The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Fish Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • Dutch/german shepherd with GI issues

    By on

Our rescue dutch/german shepherd had GI issues from day one when we got him at 16 weeks. He's had every bug you can think of. Giardia, cdiff, Coccidia, plus had PICA (eating non food objects, preferably poop) really bad. He was losing weight instead of gaining weight. Everything was treated but every time he would come off the antibiotics his diarrhea would come right back. Tested negative for EPI. So we figured food sensitivities was contributing. Tried this food and also put him on Tylan powder for a couple of months. Now off the Tylan powder and his poops are still formed!!! So happy! To note, common food sensitivity for dogs is CHICKEN and certain dog foods put chicken meal in everything Our rescue dutch/german shepherd had GI issues from day one when we got him at 16 weeks. • Our Dogs Love It, and It Loves Them

    By on

Our dogs have stomach issues, and I was really happy with our fish/potato limited ingredient food. It was discontinued, but Chewy immediately recommended a replacement. It sounded even better, but the test, of course, was whether the dogs would eat and tolerate a new food. They love it and have no issues since they started it two weeks ago.

  • Very pleased

My dog only eats this food and I have been buying it for a very long time. I looked at other places to purchase this product and stumbled on this site. This online store has competitive prices, free shipping and does not charge taxes. The package arrived on time. I will be using this store in the future. Thank you

  • Will use nothing else but Natural Balance

    By on

I have 2 big dogs and when they were very young, I had issues with itchy skin and loose poops with both as they have sensitive stomachs. I tried every food out there and when I tried Natural Balance that was it. Poops are perfect, they have beautiful skin and coats and no allergy issues now. They are almost 12 now and are very active and happy and I feel using Natural Balance has kept them that way. This sweet potato and fish is one of their favorites.

  • Now my dog is off Science Hill KD

    By on

Upon adopting my 1 ish pup, he failed to thrive. Tests concluded, acute kidney failure. He almost died. Had to be rehydrated several times. So at the time Science Diet KD kibble and can was food of nessesity. He is 3 now and KD is $90.00 a bag!!! Can't afford this! Who can? Did a few months of research and decided to go with grain free Natural Balance sweet potato and fish formula! It has been great! He loves his food, has developed more muscle as a little more protein in this. Still at .08 phosphorous! Yes, he poops more but so glad I am saving over $40.00 per bag! No kidney issues and KD has some bad ingredients in it!

  • Impressed so far

    By on

We adopted our little pom mix last August and have had a terrible time finding food that doesn't upset both her skin allergies and also digestive issues. We tried Wellness, and although a little better, she still was having loose stools. But after one day of eating this food, I've already seen a big improvement in her potty habits. It's only been less than a week, so we'll see if it continues to help. My only complaint would be how hard it is. I wet it with warm water first to soften it, and she loves it.

  • Disappointed in ingredient change!

    By on Top 250 Contributor

I have used this formula on and off for years for my dogs as they love it and do so good on it. BUT I have to say I am very disappointed that Natural Balance is changing their formula. The food has always had Salmon and Salmon Meal, but now the formula is listed as Salmon and Fish meal. I don't like that it is no longer listing a named meat, ex. Trout, Salmon, Whitefish etc...with how it is listed, they can literally put different types of fish meal in each batch. Dogs with allergies do not need that. I feel let down now.

  • Great product

    By on

We've been giving this brand and flavor to our Golden for 6 years and she still loves it! She has an allergy or sensitivity to chicken and chicken by-products found in most dog foods. This food gives her great nutrition and satisfies her hunger without creating weight issues.

  • This stuff smells horrible!

    By on

This seems like a high quality product--the food looks good, fresh, and wholesome. Even the packaging is sturdy along with colorful and easy to read. That said, I really WISH I hadn't spent what I did on it as it is terribly smelly. Our dog's breath smelled horrible and fishy as a result of eating it and the bowl of food smelled foul. The dog ate it three times, and then wouldn't touch it again. Would like my money back to purchase a different flavor (from the same company. Let people know before they buy that this has a STRONG FISHY odor.)

  • She loves it

    By on

My picky eater took to this food as lthough it were chicken. Thanks for suggesting it. When this sample is gone I will be looking to replace with a large bag. Hopefully it comes in a senior or diet version version to match her appetite to her weight control. Once again Thanks Chewy for the help Jack
