I hesitate to give a bad review, because overall I feel Merricks makes a good dog food. I have 4 dogs and go through a lot of food. I change brands from time to time for variety, but have bought many cases of Merricks in the past several years. In that time, I have only had 2 issues. 1st issue- bought a case of Wingaling. 4 out of the 12 cans did not contain a wing, or any meat at all. Merricks customer service is not the best, and they reluctantly gave me a refund for the 4 cans after much back & forth.( I had not bought that case from Chewys-wish I had- learned my lesson).
But just yesterday I opened a can of Brats and Tots. At first, I thought there was rice inside the can, until it started moving. There were live maggots inside the can! The can itself was dented, but not punctured or compromised in any way. I immediately called Chewy and they are crediting my account. I also emailed Merricks, but they gave me the standard response-
"Thank you for bring this to our attention and we will pass it along", blah, blah. No offer of compensation or apology.
I am not buying Merricks anymore- sticking with Dave's from now on.

Larger dogs may do well with this on but it wasn't good for my small and tiny dogs due to the size of the meatballs. I ended up having to chop them up to avoid possible choke hazards for the small gulpers or so that the tinies could pick up a bite more easily. My standard poodle seemed to enjoy. My Pom completely refused - he can be picky.

You can't beat these BIG CHUNKY meals. They are the best. My dogs firmly agree.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BB59 Merrick Brauts-n-tots canned dog food
Though my dog seems to love the "smothered comfort" he just won't eat the Brauts-n-tots. I tried to get him to eat it on several occasions but the rounded balls of meat in gravy just did not appeal to my dog's taste. I did not see any carrots, green beans, apples in the three cans that I opened. Just balls of meat in a brown clumpy gravy. Will continue to buy other Merrick products that seem to be less processed than this recipe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by FatherofMoo Quality seems high but so do the volume of farts
We feed our greyhound a mix of Wellness CORE Original kibble and Merrick grain-free canned food. He seems to enjoy it judging by the rate at which he inhales it all but the byproduct seems to be not only a signficant increase in the frequency of passing gas but the potency of odor is enough to bubble paint off the walls.
Frankly, we think he thinks it's hilarious. We'll look over when he's dropped a real wallpaper peeler and there he is on his back, legs spread everywhere with this little grin on his face.
His bowel movements come with regularity and after a stretch of inconsistent consistency of the stools, things seem to have settled into a steady offering of chocolate soft serve ice cream.

The meat balls were too big for the little doggies. I had to cut them up. Smaller balls would be nicer, but they did like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Judechet Excellent food
I have three greyhounds and they love this food. One of my pups is a finicky eater but she rushes to eat this food. I squash up the meatballs and put just a little in their food after I warm it up in the microwave. Their kibble is Merrick's Texas Beef grain free and they love that too. One pup has allergies and this canned food and kibble keep the allergies under control. I recommend this food to everyone. I think the best way to serve it is to warm it up, squash the food, and mix it in the kibble. Works for me.
