The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Venison Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 - 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • So far so good .....

    By on

I recently switched to Natural Balance LID from Ancana and have been extremely pleased with the results to date. I have a staffy mix who has had an number of poor reactions to food. In addition the protein content in his previous food was probably too high. I’ve seen an improvement in his stool and he seems to be less itchy. His cute pink belly actually came back after turning darker with some of the other foods. So far so good. Thanks again to Chewy for you’re great service.

  • Excellent for pups with allergies!

My Rottie has Inflammatory Bowel Disease due to protein allergies. He has been on prescription foods and done very well with them, but they are just too expensive for me to realistically keep him on his entire life. So I did some research and tried the Natural Balance Duck and Potato first. He did fantastic! Solid poop! No tummy troubles! But he is spoiled and got bored with the flavor so I gave the Sweet Potato and Venison a try. He eats this flavor with a passion! and with the same results! No allergic reactions, good poops, tons of energy and a beautiful glossy coat! • You get what is labelled, nothing else

My mastiff mix is riddled with allergies. Anything with wings, grains and high counts of fish, so finding a food she could eat was a battle. Everything either uses chicken fat as a preservative, or just adds in poultry to their "venison" diet. Natural Balance doesn't! What is labelled on the front of the bag as their meat source, is what you get! Their limited ingredient, natural diet is really the best! I have never seen my girls coat so shiny until I put her on Natural Balance. Her favorites are Venison and Bison..now with the added in Lamb Puppy recipe since we have a new pup in the house. Which, also makes me insanely happy! Finding a puppy food that didn't have chicken, was nearly impossible My mastiff mix is riddled with allergies. • I have to beg my dog to eat

    By on

My 16 mo old female lab has been having major itching on her belly and feet, so my vet recommended this brand as a limited ingredient diet in the event she has food allergies. Mealtime used to be a romping event of excitement with her previous food and now I have to beg and coax her to eat. She won’t eat the food in one sitting, she eats it over a period of time. Makes me so sad!! I don’t know if a different flavor would make her happier??

  • dogs do not like

    By on

I got the Natural Balance sweet potato and fish and the sweet potato and venison. Put a little of both down so they can have a variety in their food but they will not eat the sweet potato and venison. They eat the sweet potato and fish and let the others lay. Wait until they have the one they like before they will eat again. And yes, they are spoiled rotten.

  • Not as good as other Venison items

    By on

I tried this as a replacement item, since some manufacturers are having difficulty sourcing Venison currently. My male, the finicky one, would not touch this (I mix 50/50 with another product) He knew something was different. My female; well she'll eat anything you put in front of her. I don't think she came up from the bowl long enough to smell a difference. I try to feed my dogs something that both will eat and this did not meet that desire.

  • Fantastic food for dogs with sensitive tummies!!

    By on

My senior greyhound has had a horrible time trying to find a dog food that has worked with her. She has IBS and has a chicken food allergy and our vet recommended natural balance. We tried it and will never look back. This food works so good for her! It gives her solid poops and keeps her tummy issues calm. Fantastic food and will continue to buy this product.

  • Amazing difference

    By on

I am partnered with an amazing yellow lab who is my service dog and best friend. She was on a different food brand during her advanced training with the program. When placed with me I put her on a variation of that same food (TOTW prairie). I struggled to keep her weight in check when I was less active because of my own health issues. I reached out to her puppy raiser, who graduated with a degree in Animal Science, and she suggested this food. She was raised on this brand by her puppy raiser and she swears by it. Getting nowhere with reduced rations and green beans, I switched. It has been since 18 days since I started the change over. I mixed kibble for about 5 days. Getting nowhere with reduced rations and green beans, I switched. It has been since 18 days since I started the change over. I mixed kibble for about 5 days. The changes are HUGE. She has dropped 5 pounds and is ripped now. We added in daily treadmill sessions as well. She started at a walk for 10 minutes and now does 20-25 minutes at 3.7mph every morning. Why every morning? Because if I want to rest at all after I get the house to myself she needs to take the edge off her energy. She begs to go on the treadmill. Her coat is glossier. Her occasional butt scooting is gone. Her ears, which were prone to wax and gunk, are now clear and do not bother her at all. No more begging for those deep ear scritches multiple times a day that are then followed by head shaking. Yes, the food is pricier but it goes further. I am feeding less and she is more content. Her meals always go in a food toy to slow her down a little. I kee 1/4 cup out of her daily allowance of 2 cups (for a 70 pound ripped lab) for training rewards through the day. I also have a degree in Animal Science and have always been very aware of what I am feeding my dogs. I have always given them the best my budget allows. Even though you are paying more for less, it is totally worth it. If your dog is having any issues I would highly endorse a version of the Limited Ingredient Diet from Natural Balance. We have seen nothing but positive results. Please excuse any grammatical errors. I have suffered over 2 dozen concussions along with my other issues. My brain doesn’t always succeed in getting the words out perfectly. Thanks. … more

  • Food Allergies

    By on

My fur baby has developed allergies over the years, and about 18 months ago we discovered foods were the cause of some of the allergies. This began our quest for LID foods that wouldn’t cause rashes. After trying a few different types, we found this formula which has been great! This seems to work as well as the prescription diet we tried which was twice the cost.

  • Great company

    By on

Delivery was immediate. In addition, I purchased a dog bed with my dog food order. The bed was not exactly as I thought it would be and upon calling for a Return authorization, I was told to donate the dog bed and forget about returning it. This bed is being donated to a dog rescue site. Thank you Chewy for being a great company to deal with.
