The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Chicken & Sweet Potato Small Breed Bites® Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

Customer Reviews

Natural Balance L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Chicken & Sweet Potato Formula Small Breed Bites Grain-Free Dry Dog Food is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best We Have Found When we got our two tiny chihuahua puppies, it took some time to find a dry food that was small enough for them to handle that also had the nutritional items we wanted. We found both in Natural Balance Limited for Small Dogs and have been feeding it for over a year now. They took to it easily and we free feed it in the afternoon to make sure their blood sugar stays up. I did a good bit of research on dry dog foods, their ingredients, reviews, and quality and it was a good choice. We have used other foods for previous dogs, but this one fits our needs best and I would recommend it confidently. Our girls have grown up strong and healthy with amazing coats and energy, and Natural Balance will be a part of their diet as long as they eat it with gusto. They like it. We like it. It works. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great nutrition for picky eater Recently, I rescued a 14 year old toy Poodle (8lbs) from a kill shelter. He is a good boy but very picky with "dog food". He was malnourished and you could feel every bone jutting out. I experimented with another top quality brand, but he smelled it and walked away with his nose in the air LOL. Natural Balance was recommended by my Vet so we tried it. For about a month I added hot water to soften the kibble, gradually adding less and less water. He loves this kibble and eats it heartily dry now. And, gaining weight!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great limited ingredient choice. There are not a lot of "smalll bites" dog foods on the market where all the ingredients are healthy. This is one of the few and my dog loves it. We don't feed our dog grain either. I wish the small breed variety which is the small bites came in more flavors besides duck and chicken.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nutritious and tasty My Russell Terrier eats this everyday and sometimes empties the bowl even after having his daily Natural Balance wet food also made for small breeds. The great thing is that it is easy for him to chew with his misaligned teeth and it has good stuff for his coat and skin too. We're very happy with this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Product I switched to Natural Balance for Small Breed after my dogs were too picky about the Blue Freedom for Small Breed. I continue to have to coax them to eat this one on a regular basis as well. Since they suffer with allergies, it is better than their original Purina One Small Breed food (which they liked) for their allergies,, therefore, I'm hoping they get accustomed to the new taste soon. They are about 1/2 way through their 1st 12 lb bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good healthy dog food My miniature Schnauzer likes this food. I have a friend who has been feeding his dog the same brand and flavor for 8 years. Cant go wrong with Chewy price and 2 day delivery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great food for dogs with dietary restrictions. We have a puppy that needs a low protein dog food and this is great because the protein is low and he has had no adverse effects from this food. I recommend this item.
