The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Dog Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your dog’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Key Benefits

  • Protects vital kidney and heart function and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
  • Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T.) technology helps increase the appetite and food intake.
  • Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
  • Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

  • What a Difference This Has Made

    By on

our crazy Phoebe (seriously) has many internal issues we didn't know about - including the worst breath and gas! Our vet suggested trying Kidney Care (she does have kidney, liver and heart issues) and what a difference it has made in her. The terrible breath has cleared up (literally smelled like urine sometimes), her gassy belly is pretty quite now and she has even put on 1 - 2 pounds since she has started this new food. I feel bad that we didn't start her earlier on this. Yes cost is an issue but we will work through that. Thank you so much!

My 10 year old dog has an health problem which affects in long term his renal function. He was leaking all the time, tired with low energy. Since on this renal food the leaks stopped, he has more energy than ever, he runs and plays and is always in a good mood. I barely write reviews but this is worth sharing. It wasn t the vet who recommend, we took the initiative to search and ask and i am glad.

  • Dog hates the new formula

    By on

Our Chihuahua, Collin, is on a special diet because he has a liver shunt, and his liver is failing: Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Dog Food, 8.5-lb bag He used to love this food, and he's been eating it for several years, ever since they found the shunt. They recently changed the formula of this food, and he doesn't like it; he doesn't want to eat it, so he doesn't eat as much food as he should.

  • Very low protien

    By on

Given that my big boned English Cream Golden has been diagnosed with kidney disease and is used to a high protein diet I can not adequately rate this product. Kideny diet has low protein content and the caned food is very watery with little bulk. Consequently, he no longer looks forward to this low protein kibble or canned food.

  • Thumbs Up!

    By on

My 14 year old dog has always been a picky eater so I was nervous she wouldn't like a new brand of food. But since I didn't have much of a choice because she needs to follow a kidney friendly diet, I ordered this. She LOVES it!! So happy there are not soft pieces because she doesn't like those at all.

  • Life saver

Goodie was recently diagnosed with early stage renal failure. Her previous kibble was 38% protein and her kidneys could not handle it. Within a few days on k/d there was a marked improvement. Her water consumption lessened and her need to pee dropped. It's been a while since she has had an accident in the house. Goodie likes this food which is a blessing.

My 14 year old shih tzu loves this food, he is in the early stages of kidney failure. We tried a sample provided at our vets office before ordering. Chewy.com was so helpful in contacting our vets office to get the prescription and made the process a lot simpler.

I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I received the product. I needed a prescription from the vet and it was taken care of immediately from the people at Chewy and the clinic. The product is more affordable at Chewy than other sites.

  • Gobbled it right up

    By on

My 13 1/2 year old pit mix was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and the vet recommended the HILLs K/D. I received it in less than 24hrs from Chewy.com how awesome is that?! He hadn't eaten for two days but as soon as I filled his bowl he gobbled it up. Some reviews said it had a bad smell to it but it smelled like any other dog food I have purchased. Keeping my fingers crossed that this helps my baby.

Tried the Royal Canine first and my dog decided she didn't like it. Chewy.com refunded my charge for that one when I explained I needed to order another brand! So far my little Dixie loves the Hills brand!
