cooked provides a more digestible source of protein with up to 16 times less ash than rendered meat.

Non-GMO Produce: Fruits and vegetables from farms that refuse to use genetically modified seeds that rely heavily on chemical fertilizers and herbicides to produce crops.

  • The dogs say they love it!

    By on

I have two dogs. They both gobble this food. I feel good about feeding it to them because of the high quality ingredients; plus Halo has never been recalled as far I can tell. My only reason for not giving it five stars is I would prefer it was grain free.

  • My dogs hate the food

    By on

Not sure why but none of my dogs liked this food. I got the chicken and the beef but for some reason they smell the food, gave me a weird look and walk away. I have 2 morkies under 10 pounds and the female eats anything but this food did not please her at all. I really hope they would like it. I brought 2 cases now I am not sure what to do with them. The good thing is chewy gave me a 50% discount so I only paid for one case, thank God!

  • I think this is the best food! Canned or dry!

    By on

I have fed my cats dry Halo and now my 2 little Chis. One eats dry weight maintenance and the other has to have can. As much as I love Halo, I'm going to have to find a lower priced canned food.

  • TASTY & SMELLS GOOD!

    By on

Back to the saga of LUCY, THE PICKY EATER ... bought a couple of cans to try and she appeared to like it. So, it's our first case from Chewy. I give her half and mix in her NEW FAVORITE, cooked chicken livers with peas. Don't ask ... seems to be a winner so far!

  • Our picky eater loves it.

Feel so much better that our babies are eating better quality food. Our picky eater loves it and will now eat a full meal instead of just a bite of her previous food. When babies are good, mama is good.

I have been using this for a couple years my dogs love it my pocketbook doesn't. It does seem to be very well-made you can see peas and carrots and pasta in it. it doesn't smell like dog food. If you're looking for something that is high quality then I recommend this for you. I also use the dry version and it is very good also.
