The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Fish Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • My Dogs Love Them All

    By on

My dogs love every variety of this food and have never had any issues when I switch them from one to another. When I do, I *usually* mix the last bit of one bag with some from the new flavor for a couple of meals but I'm not sure it's really necessary - when I've forgotten to do that they suffered no ill effects. We're avoiding chicken so haven't tried any chicken varieties, but they love all the ones we've tried.

  • My picky dog!!!!!

    By on

My dog is 10 years old and 5 years ago she started itching really bad. We finally found a great vet that has put her on proper prescription and recommend chewy.com for this specific food. My dog is so picky she will not eat until she can't take it and finally gives in. This brand she absolutely loves and is great for her diet for her itchy skin. I absolutely love the free 2 day shipping and the automatic shipping option.

  • Lily loves it

    By on

Lily, our labradoodle, began showing signs of possible food allergies (losing hair, scratching and licking). Our veterinarian suggested Natural Balance. Lily took to it immediately, and her allergy symptoms have improved markedly in just two weeks. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we see continued improvement.

  • Expensive but supposed to be a better brand

    By on

My Vet has said to go from feeding Dog Chow to this formula for a more active life style for him. Trooper is a Cocker Spaniel (9 yrs old) and a regular dog go get a cat or a bird and loves to swim. Trooper has been eating out of this bag for about 2 weeks and he doesn't show anything different. When Trooper does his #2, he now does it 3 times a day instead of 2. His poo doesn't smell nearly like the Purina Dog Chow when he goes, so that's a plus. When picking up his poo in a bag, it's a bit harder instead of that Dog Chow soft and messy on the ground.

  • Great food for a dog who has food allergies.

    By on

When I got my terrier mix from the shelter, I started him on some natural dog food that had meat and berries and vegetables and all sorts of other stuff in it. He was allergic to something in it, so I started using Natural Balance and he has not had any issues since. I change up the formula every other time I order it to give him some variety, and every formula works with his allergies. I love this food.

  • Free of chicken and chicken by products.

    By on

I have a dog that has a sensitive stomach and one that gets very bad ear infections. My vet recommended that I not feed them anything with chicken etc. in it. Other products say they are chicken free but have eggs or other chicken by products in them. My vet recommended this Natural Balance and they both love it and have had no problems since they have been on it.

We have 2 wheaten terriers who don't get along with most standard foods. Natural Balance was recommended to us, and almost completely ended incidence of upset stomach. A little pricy, but worth the cost.

  • Dutch/german shepherd with GI issues

    By on

Our rescue dutch/german shepherd had GI issues from day one when we got him at 16 weeks. He's had every bug you can think of. Giardia, cdiff, Coccidia, plus had PICA (eating non food objects, preferably poop) really bad. He was losing weight instead of gaining weight. Everything was treated but every time he would come off the antibiotics his diarrhea would come right back. Tested negative for EPI. So we figured food sensitivities was contributing. Tried this food and also put him on Tylan powder for a couple of months. Now off the Tylan powder and his poops are still formed!!! So happy! To note, common food sensitivity for dogs is CHICKEN and certain dog foods put chicken meal in everything Our rescue dutch/german shepherd had GI issues from day one when we got him at 16 weeks.
