  • Best Food for Renal (kidney) failure

    By on

This is the best diet to give your pet if they have kidney disease. Also very bland so good on sensitive tummies too! My dog (Autumn-10 yr old SF brindle boxer) prefers the original pate version (which I think is gross) but as long as she eats it and likes it I am fine with that. =-). They also make 2 "stew style" recipes that most dogs (just not mine-because it has miniscule pieces of carrot in it) really like. Hills has really stepped up with their renal control diets. In the olden days is was so gross most pets (especially cats) wouldn't eat it. The diet is only good if the animal actually ingests it. So kudos to Hills for their work on this product to make it MUCH more palatable This is the best diet to give your pet if they have kidney disease. Also very bland so good on sensitive tummies too! • Expensive, but worth it.

    By on

It's painful forking over this much money to feed to an elderly, 60+ lb dog every day, but it's worth it. My girl is in early kidney disease and I want to keep her happy and comfortable as long as possible. She does seem a little more peppy since switching to this stuff, and she loves it. I am feeding her canned rather than kibble, because it's so important for dogs with kidney disease to stay hydrated, and kibble is just way too dry. Plus, her teeth aren't the best anymore (she fought off oral melanoma which destroyed some teeth before she went into remission, and she also had to have some pulled during a dental).

  • My Shelties like it!

    By on

Only one of my dogs needs this but both like it. The key is adding water, lots of warm water. It looks like a thick soup or gruel but that's how she likes it and I figure the more water the better. She has maintained her weight and her BUN levels have stabilized. Wish I could feed her something else sometimes but as long as this keeps her relatively healthy and happy then that's fine with me.

  • KD original passed the taste test

    By on

My 14 y o female cockapoo was recently diagnosed with early kidney disease. The vet recommended Hills KD prescription food for her. She has always eaten a five star kibble and wet food, grain free, so I balked at some of the ingredients in this food. She appears to like it and has gained weight and has improved lab values. Whatever helps our old gal.

  • Kidney Care food

    By on

My dog loves this food, I make her treats because with her kidney disease she can only have special treats. I bake them in the oven for 30 minutes on one side, then I turn over and bake 30 more minutes at 350 degrees. She thinks she is getting something special and she loves them. I keep them in the refrigerator once they cool off.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that my 15 year old dog really liked the Hills Kidney Care original canned food. He has been eating Kidney Care for 6 months and his kidney blood tests and energy have improved.

My 16 year old poodle who has always been a finicky eater, took to this food right away. She no longer walks away with food left in her dish. I don't worry about her getting enough to eat.

  • Used to be good

Hills has changed this to a new formula and they call it improved. My sick little old dog will not eat it. Now I have to find another food for him. They should have left this alone.

Mac, our 2 year old boxer loves this wet food as a supplement to his dry food. We have also froze some of the wet food and cut it up into small snack bites as a treat.
