I spent we'll over four to five thousand dollars trying to help my pitbull out. Every vet went threw the same ole same guidelines of test. Steroid shots were the only thing that would help clear up my dog for a week or so then back to chewing and scratching himself to nothing. He would have these serious outbreaks, nothing would help they ran test on him and all. They Still couldn't tell me what he was allergic to. I started home prepping him his meals, which the main ingredient was chicken. That's when I notices how bad and worst his reaction got so I did some research and I tried every grain free dog product out there. I finally came across natures variety raw boost venison and lamb meal because there wasn't chicken or turkey in it. My dog cleared right up after a week are so. He's doing much better his coates healthy, shiny and soft to touch. Diezel is 9yrs old, I would recommend this product to any dog that may have food allergies...it helped save me the head ache I was going threw with not knowing what could help my dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MagsFood ONLY dry dog food my 2 picky dogs will eat!!! VERY nutritionally sound food!!!
I have 2 VERY picky eaters who will eat a brand of dry dog food for a short while then refuse to eat it again later.
Ever since I began feeding them Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Grain-Free dry dog food, they eat every morsel and have been for a very long time now. This is great for me as I grew tired of having to throw other dry dog food in the trash when they refused to eat it.
They first began eating Nature's Variety chicken flavor (which they love) and now eat Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Boost Grain-Free Venison & Lamb Meal Formula Dry Dog Food which they like even more!!!
Also of importance is that this food is VERY nutritionally sound with real meat in the form of freeze dried raw pieces. It's a very complete, grain-free high-protein kibble that supports my dog's digestive health. It also includes healthy Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids for their skin and coat health.
I recommend that anyone with a dog who is a picky eater get this food!!! And, you can know you're feeding them a very nutritionally sound food in the process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PiperMackie Easily digested and increased coat luster
I can't say enough good things about Nature's Variety! Recently, I adopted a seven year old Doberman who was not in good shape. Due to a months' long regimen of necessary antibiotics (advanced kidney infection and periodontal disease), his poor gut was ravaged. Diarrhea, vomiting, and the most room-clearing gas you can imagine were an every day occurrence. I dreaded drop-in visitors because one poot required hazmat-level action: open windows, neutralizer, fans. It was awful. But within a week or so of switching him off Castor and Pollux (sp?) to Nature's Variety Instinct Raw, poots be gone along with projectiles from either end! I switch him to the different protein types periodically, and I have to say the venison and lamb seems most beneficial for him. Please don't let the price steer you away. This is GREAT dog food. My other dog eats straight raw, but for Levi the rescue Dobie, Nature's Variety is where we'll stay!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Linda My young dog does well on this food
This food is high palatable and produces small stools. Would be happier if there were fewer protein sources. This has venison, turkey, salmon, lamb, and whitefish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Hbgatl Ingredient change as of May 2015
I happily used this food for 2 years without any problems. Ever since my dog has been eating her current bag of this food she has had loose stools and gas and I couldn't figure out why. I also noticed the kibble looked darker and there was significantly less freeze dried bits in the bag. I was at a small specialty dog food store today and I found out why. The company was bought about 6 months ago by a company that is actually owned by Mars. They changed the ingredients without putting a warning label on the bag. There is significantly more turkey and canola oil and they added salmon and several other more minor changes. On the companies website if you look up this product it will list the old ingredients vs the new ingredients. Just wanted to post this as an FYI. I am switching now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JamieK Great food, Allergy Relief
Our dog got some nasty allergies to his food out of nowhere. He's on meds from the vet that are no longer working. Instinct is helping to clear that up and after only two weeks his fur is soft and lush and he's no longer trying to eat himself and rip out his fur! He's always been soft, but he's REALLY soft now, it's keeping his natural coat and skin oils healthy.
The food is great, high quality, our very picky dog actually likes it, and he seem happier and satisfied on it.
The only issues I have with it are: Cost and peas.
Peas: The new formula has peas. They have a risk of causing kidney stones, bladder blockages and eventually kidney failure. Poor fiber choice. Every food has a downside, unfortunately that is a big one.
New formula also causes some gas....

Rated 3 out of 5 by Sheplo Fewer boost pellets lately?
We love Nature's Variety food for our dog (she gets the Raw Boost kibble and the frozen raw medallions). But I've noticed the Raw Boost kibble lately has included far fewer Raw Boost pellets than in previous bags. This last bag had so few that several servings had no pellets at all. I shook up the bag to see if they were just distributed unevenly but, no, there were just very few Raw Boost pellets at all. :(
