  • So disappointed Hills!

    By on

After raising 2 dogs exclusively on Hills when my dog was diagnosed with liver disease the choice was clear. I wish this very expensive prescription food was offered in sample size or smaller sizes. My dog wouldn't eat this unless smothered in something else not good for her restricted diet. The texture is strange and the smell is putrid. I switched her to the other prescription liver care dog food and she loves it straight from the can and it looks and smells like regular dog food.

  • Good for all my dogs!

    By on

I have 4 Chihuahuas. One has a liver shunt condition, and has been on this prescription food for 2 years. Trixie is happy and healthy. My other 3 dogs are all fed this food, because it is easier to ensure that Trixie only eats her prescription l/d diet. Well, they all love it. I use one can for all 4, and usually do not have leftovers. Great food!

  • Not recommended

    By on

The consistency of the dog food was not the same as the first time I ordered this Hill's Liver Care dog food. It is very 'mushy' and my dog has difficulty eating it as it sticks to the insides of his mouth similar to the consistency of peanut butter. Maybe the recipe has changed but my dog does not like it this time.

  • Hills L/D Prescription Diet

    By on

My order was processed quickly and delivery was fast. My dog is actually eating this food, 1/2 cup per day in addition to dry food, - per Vet's orders. She would not eat other prescription diet food, so I am glad she is eating this one.

My dog can't eat his normal food anymore and we are so glad we found this for him to be able to eat something that doesn't hurt his liver!

  • Liver numbers coming down!

I've waited to write this review until we had the latest lab test back on our 12 year old smooth collie, Serena. We have struggled since a life-threatening bout of pancreatitis last December trying to get her AST/ALT numbers down. While she started feeling better after the initial crisis, her labwork still showed unacceptably high AST/ALKP readings after being on Denamarin for a month. Hill's Prescription Diet L/D (dry & canned) has made the biggest difference of all. We transitioned very slowly to the L/D, taking two weeks to completely move to 100% L/D diet. She LOVES the Hill's L/D, whereas she did not like Royal Canin's equivalent canned food. Since the lab work was done a month ago, Serena's AST dropped from 989 U/L to 558 U/L. Normal AST range is between 10-125 U/L for adult dogs. Her ALKP dropped from 500 to 401, with normal range being 23-212 U/L. Obviously we still have a way to go before hitting normal ranges, but this is the first truly encouraging change in numbers that we've seen since December. She will be on Hill's L/D Prescription diet for the rest of her life, and we hope to see even better numbers next month. … more

  • Good as a Food/ Lousy as a Wrap for Medication

    By on Top 250 Contributor

My 6 yr. old Springer Spaniel has elevated liver enzymes and Copper Storage Disease so she ABSOLUTELY needs to eat only a prescription liver diet. I had been using the Hills L/D canned to wrapped her various medications in but very recently the food has been EXTREMELY crumbly, making it VERY difficult to wrapped her various meds in a ball of canned food. I really didn't want to, but I had to switch to Royal Canin Liver Diet canned for this purpose. If you don't have to use the Hills L/D as a "pill hider", it's a good topper to add to the dry food. I only wish that my girl hadn't developed these 2 horrible diseases so she could go back to eating Acana but I am VERY glad that these options exist My 6 yr. old Springer Spaniel has elevated liver enzymes and Copper Storage Disease so she ABSOLUTELY needs to eat only a prescription liver diet. • Great food

    By on

My little Shih Tzu has a liver shunt and the vet prescribe this food for him. He loves it and I throw a little dry LD in it and he cleans his bowl. We have noticed a big difference in him after we started using it. I use to get it from our veterinary and just started getting it from Chewy and it is a lot fresher.
