The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Venison Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • New Formula

I buy this food for my lab, who has a chicken/fowl allergy ironically. Its annoyingly difficult to find dog food without some form of chicken in it. This formula a few of the other flavors do not have chicken in them, which is awesome. My dogs used to love this food, the lab (who is not picky at all) would eat it, the aussie is a little pickier but she ate it too. I bought a new bag for them about a week/10 days ago. I noticed the food smelled different, but didnt think much of it. For about 3 days with the new food, both dogs refused to eat the new food. I just checked on chewy.com at the ingredients of the food and the company (Natural Balance) changed the formula. • Dog wont eat, new formula possibly

    By on

My dog has food allergies. She originally was on royal canin potato and venison which was great but the food was way to expensive so i decided to switch over to natural balance for the cost. At first it was great for a month or two she was able to eat all of it but i bought a new bag recently and she will eat less than half her bowl and leave the rest. Im not sure why possibly a new formula but now im probably switching back to royal canin :(

  • One dog won't eat it

    By on

Originally used Acana singles duck and pear, which both greyhounds ate well, but it was exorbitantly expensive for two large dogs, so I switched to Natural Balance duck and sweet potato. Both dogs were happy with this; but as there were stocking issues we tried the venison. I have NEVER seen the boy turn his nose up at food...he tries to eat poop! However I cannot get him to eat this. Mixed it with yogurt, broth, canned food...he picks it out and leaves this. The girl seems to love it and has gained a few pounds sneaking his leftovers -- however, as I have never seen him avoid food this definitely gets 2 stars.

  • Good quality, Happy dog

    By on

Our dog has had allergies since day one. We don't know what she is allergic to, but we went through many different dog foods thinking it was the food..... it wasn't. We believe her allergies are related to something in the environment. However, she has been on this food for several years. She's happy and we're happy. We found the price with Chewy is excellent. And having it delivered is much easier than having to cart it home.

  • Immediate reaction for our allergic dog

    By on

We were unsure what was causing an allergy in our dog resulting in itchy skin, so we tried various grain-free formulas. Too early to tell if poultry was the cause of his itchy skin, but we got an immediate response in his stool firming up with this. It's now normal, according to the vet. Perhaps he has an allergy to poultry, because we tried him on grain-free duck. Anyway, highly recommend a try for allergic dogs.

For some strange reason my dog has become VERY FINIKY! I now have two open bags of grain free food that she won't eat. The food she likes gives her skin problems. Not sure what to do....

  • Great for sensitive stomachs and regular movements

We have a 10 year old lab mix who has struggled with allergies the last 6-7 years. We have tried different proteins and he did best on venison. We switched up his food a couple months ago because of his health. This LID food with Venison has been great for him. Much more consistent #2's and he has really enjoyed the taste. We stir a little warm water with the dry food before we give it to him and he goes to town. He was a grazer before, taking mouthfuls around the house to eat a little bit at a time.
