Weight Daily Feeding (Cups)
Up to 10 lbs up to 1
10 - 20 lbs 1 - 1 1/2
20 - 30 lbs 1 1/2 - 2
30 - 40 lbs 2 - 2 1/2

The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Chicken & Sweet Potato Small Breed Bites® Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

  • Small Breed Dog Food

I have been using this brand for 4 years now since I rescued two small dogs. I find this food excellent for them. Chewy is the place to order. Prices are better than other sites and stores that I have purchased this before.

  • Good Product

    By on

I switched to Natural Balance for Small Breed after my dogs were too picky about the Blue Freedom for Small Breed. I continue to have to coax them to eat this one on a regular basis as well. Since they suffer with allergies, it is better than their original Purina One Small Breed food (which they liked) for their allergies,, therefore, I'm hoping they get accustomed to the new taste soon. They are about 1/2 way through their 1st 12 lb bag.

  • Natural Balance L.I.D. dry food

I have been using Natural Balance LID canned food for years because of my three dogs with severe allergies. I decided to add dry food for their teeth and they love it.

My older pup who's pretty small loves this food! The other food he would only eat once a day. Now he stands by his bowl waiting for dinner.

I like this crunchy nutritious dog food. The small bite size makes it easier for my little dog to chew.

  • Nutritious and tasty

    By on

My Russell Terrier eats this everyday and sometimes empties the bowl even after having his daily Natural Balance wet food also made for small breeds. The great thing is that it is easy for him to chew with his misaligned teeth and it has good stuff for his coat and skin too. We're very happy with this.

  • Great nutrition for picky eater

    By on

Recently, I rescued a 14 year old toy Poodle (8lbs) from a kill shelter. He is a good boy but very picky with "dog food". He was malnourished and you could feel every bone jutting out. I experimented with another top quality brand, but he smelled it and walked away with his nose in the air LOL. Natural Balance was recommended by my Vet so we tried it. For about a month I added hot water to soften the kibble, gradually adding less and less water. He loves this kibble and eats it heartily dry now. And, gaining weight!!!
