  • Great for dogs with liver shunts

    By on

My dog has a liver shunt and has a VERY specific diet she needs to follow. This food has just the right amount of protein for her damaged liver, and the protein it does have is processed a certain way that makes absorption easy. This food, along with some medications, has been a life saver for her! Obviously talk to your vet to make sure this is the right food for your dog, but I would highly recommend for anyone with a liver shunt dog. My dog has no problems eating it, but I also have a lab who eats anything. The reason I gave this product 4 stars is that I do not like how Hills in general sources their ingredients. And it's very pricey food for such low quality meat.

  • 3.5 stars- doesn't like the taste

    By on

I'm torn between a 3 and a 4. It definitely keeps him feeling a bit better than other foods he has been on. I've tried him on a vegetarian food, but he just had nothing but digestive upset and his poor tummy would bloat right up with gas... A big however with this food though is he will VERY unwillingly eat it plain. He also ends up not feeling as filled and satisfied on this food compared to his old foods. He ends up needing more to feel full and it's caused him to gain weight... Usually will add some scrambled egg whites and then he will scarf it right up. I dont know that any of the liver disease prescriptions diets are going to taste very good anyway, so I will keep feeding this to him for I'm torn between a 3 and a 4. • Great for copper storage disease

    By on

My dog Jericho, a rough collie, was diagnosed with copper storage disease earlier this year, and has to be on a low copper diet, along with medications for the rest of his life. We had a choice between Royal Canin Hepatic food, this Hill's Liver Care, or else to consult a nutritionist and make food for him homemade. We have another dog, and have my daughter's three dogs living with us currently, so homemade food would have been tough. We started with the RC and from June until November, he ate it well, then suddenly would NOT eat it at all. I read reviews of the Hills I/d and thought we'd give it a try. He absolutely LOVES it! I'm trusting that his levels are still ok with this food and his meds, but will have it checked again after he's been on it longer, but this food has been such a huge help as he would not eat the RC at all, even when we mixed in chicken and rice or other food, he'd pick around the RC and leave that. This food is well received by him and if it delivers what it promises for his liver health, it's a sure winner and I would HIGHLY recommend it, if your dog needs to go on special liver food. Definitely would choose this one over RC the next time. It has a better scent and my dog absolutely loves it. … more

  • Working well for my Labrador

    By on

My lab was diagnosed with liver problems... a stent and abnormal cells around his liver. He's 8 years old. Was vomited and had very low energy. After starting him on this food plus Denamarin, it's like we have a new dog. Full of energy, vomiting stopped and he's happy. He scarfs it down but he's a lab and will eat anything. Hope this keeps him around for a while.

  • a prescription diet that my dog actually likes!

    By on

My dog was found to have early liver disease, with copper accumulation, so the vet suggested a low copper diet. Very expensive stuff, but its working. And my dog likes it! He waits for his special food, even though the others are eating their regular food.

Our dog, Joey, has been diagnosed with liver disease and our vet recommended Hill's Liver Care Prescription Diet. Joey loves it. He's been eating it for about 3 years and his liver disease is currently under control. If Joey is happy, then we're happy!

  • l/d Liver care dog food

    By on

Hello, Gidget is happy with the new l/d dog food. Which makes me happy, as I was not sure she would like changing over foods. Before she was inconsistent about eating, now she is eager to eat. Hoping and praying this special food will help her with the liver problem. Thank you, Sue

My dog has liver issues and cannot tolerate most foods. I have tried many types, including Hills ID and Hills IZ. This formula works the best. Wish the size of the kibble was smaller.
