Description

Food sensitivities and intolerance are potentially serious problems that can result in sensitive or irritated skin, coat and ear conditions or even gastrointestinal upset. Dogs that have a food sensitivity or intolerance, also called adverse reactions to food, typically experience an abnormal response to the protein in the food. If your dog suffers from adverse reaction to food, it is even more important to feed the right food. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet z/d clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your dog's skin and food sensitivities. In fact, z/d is clinically proven nutrition to help avoid adverse reactions to food.

Key Benefits

  • Helps improve digestion and stool quality with highly hydrolyzed protein
  • Helps eliminate food related causes of skin irritation and results in visible improvement to the skin and coat
  • Helps maintain a healthy skin barrier and enriched with essential fatty acid
  • Developed with a single carbohydrate source: Corn Starch
  • Clinically proven antioxidants are added for optimal health benefits

Special Note

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 137 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Questionable Value After seeing internal medicine specialists, my 2-year-old mini Australian shepherd was diagnosed with having either irritable bowel disease or a food allergy. She was prescribed this. When on the canned version, she has tiny, hard stool that she struggles to pass. Additionally, since she has been on this food, her potassium, albumin and phosphate have gone below the normal level. She gets regular blood testing, and after a week on this food, her levels got all weird. While it could be correlation and not causation, the doctors thought it was weird enough that it warranted a switch. We began the transition to the Royal Canin hydrolized diet today - so far so good on that. One of the theories for this food causing the problem is that it does not have chelated minerals - when minerals are chelated, they bind to protein and are easier for the gut to absorb, which is helpful to dogs with digestive problems. The Royal Canin does have chelated minerals, so we are hoping that'll turn the dog around. November 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dogs with Allergies My vet put my rat terrier on ZD dry food years ago due to his allergies and it worked wonders. Ozzy is an elder boy so he is getting fussy with what he eats. I decided I didn't want to change food but making the kibble moist took too much time. When I found the small can wet ZD I asked my vet to send a script to Chewy and they filled it! Much quicker than my vet since they had to order it & it took a full week + to get the order. Ozzy's happy so momma's happy. January 12, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by Glad this is available My dog has bad allergies and had been only been eating the z/d kibble for two months. Nothing else, no treats at all. He likes the kibble better than his old kibble. Now I can add the z/d canned food to the kibble, which I do once a day. This is a super treat for him. I'm glad it's available, and worth the price, as I just add a little to his food. He still scratches and bites himself some, but is way better. He will stay on this diet. January 6, 2017

Rated 5 out of 5 by Finally something that works! Our 10 year old Wheaton has suffered with allergies is whole life. Grass, dairy, beef, venison, kangaroo ( yes, I said Kangaroo. Apparently in the U.S. You can find it in food.). We have tried every medicine known to help, including the new so called miracle drug Apequel and nothing worked. After a bad reaction to the Apequel, he was admitted to our local emergency animal hospital. They told us about Hills Z/D dog food. They had canned on hand. It works so good that he is not on ANY medicine for allergies at all now. Finally something that works! December 14, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by Convenience and Price The convenience of having my senior dogs food delivered to my door was wonderful. He has been on the same prescription diet for several years so the accumulated cost has been appreciable. The savings with 'chewy' is very much appreciated. December 16, 2016
