Rated 5 out of 5 by JeffR Does the job well
We just adopted a rescue pup who's just about a year old. She's not completely house trained, but she's getting there. We use this gate, plus a couple of others to restrict her to the den, kitchen, and front hallway when we're all downstairs. It's well constructed and easy to use. It's made to bolt into the walls, but I just lean it outside the wall to cover the opening. I really didn't want to drill into newly painted walls. Otherwise, it's a greatr product

Rated 3 out of 5 by Alei made with toothpicks
By the time it arrived at my door, the wooden slats had already come apart from the main frame. $34 is very cheap for a pet gate, but it looked like it was made for less than $5. The 3 stars is because the company was great and gave me a refund as soon as I called in. They didn't even ask me to ship it back, which leads me to believe that the issue I had was a common one. To sum it up, great customer service, not so great product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Julie Very Weak
The gate can absolutely extend as far as it says it can, however it becomes very weak and will bow out from the middle when pushed against even in the slightest. A dog would never be contained by this unless something is done to anchor it to the floor as well. Watch a puppy rip it out of your wall.

If your dog weighs more than 15 pounds this gate will not hold

Rated 1 out of 5 by Berkshiresue2 Not recommended for daily use
I have owned three Midwest extra wide gates over the years. The first one lasted about 5 years as a permanent set up, and using the slide gate many times in the course of the day. The last two gates didn't even make it through two months each before the slats started falling out. It would seem that the company's manufacturing standards have changed for the worse. The last two gates seemed flimsier than the first one I had. The wood was a lesser grade, and clearly the glue holding the slats in place has a life span of about 2 months. It surprised me that the item comes with a one year warranty. I would not recommend this product based on my experience. If I could have given this a zero rating I would have.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Schmooey Good and wide lightweight gate
I'd recommend this gate if you need to restrict a small or older pet who won't try to climb or physically challenge it much. Our older 30 lb Sheltie mix noses around it and is pretty easily discouraged, so it keeps her from going down the wide stairways of our back deck. The wooden gate is well made, but is only about 30" high. The hardware is pretty lightweight and would be no match for a rambunctious lab pushing or climbing with any force.
