Description

The Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness with Steel Nesting Buckles Enhanced Strength is a crash-tested dog car harness that keeps your dog safe while riding in the car. It has been designed as a dog safety harness, not a converted walking harness. The all-steel Nesting Buckle System is based on the engineering for harnesses used by rock climbers and linesmen ensuring strength and safety. With five adjustments points, it’s easy to get a near custom fit for any dog, regardless of size and proportions. The chest pad reduces stress on the trachea and sternum while dispersing kinetic energy across the chest of the dog. This is important during those rare but dangerous impact crashes. The chest pad and straps are also very comfortable, making this dog car harness great as an everyday walking harness. For maximum crash protection and to limit excursion, you should use the included carabiner to attach the harness to your car seatbelt system. If your dog cannot tolerate this level of restraint, you can also use the included 10-inch dog seat belt tether to provide a bit more range of movement.

Key Benefits

  • Broad, padded chest plate for extra protection and comfort
  • Compatible with any vehicle seat belt system
  • Includes a carabiner and 10-inch dog seat belt loop
  • Functions as an auto or walking harness, providing ultimate comfort by reducing stress on the trachea and sternum while dispersing kinetic energy across the chest of the dog
  • Five adjustment points for a perfect fit on all shapes and sizes

  • Great harness

    By on

I was looking for a harness that would prevent my dog from pulling, work with a seat belt, and be easy to put on and take off. It's a great harness. I have a border collie-Australian Shepherd puppy that gets fussy when you grab her by the collar and/or try to force her into harnesses. This one is great because you can put it over her head (give her a second to calm down and) and than clip the sides without worrying that a strap will fall off. It's a little heavy (which works for me since she has a lot of energy). I love the way it clips on and doesn't have any plastic that can easily break. My only concern is if the metal gets hot and can burn her (I have used this on hikes, daytrips to beach I was looking for a harness that would prevent my dog from pulling, work with a seat belt, and be easy to put on and take off. My only concern is if the metal gets hot and can burn her (I have used this on hikes, daytrips to beach cities and so far no issues). It does take a litte adjusting to figure out how the side metal belt buckle works and the dog needs to have a little patience to let you put this on. Luckily my dog figured out this means she is going for a drive or hike and lets me do this without issue. I keep the seat belt clip in the car so I can easily "buckle her in". It also works when you want to go to a restaurant and tie the leash around the chair or table. … more

  • Great harness, just not for barrel chested dogs

    By on

Purchased this harness and was very impressed with the quality. Giving a 4 star just because they did not state not for barrel chested dogs. I put the harness on my standard poodle (about 50 lbs) and immediately saw a problem. The metal triangular connector (on top side neck) was not sitting flat but pointed directly into his spine. The chest measurement stated for us to use a medium (at max length) but his neck was small enough to require the straps barely extended. The shape of his chest did not allow the leg straps to go far enough down his back and caused the clip to flip into his spine. Going to a larger size would not have helped as his chest was not even fully covered (a very deep Purchased this harness and was very impressed with the quality. • MUCH EASIER TO PUT ON!

    By on

I am loving this harness. It's quite sturdy and well made. We've had other harnesses, but this one is the best in my opinion. Our puppy - Zeus's Thunder and Lightning, a 13-inch Beagle - is almost a year old now and I thought it would be easier if I didn't have to actually lift him into his "car seat" we had for him. I still have to lift him into our SUV, but not over and into a car seat. Once I figured out how to put it on and get it over his head, it's a snap to put on and take off. Yesterday, he sat in front with me on the way to the dog park and seemed quite happy. I would recommend that purchasers watch the video which is really helpful.

  • Safe and Sturdy

PRO: The harness protects the dogs while driving. They are not capable of getting close enough to the window where they could potentially hurt themselves. I haven't crashed my car or had to slam on the brakes since having this product, but I will be sure to update my review if one of these occur while my dogs are in the car. ...knock on wood... I am happy to have a harness that will protect my dogs in the case of a minor accident. CON: The dogs get a little nervous and end up twisting themselves up in the seatbelt. I do believe this will not be much of an issue once they truly get used to wearing it in the car. PRO: It is safe and secure to use as a leash for a normal basis. I do believe this will not be much of an issue once they truly get used to wearing it in the car. PRO: It is safe and secure to use as a leash for a normal basis. CON: The front D-Ring does not offer a no-pull solution for dogs like mine who are notorious pullers. The front, padded part of the harness ends up twisting and moving from their chest when they start pulling. PRO: The harness seems very durable and like it will last a long time. CON: The material of the harness is rough on the skin of dogs like mine because they do not have any fur to buffer the rough material from their skin. Also, the snap button that holds the chest piece and the straps in place seems to disconnect a little more easily than I believe it should. NOTE: After watching the video that Chewy provides on their website, I feel that I was correctly adjusting the harness and the dogs were wearing it properly. As always, I am willing to adjust the fit and try something different in the case the dogs were wearing it wrong, and I will update my review if that is the case. … more

  • Harness runs small

    By on

I should've paid more attention to others' reviews when I ordered a harness for my 4-month old micro Bernedoodle puppy: it's very snug, even though she's on the low end of the weight range for the size I ordered (small). She weighed 10.25 lbs when she first wore it and I struggled to get it over her head. Once I did, it fit fine, but I'm afraid it won't fit her much longer. I should've ordered a Medium. Highly recommend sizing up!!

  • well built, fit not exact

    By on

these work really well. Very well made. The only reason I gave it a 4 rating versus 5, is bc using the "fit" chart, it is off a little. I got a small for my 22 lb bischon. I used all the measurements it asked for and he came up a small, but it is a little big. I'm still working with all the ways to take it up on his chest, so maybe it will eventually fit if I keep tweaking it. Would purchase again and I definitely recommend it

  • I'm confused!!!

    By on

I have had this harness for about 10 days now andI find it extremely difficult to put on my dog, in fact I haven't been successful yet. While the instructions say to "wrap" the chest straps, the harness I was sent has no way to wrap. And, unlike the photo shown, there are no chest straps with a fastener. The one I have just has buckles buckles everywhere. I am planning to send it back, unless you can explain it to me. Thank you.

  • Recommend only for certain breeds

    By on

I guess my Weim puppy's chest hasn't filled out enough yet because when I strap her in this harness, it always lands ender her right armpit and it looks so uncomfortable. I'd hoped it would sit evenly on her chest and still hold her in the seat. If I loosen it so it's not so tight, it gives her too much room to turn her body left and right. She's 6mos and about 55lbs, so I believe I have the correct size harness.

  • Great Harness

    By on

I have a 12 month old boxer and this harness has been fantastic for her. It takes all of the pressure off of her neck and trachea. I make her sit when putting it on, so the buckles are easy to use. I recently had to throw away her harness because she was diagnosed with some skin issues and the fabric could cause her to be reinfected...SO I'M ORDERING ANOTHER ONE!! For traveling with a big dog, this is a must have.

  • life saver for walking my husky

    By on

My dog pulls like crazy with most leashes but this one has been so helpful with training her. In the beginning it took some getting used to because I didn't realize the intended walking clip is on the front (if it is attached to the back, she pulls). Also, being sure to take time to adjust it helps with walking. But I love it! I use it for that purpose- rarely for the seatbelt way
