  • Excellent Product for Liver Problems

Our 12 year old smooth collie, Serena, gets half kibble/half canned Hill's L/D.. That combination of Hill's Prescription Liver Diet has reduced very high AST/ALKP readings markedly in a month's time. I gave the actual lab numbers in the canned food review, and will focus this review on other issues. When she was so ill, her stools were liquid and the stench was extremely foul. With Hill's L/D, her stools are back to normal consistency and no longer have the nauseatingly vile aroma. Further, the stools are actually smaller than she had with other quality foods, prior to her liver problems. Serena loves this food, while she refused to eat the Royal Canin prescription for liver care. Other Our 12 year old smooth collie, Serena, gets half kibble/half canned Hill's L/D.. Serena loves this food, while she refused to eat the Royal Canin prescription for liver care. Other dogs may well prefer the RC L/D. Her coat is shining again, and she's back to chasing squirrels that run along the fence top. It is an expensive diet, but well worth it if the household budget allows. It may also save $$$ on vet bills. It may take several months, but my vet said he has seen just the prescription liver diet bring many dogs' liver readings back into normal range. That is certainly our hope for Serena. … more

  • Liver Issues

    By on

I took in a 4 yr old Maltese as a companion to my 13 yr old Maltese. She came from a breeder but never had pups. She was underweight at 5lb, 6ozs when I got her and now is 6lbs 8ozs. Found out she has liver problems so I bought the LD but have to chop it up in my food processor as she was not digesting it very well. Hope she takes to it. Please consider toy kibble or at least smaller for the wee dogs. Thanks Hills

  • keeping her alive

Although my darling girl was on death's door and has been diagnosed with an enlarged liver due to multiple masses (inoperable), she's been living an active happy life for the last 2 years. Her liver enzyme numbers have returned to normal ranges! My vet and I attribute her turn around to liver supplements and this food, which she'll be on for the rest of her life. I would give it 5 stars but my girl doesn't really dig the flavor.

The Chewy's part of this ordering experience was great. would have preferred to have a sample from hill's before purchasing such an expensive product. Also, Hill's might consider producing smaller kibbles for the small dogs.

  • Lowered liver function tests

I purchased this food as recommended by our vet for our 12 year old rat terrier who was found to have elevated liver enzymes. It is expensive, but found at a reduced price on Chewy. After a year her enzymes have decreased somewhat
