  • My Shelties like it!

    By on

Only one of my dogs needs this but both like it. The key is adding water, lots of warm water. It looks like a thick soup or gruel but that's how she likes it and I figure the more water the better. She has maintained her weight and her BUN levels have stabilized. Wish I could feed her something else sometimes but as long as this keeps her relatively healthy and happy then that's fine with me.

  • My dog likes it!

This canned food is a pate type of canned food. My dog is a picky eater, and I am very glad that my dog likes it. Chewy delivered the dog food quickly.

  • Sugar? Seriously?

    By on

So our dog now requires a renal diet and our vet recommended two options, Hill's being one of them. Both of them are big companies that have the resources to publish studies verifying their renal diet's validity, which doctors tend to require for recommendations, but both have unhealthy ingredients (like meat by-products and corn). This one even has sugar in it! I wish one of the companies that make high quality dog food would make a renal food. I tried Dave's but our dog didn't like it (and the vet said it wasn't backed by scientific studies)....

  • will not eat

    By on

Loves the dry would not eat the caned. . It is almost unknown for a healthy dog not to eat what it needs. Unfortunately, in too many cases, it is less than the package says, and less than the owner thinks the dog should have. Many dogs are quite good at holding out for tastier chow. Like kids, sometimes it calls for tough love.

  • K/D prescription food

My boy didn't care much for the sample we got from the vet for this product, but he's gotta eat. I was very pleased. I believe this shipment was fresher than my sample. It was moist and my bit eats it right up! Also love the having it delivered right to my house!

My elderly little Yorkie mix can be a very picky eater but she needed to be on kidney-friendly diet. Surprisingly, she has taken to it very well.

  • Best option

My dog has to stay on the KD diet. We tried all versions of this food and all brands. This is the only type she will eat. Don't get me wrong, this is not the most flavorful food out there, but for RX KD, this is a lifesaver! She eats and will come back for more.

  • I used to be skeptical of Hill's Science Diet brand

    By on

To be honest, I used to be very skeptical of Hill's Science Diet Brand, because so many people used to tell me it was just something vets endorse due to business partnership. I have two senior dogs and they always had organic high protein, no grain, premium dog food from dry, wet, rolls, etc, made in USA or Canada, throughout their lives. I spent more money on their food than my own. Then not too long ago, i found out one of my dogs was having kidney failure, I was so devastated as my vet told me the kidney can't heal itself. And her bun/creatinine levels were VERY high. By then, she had lost so much weight. Just bone and skin, peeing every 1 hour and sooo weak. But i just didn't want to give To be honest, I used to be very skeptical of Hill's Science Diet Brand, because so many people used to tell me it was just something vets endorse due to business partnership. But i just didn't want to give up without trying. My vet told me to give her Hill's presctiption k/d food meanwhile, along with few other supplements. But he told me not to have high hopes as she is 14 years old and he said kidney failure can't be 'healed' though i can at least prevent from it getting worse fast. It's been about over 2 months since her diet changed to the k/d. The vets are down right SHOCKED with her recent bloodwork. It shows that all levels are back to normal range. The chart still shows she has kidney disease present (mildly), but all her blood levels are normal and that's what matters most. She gained her weight and energy back. I thought she was just mellow as senior dog, but she got her young dog energy back too. I felt so sorry and guilty that she wasn't mellow due to old age but instead she was just sick and dying! *tears* She used to have crazy hyper bossy personality and that is back. :) Not only that, she always had sort of bald skin. She's short haired italian greyhound mix and always had very little fur or none in many areas, skin dryness. I've never seen her fur so 'luscious' (still practically nothing compared to normal dogs furs). Just. Mind. Blown. I don't necessarily regret giving her all those premium food in the past, because no one ever knows if she would've gotten kidney disease or not regardless. She might've gotten some other bad health conditions with 'less high protein' food and I still might've asked myself "what if i gave her only top notch food, could i have avoided this." I mean, i consider this presctiption diet still premium. Lol. But currently, all i care is that she's alive and healthy. And lol, I seriously have zero affiliation with this company but hill's prescrpt k/d seriously saved my girl's life and more. I am beyond grateful. I hope they keep up great work on creating life saving products. Oh and my dog LOVES the food. She chomps it down. … more

  • Terrible

    By on

If there was an option for no stars, I would use it. This is pork liver with the consistency of gelatin. It's gross to look at and my dog must think it's gross too bc he won't eat it. Do yourself a huge favor and don't subject your sick pup to spending the rest of his days eating this processed garbage.
