  • Great food for my dog

    By on

My dog, Sam, is a golden retriever. He has food allergies to most commercial dog food so I got into the habit of making is his food (primarily chicken and brown rice). This was fine for a while before he developed allergies to just about any animal protein. His vet put him on a soy based product which alleviated most of the allergy symptoms but caused him to gain too much weight. I tried Instinct Venison on my own because there doesn't appear to be a lot of by-products in the food. The result has been great! Sam still has some symptoms but not nearly as bad as when he eats beef or chicken and the weight he gained has literally fallen off! I'm so happy I found this food for my boy! • Decent product

    By on

Due to a nationwide shortage in our veterinarian carried canned food we had to find a replacement . It is difficult to find venison products and even this doesn't contain as much as our previous food. Dogs seem to do ok on it and transitioned well.

  • NVI Venison

    By on Top 250 Contributor

Venison is a favorite of my dogs. I chose Nature's Variety Instinct and one other brand as the two I would feed. NVI always provides for a healthy addition to kibble or fed straight from the can. Quality is important to me and NV provides that along with enticing aroma and no fillers or questionable ingredients. The cans are filled with solid meat and little broth, not the sloppy mess I have found with some other brands. To me, the price of quality food is not the most important factor. My dogs enjoying their meal and looking and feeling good are my main objectives. I definitely recommend NVI Venison or any of their other meat varieties. Neither you or your dog will be disappointed.

  • Great Food

    By on

I have two dogs and no other products have been able to address all their needs in a complete and holistic way in which Nature's Variety has. The reason is because these foods were developed to meet the natural needs of canines and truly nourish their systems. The benison is by far the favorite in our household, though we do use a rotation of their products. The one and only suggestion I have is to expand the Instinct dry kibble line with a red meat like venison and/or bison and a pork formula. This food is high in protein with super high quality ingredients. I highly recommend it.

  • Great dog food!!

    By on

This food is the best!! My dogs love it and it is great for their allergies and/or skin issues. Pork liver is fine for allergies as it is not known to cause any problems that way. I'm a bit concerned as far as feeding the organ meat to my cushinoid dog. Still, pork is not the main ingredient so I would continue to give my dogs until more information on organ meats and Cushing's.

  • The Venison version seems to not have much moisture, some cans were dryer than others in the total package of 12.

    By on

But I would still recommend the Venision, My dog did not have a problem woofing it down. Just isn't as moist as some of the other can items like the rabbit, beef and lamb. I guess this is a HUMAN preference!

  • would love to order this again but it has pork....

Because I read the name as "Venison - grain free" and not the fine print, I didn't see it also included "pork". So I ordered this even though it is more expensive (I love my doggie! :). It was only afterwards that I realized that it also contains "pork" which is unhealthy for humans and pets so we won't be ordering this again :( Had I read the finer ingredients list I would have also saved $50 on the case I ordered -so for now as long as Instinct doesn't add pork to their chicken line, we will just stick to the chicken by Instinct (as it contains only chicken, no pork). • Cleans his plate

    By on

Judging by its ingredients alone, Nature’s Variety Instinct looks like an above-average wet dog food, plus my dog completely cleans his plate showing that he really likes the taste.

  • Too Dry

Unlike some of the other flavors that Nature's Variety has the Venison is too dry for a canned dog food. No gravy at all in the cans.

We have been looking for a food that had no grain or too many carbs as our dog has yeast infections.
