Hill's Prescription Diet u/d Urinary Care Original Dry Dog Food, 27.5-lb bag
Hill's Prescription Diet
Bladder stones are collections of mineral crystals that combine together in the urinary tract. They can cause discomfort and lead to more serious problems that require the care of a veterinarian. Because the food your dog eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to help support your dog's bladder health. Dogs need the right balance of minerals to maintain good bladder health. Excess minerals can encourage the formation of crystals in the urine, which can lead to the creation of bladder stones.
Controlled levels of high quality, highly digestible protein reduces the risk of non-struvite stone formation
Reduced levels of calcium helps limit the formation of bladder stones
Added taurine and high levels of L-carnitine help maintain healthy heart muscle function
Added antioxidants to control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system
Promotes desirable urine pH levels and supports an overall healthy immune system
Hill's Prescription Diets require a veterinary prescription. This product will not be shipped until a copy of a valid prescription authorization is faxed to 1-800-619-7973 or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results: Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food & treats. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.
A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food. In some cases, your veterinarian may recommend no transition or a shorter transition time.

A friend told me about your company. We had been buying all of our special diet dog food from our vet. We tried your service and could not be more pleased with the quality, easy of ordering, and timeliness of shipment. It also saved us a great deal of money. We are totally pleased with the ease of ordering our pet's food. Chewy has a new customer for life.--------Mike B.
New food for our pup
on Apr 27, 2017
Our pup was just diagnosed with bladder stones and we had to change his food. He normally does not do well with food changes but he loves this food and it was easy for him to digest. We are very pleased.
Perfect for urinary diet needs.

My dogs were converted to a urinary prescription diet due to bladder stones. This food is exactly what they needed after stone analysis was performed. They both love the food. Also, Chewy was amazing in getting the prescription clarified and food to our doorstep quickly.
The larger bags of special diet dog food far more economical.

Satisfied with product and vendor

My dog eats U/D food which you can only get from a licensed vendor (ie: the vet or Petsmart where they have vets). I order my other dogs food on Amazon but unfortunately we can't get this on Amazon. Love that Chewy has it and has auto ship!
Buster has been on this food for quite a number of years. He still has some stones but they are very very small and he hasn't had to have surgery since starting this food. Overall, very satisified.

My Itty Bitty can only eat hill's prescription u/d, and I could only get it at my vets office. It was always a hassle. I received my order in 2 days! Free shipping, a discount, and I didn't have to go to my vets office to pick it up! Best price, and auto ship = extremely happy customer. Thank you Chewy.com!

Vet recommended for our 14 year old Golden mix due to a urinary problem and it appears to be helping. We will know in a couple of weeks when we see the Vet again.

Male Shih Tzu has been on this for 5 years due to bladder stones. Until he started this, he had 3 surgeries, including a emergency neuter. He was only 14 months when he had his first! Then he had 2, a week apart, when he was 3. He is happy and healthy and I owe it to Hills RX Science Diet U/D and my Vet!!
Great food but could be better

This food serves its intended purpose. My dog had a rare type of bladder stones that lead to a blockage that the doctor believes he's had since birth. Instead of performing surgery, the doctor recommended this food in hopes that it would help the stones dissolve naturally. With in a few weeks, my baby was himself again and going to the bathroom like normal. I give this food 4/5 stars because of the taste. My dogs eats just about anything but he doesn't like this food. Since we are feeding this to save his life and really had no choice, he eventually gave in and ate it. If you are having a similar problem, put a bit of water on his or her food. This worked for our dog and he eventually got useThis food serves its intended purpose. My dog had a rare type of bladder stones that lead to a blockage that the doctor believes he's had since birth. Since this food is expensive, I would try the water on a small amount of food first so, if your dog still refuses to eat, you won't waste too much food. Remember though, your dogs main focus is survival. He or she will eat the food eventually if it is the only thing you offer. I know it can be difficult to see your pet struggle but this food can save his or her life.… more

Even though the price was not cheaper, than the regular store price, it was a convenient way of combining a food order for the different pets. The order was delayed for about a day and a half due to chewy.com need to contact the veterinarian to confirm the Rx order.
